Mystery/Thriller David Fincher's Mindhunter (Netflix)

Just finished episode 5 and Damon Herriman was great. You can go the Kemper route and have an actor do a great performance, but the makeup team does awesome work with helping sell it for Manson.

Fincher's direction is still amazing. That whole interview scene in the truck where you don't see the interviewee's face? So foreboding. He can make a scene like that something special.

None of the writers from Season 1 returned. Fincher took control during the first season and made his 1st AD Courtenay Miles the lead writer for Season 2. Mindhunter is her first writing credit. That's wild.

I had no idea. That is mind-boggling. I've still got a couple eps left but if it sticks the landing I honestly feel like this season is even better than S1. To have such a major creative upheaval and show no signs of awkward quality shift is a damn miracle.

I agree that the quality is consistent if not better than season one and I'm on episode four ow. :) This is still a top show for me. No small part of it is I read a ton of true crime and I'm familiar with most of these serial killers.

Great quality overall, but a bit weaker than the first season. I think it dragged in the second half. Still, it's the best crime thriller/drama since True Detective Season 1.

I feel Carr was useless, just like in the first season. And that lesbian drama subplot was crap. Almost like she wasn't in the show till some Netflix producer demanded to write in a stronk female with generic gay love subplot. Down to a foamy bath with candles and a glass of wine...

Killers were amazing, especially Manson guy. Frankly, Tench's subplot was the most interesting element this season. In the light of serial killers analysis, really makes it creepy.

I particularly liked southern Jeremy Irons in episode 3.
When I first read this I thought you meant Irons was actually in this and then when that episode was on I wondered where he was. :p I'm a little tired.

Damn I'm only one episode in, but holy crap is this show still enthralling. That opening scene is some of the creepiest **** I've seen a while. I think the song choice really helped though.

Just finished the season. Netflix better not put this one on the chopping block like they seem to be doing with everything lately. I need a S3, dammit! :argh:

This is their best show, imo. Loved that they brought back the Jim Barney character in a bigger role this season. He's great.

Netflix really needs to take shorter breaks here. I have absolutely no recollection what happened in season 1 and no time to rewatch it so I think I'll just jump in season 2 but wow, this is a ridiculous amount of time between seasons

I was happily surprised they held themselves to nine episodes. Seems like they told the story without padding it.

Individual mileage may vary, of course.

Holt McCallany was an absolute stand-out for me this season.

Finished season 2 and it's great. I need a renewal ASAP.

This season's opening and ending scenes creep me out more than most horror movies. Fincher did the same thing in Zodiac. It helps that this stuff really happened which adds to the creep factor.

If there was anything to criticize, it'd be the makeup. It makes everyone yellow. Anna Torv looked extremely yellow in some scenes, almost like she had jaundice. I don't remember this being a problem in the first season so hopefully they fix it in the next one.

Agree on Anna Torv. Also thought Berkowitz's makeup was strange.

On a whole, I really liked this season, but did enjoy season one better. In fact, if not for the Tench subplot, I would say there's a decent drop for me from S1 to S2.

I thought Anna Torv was totally wasted on the back end of the season.
where was she through the last two episodes??

As far as BTK, I wonder how they'll deal with his long "break" from killing. Obviously he will keep himself "busy" but I wonder if that character will still be part of the prologue/epilogue of episodes in S3.

By the way, when Tench
puts together that the wrists of two different crime scenes have the same knot, is that BTK or another teaser for someone else down the line?

Well this was just ****ing excellent. This topped season one and I think one if the reasons was because it was tighter. Three episodes in and I already felt like I watched a whole story's worth. This really is the best thing on Netflix. I can't wait to see where it goes. And the two absolute finds were the actors who played Camille and Gunn. What gets. Bravo to Fincher.

I'm curious about BTK. Will this show go up to present day or will they never catch him, this thing that is happening that undercuts everything, that they will never see resolved during their tenure?

They could've done a better job with the wine as it was just clearly water everytime :D.

I still got one more episode to go, but I'm loving it so far. There are some aspects that felt weaker than season 1, but this season hit a lot of highs. The Manson episode in particular was fantastic and it's totally Bill's season.

I think my only ding is that Ford's panic attacks never come into play after episode one when it comes off like set up to come back again. It would have been great to see him lose it in Atlanta.

You would think so after he met Kemper again in episode 5, but he looked fine.

Ford specifically made a point about admiring BTK's ability to "overcome his panic" to continue with his killings despite things not going to plan on multiple occasions, so maybe this is meant to be another parallel where Ford becomes a little more like his favorite subjects.

I don’t know. Tench and Karr’s subplots really slowed things down for me. I still enjoyed it, but I think I like season 1 better.
