Well,if I had to say it. The Ultimate Universe was made up of large hits or misses. It wasn't a true "re imagination of the classic Marvel characters." What do people think about the Ultimate line? Are you a die hard reader? Or the person who only bothers to read Ultimates and Ultimate Spider-Man?

There's no thread that talks about the Ultimate Universe as a whole. Feel free to talk about anything Ultimate related. From Ultimate characters you wish were done a bit differently,to the possible end of the Universe. Was it a success..or just a big flop?

One last thing..why is it called "Ultimate" anyway?

Fact: The Ultimates are better than the Avengers.

Ultimates was/is a good idea. I am happy with it. I wish it was more different though. I don't want Gwen Stacey to die in a different way, I want her to not die. Wolverine as Cable is different and interesting I guess, but Ultimate X-men is where great writers go to die... so I stay away from that book.

I wish Ultimates wasn't so much a re-imagining as it was just new and different. Can we marry off Ultimate Spider-man?

The only thing in the Ultimate universe that I liked were Daredevil and Elektra. Everything else sucked. Hard.

If you live in the full-of-s**t universe maybe.

No. I live in the universe where I like my comics more realistic than cartoony. For analogy's sake, I'm more a fan of Batman Begins than Batman & Robin.

But hey, if you like your Hawkeye running around in a purple leotard with a giant ****ing H on his forehead, that's your prerogative.

Compared to regular Marvel right now, Ultimate is light years better IMO. However, its kinda been on a downward slope as of late.

I'm going out on a limb here and say you have a slight case of selective amnesia.

Obviously we've never met. Hi, I'm Blader5489, and I hate Jeph Loeb's work in the Ultimate universe (most especially Ultimates 3) more than anything else.

The Ultimate Line is the whole reason why the current 616 marvel is soo freakin good right now. Ultimate marvel showed a more realistic, modern take on all the marvel characters, and the readers absolutely loved it. After seeing the success of the Utlimate line, Quesada figured " Hey if the Ultimate line is this good, then there is no excuse for the regular marvel universe to not be even better." So, then the 616 marvel universe took a page from the Ultimate line and gave all its characters a very modern, realistic facelift. Spiderman, daredevil, captain america, ironman, ironfist, luke cage, spiderwoman, ms marvel, the x-men, all were revamped to be more "Ultimate-like". Even the fantastic four is now receiving an "Ultimate" treatment with millar and hitch on board. And now, the marvel universe is more interesting and exciting than its ever been.

So i think the Ultimate line was a god-send. It was awesome when it first debuted, and had some great runs: bendis and finch's ultimate x-men arc, millar and hitch's Ultimates, millar and Land's ultimate fantastic four arc and of course Ultimate Spidey. But i think now that the 616 is using the "Ultimate" appraoch, there really is no need for an ultimate universe anymore. Thats my opinion.

I think there's a certain degree of truth to the claim that the Ultimate line is a testbed for ideas that end up being implemented in the Marvel Universe.

I don't mind me some Ultimate Marvel, that's for sure. With Immonen on Ult.Spidey, you can't go wrong. It's all about: the early Ult.X-Men, Ultimates V1, Ult.Human and Ult.Spidey

Not really interested in the new Ult.X-Men, as much as I love Kirkman...he should stick to his own creations.

Three portions of the Ultimate universe that I unequivocally enjoyed were Ultimate Elektra/Daredevil, Ellis' Ultimate Fantastic Four, and finally the early Ultimate Spider-Man -- about the first two years or so -- before it started to mire in its own ineptitude. Everything else is either incredibly ambivalent to me or just outright horrible.

Ultimate X-Men did absolutely nothing to "modernize" the X-Men and to make them accessible or whatever that Grant Morrison wasn't already doing and doing better, and without unlikeable smartass teenagers acting like unlikeable smartasses. Not a single thing about it for the last four years or so -- yes, including BKV -- has interested me even a little.

Everything I liked about the Ultimates -- and yes, I did like parts of it -- was pretty much countered by a truckload of things that I hated about it. If by "realistic" you actually mean "unsympathetic, gullible, unheroic a$$holes," then yeah I agree they're definitely very realistic.

Ultimate War was pure sht. Ultimate Nightmare/Extinction/Whatever was unimaginably boring and anti-climatic.

I don't think the Ultimate universe is really that much worse (or better) than the 616, but I do think that its flaws are much more readily apparent, sometimes even displayed right out in the open for everyone to see. I can't think of a single reason why it should still exist.

As a concept its a great idea. But it needs to stay very seperate from 616 - there is way too much blurring of the lines now.

I've always liked the ultimate universe, but I've lately read Ultimates 3 and it's like a really insane parody of it, showing off all the problems with the line. Guest appearances without reason, incredibly ******* characters (Hey, Hawkeye, didn't you used to have kids and a wife? Harr harr harr! - WTF?) reliance on shock storytelling, mistakes, messing up other comic continuities (Magneto AND Mistique both show up... Then who's sitting in a jailcell?). Too bad I love MAD's drawings, even though they're not very Ultimate-realistic. I have the feeling that this run will be retconned somehow, it just doesn't fit anywhere.
I loved the Ultimate X-men while they've had Millar on it, it had a real blockbuster feel - it was what the Xmen movies should've been. UFF is great fun and USM can be really amusing, despite it's flaws.
But since the 616 getting better by the minute I don't think there'll be a need for the Ultimate line much longer. As of now I could do only with UFF and USM.

False.

False, and ******ed.

Horrible analogy.

And yes, I do. They're ****ing superhero comics, people wear underwear on the outside of their pants, get over it.

Yes, a picture of Captain *******, ****ty Wasp, Incest Twins, Perverted Homicidal Hulk and Drunk Ass Iron Man is the perfect rebuttal to my statement. You win at the internet.

I thought superheroes were selfless people who risked their lives to save others. Isnt that what the Ultimates did?? And they did it well too.

They're not selfless though. Tony Stark isn't selfless, not by a longshot, the Incest Twins are trying to better their names, they're in it for themselves, and the others do it for the paycheck and because they have mental disorders and in the case of Cap, he doesn't know how to do anything else but be a giant prick and snap people's necks. Thor is really the only selfless one there.

Eh, i guess you got me there...but come on, you havta admit that there were some truly kick ass moments in the Ultimates series.
