Darksiders

There were boss fights in Gears, RE4, and RE5. I've not played RE5 and haven't touched Gears in a while but the bosses in RE4 were more challenging than anything I've played in recent Zelda games.

Oh, when you said shooters I was thinking more like FPS type deals

With the IGN review, I think it's one of those reviews where the review didn't think it'd deserve more so he found reasons to give it the rating he did. And while I find IGN to pad their ratings, they sometimes do the opposite as they gave KH2 a 7.5. If you want to hear bad reviews, watch that video.
Ugh, I do remember that review.

Didn't Halo have some boss fights? i never finished the 1st or played the 2nd and barely payed attention to the 3rd.

I watched it again and it's definitely the worst review I've ever read. His complaints were that he never needed to attack with anything but X (which is not true. I remember having to use magic, drives, and the Triangle counter moves) and not having enough RPG elements (even though it had as much as the first game). He also called it linear which is complete BS.

Back to Darksiders, I'm having some second thoughts on buying it right now. GT has posted some videos so hopefully they get the review up tonight or tomorrow. If it's good, I'll pick it up. Might take advantage of GS's $20 off promo since I'm not crazy about A Boy and His Blob.

Well, Halo: Combat Evolved was kind of a breath of fresh for me because it didn't have any boss fights. But unfortunately Halo 2 and 3 had bosses here and there.

It was like that IGN US review was trying to hard to differentiate itself from the UK and AUS reviews, that came out a week or so before. I think that's really unprofessional, especially considering alot of people only watch video reviews. You shouldn't have to read 3 different reviews of the same game, from the same publication, in order to get a full picture of a game.

The more I read about this game, the more I want to play it.

Well, anyone here actually played it yet? I'm anxious to hear some first hand reviews that don't come from a magazine or game site.

I played about 4 hours of it a week ago. I really enjoyed it. It was frustrating, because it really starts to build momentum the more you play it, and it had only really just started opening up for me... I love the design of it. The best thing to do is approach it with a blank mind... don't go expecting a GOW clone, or a Zelda clone... approach it likes its its own beast (which I think it very much is). Can't wait to delve into it further.

Agreed. US IGN seemed like they wanted to go against the grain. Everyone else was giving it between 8 and 10 scores so they had to show how uneasily impressed they are.:whatever: Or something idk. Either way I'm picking this game up later today. I've been hyped since it was announced.

We know you're thinking...what IS this code?

Well, it's a special reward that we've inserted into our initial run of the product. We can't unveil the gift yet, but believe us: you're not going to want to miss it.
Check back for more details later in the month OR register HERE with the Darksiders community and we'll email you when we unveil it.
Enjoy guiding War's hand against Heaven, Hell, and those unfortunate to be caught between the two.

From Facebook. :)

Probably the scythe... I heard you have to enter a code to unlock that.

If that is it, it's pretty lame since the code is basically just a cheat code. Pause the game, go to Game Options, and enter "The Hollow Lord" (space and cap sensitive) to get it for free next time you can access the shop.

Oh thanks Spidey for telling that. That's gonna be handy incase my Gamestop doesn't have enough of the codes, tho i doubt this game is gonna sell that high on the opening day. :p I just hope i can get the comic by Ludo Lullabi and Tony Washington.

They gave it a 7.8, which is basically an 8, so that's pretty on par with what you are saying. The problem is that the reviewer seemed to be expecting something else, at least that's how I felt about it, and seemed to let that affect his view of the game. The video review came off that way, anyway, didn't actually read the full written review.

And, to be fair to the guy, the average score according to metacritic is 86, which means it's averaging around 8-8.5 scores and the actual score they gave isn't really that removed from that

GameTrailers' review is finally up. They gave it a 8.4

The video review mostly focuses on its flaws. It felt like they went out of their way to use some puns more than they usually do. They mostly knocked the story (7.9. To compare, they gave Bayonetta a 7.5. I checked what they gave God of War, a 9.0, which I find generous since the story is pretty formulaic).

Okay, I bought it today, and i'm halfway through the first big temple... So far, I think its great. I think its ridiculous that they compared it so much to games like Bayonetta or GoW, because in comparison, those are quite linear games. This feels alot beefier so far. At first, when you're doing the training type level, and all you've really done is fight, it feels kinda comparable, but it really opens up from there onwards. If anything, the combat is more like Devil May Cry.

Also, the designs are awesome, and the boss fights are epic. I haven't even fought a main temple boss or anything, just the mini bosses are huge, and awesome fights. I would basically recommend this game to anyone who like adventure games. A must have so far. Also, it really does have its own style. Sure it's borrowed ideas from other games, but it never feels like there is one main game style that dominates it. I never found myself thinking "oh man this is just god of war' or anything.

What do you think of the controls? The GameSpot review said they were cumbersome though I haven't heard that complaint from any other review.

Fine. Handles just as easily as any action game i've played. I dont know what they were complaining about

Might have been b/c, going by screenshots, you can only have 2 weapons equipped at a time. Might be kind of annoying later on when you have to switch between a bunch of items.

I played Twlight Princess on GameCube which was the same case (X and Y were weapons, Z was talking to Midna) and it was only a little annoying at a few parts of the game.

Nah, switching weapons is really easy. You can assign them, and scroll through with a tap of the D-Pad.

I am totally stuck on the puzzle with the rotating walkway. As I cant seem to find a walkthrough yet can anybody here help me out?

Which one? In the twilight cathedral temple?

Yep thats the one. I just need to know how to get past the skull mouth dripping lava.

I haven't really seen much comparison to DMC or Bayonetta. Most of the comparisons I've seen has said the combat and gameplay are similar to God Of War, and the game set up and questing aspect is similar to Zelda.
