Stand-Alone Movies David Benioff and D.B. Weiss to Write and Produce New Series of Star Wars Films

Who cares? It's widely regarded as vulgar and inappropriate. Star Wars is a freaking children's brand.

If they were responsible for a wide variety of TV/movies and Game of Thrones was one of them it would be a different matter, but GOT is the only known thing on their resume. These are NOT people that should be working on Star Wars.

Your objections to the pair make zero sense. Did you similarly freak out about Gwendoline Christie being in a Star Wars movie? Do you get upset that Harrison Ford is both Han Solo and Indiana Jones?

Just because these guys are currently in charge of a TV that is violent and profane does not mean that their Star Wars movies will be the same.

I think that Kathleen Kennedy is quite aware of the of who the Star Wars audience is.

Isn't this the show with nudity, sex, themes of incest, strong language, and extreme gory violence (according to IMDB even against children)? If there's an audience for this kind of thing fine (I suppose there's an audience for everything these days), but why in the heck would Lucasfilm hire these people to make a Star Wars movie?

Outside of Game of Thrones they only have a couple other credits on IMBD (I did check before I ranted). As far as I can tell, none of those other things are really popular/mainstream, meaning they were most likely hired because of their GOT work.

oh yeah X-Men isn't mainstream at all :o

Game of Thrones is the greatest show on TV, so im super super pumped for this.

What has the violence, rape, profanity, etc. of Game of Thrones got to do with whether they can write a Star Wars movie?

Obviously their Star Wars movies will have incest, rape, etc.

As to being hired solely on the merit of Game of Thrones, that is very likely and there is reason for that - GoT is an absolutely massive undertaking and an incredible success. The content of the story is irrelevant.

Also, TLJ has profanity. Are you freaking out about that?

First off, those are actors, not storytellers. I have seen people object to actors that star in vulgar shows appearing in family entertainment (I suppose that's a different discussion), but I don't have a huge problem with that. These people literally created this show.

I agree that their Star Wars movies might not be vulgar and profane. I doubt Disney/Lucasfilm would even allow an R-rated Star Wars series (at least this soon). But if that's the case, than why even hire these people? There are plenty of talented storytellers out there (both experienced and rising) that wold be far more qualified to work in this franchise.

I seriously doubt that. What one needs to probably get ready for is Star Wars every May and December. Which I am game for.

Anthology, May

Alternating Trilogy, December

I do not want this. Any more than one a year almost guarantees oversaturation. Even one a year is pushing it.

When I first saw the headline I thought they going to be running a live action TV show.

I have always been wary of a live action show because there is no way it could look epic enough but Game of Thrones and The Expanse prove that Star Wars could work on TV.

Can it be Old Republic? Wonder if they'll bring Miguel Sapochnik to direct one of these movies...

A couple minor to moderate bad words are not comparable to the content in Game of Thrones.

How do you know what words are used in Got?

I thought all you information was third party?

And the word "bastard" is highly offensive so it is neither "minor" or "moderate".

Thinking about this, this makes the most sense. But then I wonder what Rian is going to be up to.

Wow, Disney sure is steaming ahead with this franchise! I've never seen an episode of GoT though so I don't have anything else to say about this.

Ugh. Well, these will be the first SW movies I have no intention of seeing. They've been running GoT into the ground the last few years, and I have absolutely no faith in their writing abilities.

I have to wonder what Kennedy & Disney were thinking when they hired these two.

When I first saw the news for a split second I thought it was April 1st.

Everytime a new movie is announced people always cry "Kenobi", "Fett" or "The Old Republic".:oldrazz:

I want Game of Ewoks :ilv:

They were thinking good things.

It will be your loss if you are going to be closed minded about it.

I mean I actually wouldn't be opposed to some Rated-R SW spinoffs under the right circumstances. I'm just not convinced that these guys are the right people to do that.

They tend to not be that great when they don't have other people's work to crib from, and they struggle with subtlety and nuance.

I had just made the resolution to stay off the forum until after Solo.

I should have known there wold be an announcement:whatever:

I am leaning toward alternating between this and Rian's trilogy. I love Star Wars, but I hope they don't ramp up production ala Marvel.

I am not thrilled with this choice. However, one thing I will give them, they do know how to please fans. Last season of GOT was all about giving the fans what they wanted.

Star Wars doesn't need to be R-rated and never will be.

I can force some becoming quite confused by alternating movies from separate series.

Might make more sense if they plan to release Johnson's trilogy first - shoot it back to back.

The Old Republic of the games never really appealed to me. The designs of weapons, ships, armour was just the same as the "modern" stuff, but if an Old Republic movie that made it look truly ancient would be great.

I'd prefer Johnson's trilogy and this new series to be set post-IX though and properly world build the GFFA after the ST.

IMDB gives a list of words used in that show. Just google "Game of Thrones Parents Guide". They use the worst ones.

And for the record, I didn't like TLJ's language. A couple instances like Poe's "big a** door" line felt very unnatural and kind of took me out of the movie. It felt like Rian Johnson was trying to push it.

Even then, TLJ's language still isn't nearly as bad as the stuff that's in GOT.

Kennedy and Lucasfilm is so great at finding up and coming and established female talent to write and direct.

...
