So calling a director you don't like a "hack" is what's dividing SW, but basically telling someone to shut up because the RT score is high, isn't?
Haha. So calling out a statement as hyperbolic is the same as telling them to shut up? I challenged the statement. Like his work or not, Johnson has more critical hits than misses. Him being a talentless hack is not a consensus opinion by any stretch, so to go there just feels like a reach. I'm not really a fan of Zack Snyder, but that doesn't mean I'd call him a hack. That's a cheap move. You can recognize that someone has talent and not enjoy their work at the same time. Is that too nuanced of a take for 2019? Oh well.
Have you read some of the reviews? They’re pretty much praising the film because of its anti-Trump message and current political state we are in
I hate Trump. I think the man is a gigantic POS and should be out of office but this anti-Trump stance is already getting played up in Hollywood
Plus, Knives Out looks to be a ripoff of clue
So yes, I still think Rian Johnson is a hack
I don't know...to be honest I have yet to see a film that really captures the bitter divisiveness of the Trump era. I don't like being preached at when I'm at the movies, but Knives Out doesn't like look like that type of movie. It looks fun and satirical. And it's also roasting rich liberals according to Johnson himself, not just MAGAhats. In any event, I'm curious how the movie performs at the box office.
Again, you can not like his films. You can find his movies to be bad (I happen to have some issues with all of them...and yet I still like them, besides Brothers Bloom which I haven't seen). But generally speaking, "hacks" don't attract one of the best ensemble casts of a given year for their quirky little murder mystery film. Which btw, a murder mystery =/= Clue ripoff. It's just in the same niche genre.
Anyhow...again, I'm fine if Rian never touches SW again. For his sake, I think he'd be better off just leaving well enough alone. But LFL still has a bigger issue to address, and that is who is going to have the vision for and want to take on the responsibility for leading the future of Star Wars storytelling? Simply cowering to angry fans and trying not to upset anyone ultimately doesn't really get you where you need to go. We've seen what happened when DC tried to be reactionary and address fan complaints. They need to move forward with confidence and a willingness to take chances.
