No.
I don't cry at movies.

I have no idea when the DVD is coming out.
I work in NY, so we get the limited releases early. I saw it at the beginning of January. It was sold out too, there were a few people standing for the whole movie because they couldn't find seats together.
The theater near where I live in NJ got it during the wider release after the Oscar nominations were announced.
I'm assuming it will be out before the summer.
Really? The Wrestler sold out? Wow. Most films like that don't sell out a theatre. We had a couple of people asking about it too. But we only get films that make big money and are no brainers. Usually the big action films, horror films, and etc.
I do have a question though.
I know I said if Heath doesn't win for his performance it will be a robbery. But would it be a true injustice if Mickey didn't win as well?
It didn't NEED to be, but it probably SHOULD have been. But why did their issues need to be anything more elaborate than the fact that he just wasn't there for her?
I'm not, and was never referring to her meltdown when he doesn't show up for her dinner. That meltdown makes perfect sense, because it's been built over the course of the film. Not being there for a birthday may be "thin", but they're important to a daughter whose father never bothered to show up for one.
Maybe. But "more likely" doesn't a compelling scene or a well crafted one make. You know what I didn't see in the scene where she first blows up at her father? Any motivation. She just gets angry quickly, and turns into a raging hosebeast. You spend a lifetime being disappointed by someone, you're more likely to blow up at them when they try to come back into your life rather than let them back in and be inevitably disappointed again.
It showed how important it was that he be there for that dinner, and how unforgivable it was when he missed it.

"You weren't there for me" is a comparatively thin motivation in a film that otherwise has some depth to it.

And lastly, if Penn wins, it won't be on merit. As great as Penn was, his role didn't pack the emotional punch Rourke did. If he does get it, it's because of the affects and influence of Prop. 8 politics and Penn's favorable standings among Academy honchos and other Hollywood power players, which have as much to do with his political stances as well as his acting abilities. Plus, Penn won an Oscar already, and like Rourke, I felt it was one that was overdue and overall deserved.
Fox Home Entertainment has announced DVD ($29.98) and Blu-ray ($39.99) releases of The Wrestler which stars Mickey Rourke.
