David Finch: "No More Ultimate Comics."

I wouldn't be surprised if the Ultimate Universe continued but in a much smaller capacity. I could see them doing something like they did with Supreme Power and Newuniversal. One main title and occasional related miniseries.

I just can't believe they'd completely end the whole thing.

It's not happening. Bendis says he's already written issues Post-Ultimatum.

That's the way I'm seeing it now. Marvel has probably realised that the Ultimate line for the most part has run its course, but since it still sells decently, you can't just up and get rid of it.

Ultimate Spider-Man is obviously not going to get canceled since it's the best selling Ultimate ongoing and it's written by Bendis. But I can see Ultimate Fantastic Four and Ultimate X-Men get the Ultimates and Ultimate Iron Man treatment in which they'll get the occasional miniseries.

. Now, there's just as much confusing continuity trying to follow an Ultimate storyline as the real universe.

Nonsense.

Heck I'm reasonably sure there is still less ultimate comics as a whole universe than either the spidey or X 616 lines themselves.

It's a shame, the first six books of ultimate fantastic four and the ultimates 1 and 2 are some of my most favourite reads, not to mention when ultimate spidey was younger, it did put together some pretty decent arcs, ultimate ock was always magnificent and norman wasn't bad either but alot of other characters got sidelined and became gimmicks.

not sure i can carry on with the rest.

That's not what he said, at all. The amount of issues is irrelevant. Continuity in the Ultimate universe is just as hard to follow than in the 616 right now. Why do you think they have these Ultimate events all the time, to try to streamline the line.

This is the first one.

Gah Lak Tus or however you spell it was the first. Then there was Supreme Power. That's at least two off the top of my head.

:doom: :doom: :doom:

Don't forget Ultimate War and that crappy ultimate sinister six thing they did.

It's not happening. Bendis says he's already written issues Post-Ultimatum.

Then it would be like the MC2 Universe, seen entirely through Spider-girl and various minis.

No, it isn't.

Seriously, does Blader ever enter a thread and not get rocked?

Okay, but those were hardly streamlining events. Especially Ultimate Power, which I still don't know what the **** was about.

The writing's been on the wall for some time now. Ultimate served it's purpose. 616 has been far more exciting in recent years, imho.

Oh, wait a minute; i didnt notice the article was from Rich Johnson. A lot of his stuff is "National Enquirer-esque" bullcrap, so im taking this with a grain of salt.

I'm hoping that the Ultimate line is just getting re-vamped. The Ultimate universe is super awesome; I'd be really sad if it got cancelled completely.

Ding-dong. Here's hoping they use the newfound space to add some more quality titles to the 616 line.

Even if they did, the titles would probably sell somewhere around #80 on the monthly top 100, and get canned.

[/bitter]

Depends on expectations, the creative teams, and the trade sales. Some titles survive around that area for a long time. I think it has to drop out of the top 100 entirely to just be canceled outright if it's not expected to be a best-selling title.

You're correct it's not what he said. Poor post from myself really.

The amount of issues isn't really irrelevant though given that by it's very nature continuity increases with each issue so it's still a fair indicator.

Regardless the ultimate universe still seems less continuity reliant than 616 still. The big event is mired in continuity, heck the avengers titles are currently explaining past scenes from comics! Whereas you can pick up any ultimate issue and for the most part you have only to deal with the current arc.

Why do you think they have these Ultimate events all the time, to try to streamline the line.

The line hasn't been streamlined yet though. Still 3 core titles and event books. This would be the first time that this was done, not something that happens all the time.

Isn't Ultimate Origins pretty steeped in Ultimate continuity?
From what i understand yes. It will supposedly show how everything is truly connected in that universe. Basically following up on when Bruce Banner stated this to Spider-man

Isn't Ultimate Origins pretty steeped in Ultimate continuity?

Not really no. It doesn't really rely on knowing on specific continuity as it's set in the early days before the universe 'started' (at least thus far).

It's an odd project actually considering noone really cares anymore.

Isn't it basically the same deal as Secret Invasion, then? Secret Invasion is, at its core, just an alien invasion story. Bendis is going continuity-crazy in New Avengers and Mighty Avengers, but you don't really need to know any of that to enjoy Secret Invasion. The plot is actually pretty simple and continuity-free: shapeshifting religious zealots from another planet infiltrate and attack Earth while Earth's heroes are wrapped up in their own problems. Does it enrich the story to know that Earth has had previous dealings with the Skrulls, that various characters were replaced at very specific times, that the Skrulls may or may not have had a role to play in various other things? Sure. But it's not necessary to enjoy the story.
