David Goyer hired to write Man of Steel

Interesting news.

He's a terrible director so hopefully WB isn't dumb enough to give him that job.

The comicbook movies he writes (not Blade 3) seem to be fairly well structured. Thats his strong suit. But for the love of all that is holy, I pray somebody cleans up that bad dialogue he is inevitably going to pen.

Variety confirms
David Goyer will help Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures get Superman off the ground again.

The writer-director-producer has been tapped to pen the next bigscreen adventure of the Man of Steel, the working title of the next pic.

"Superman Returns'" Brandon Routh and Bryan Singer are not expected to return.

Warner Bros. is under a timeline to get another film in production by 2011 or risk having to pay the heirs of Superman-creator Jerome Siegel millions for the studio's exploitation of the character over the years. The Siegel heirs and the heirs of co-creator Joe Shuster will own the entire Superman copyright in 2013.

Goyer pitched a more action-packed idea that involves Superman battling arch nemesis Lex Luthor and super villain Brainiac.

LatinoReview broke the news on its website Wednesday.

Goyer is well-known to fanboys for having helped revitalize Warner Bros.' Batman franchise, co-writing "Batman Begins" and helping with the story of "The Dark Knight." He also wrote and produced the "Blade" franchise, based on Marvel's comicbooks, at New Line, and exec-produced "Ghost Rider" at Sony. He recently co-created "FlashForward" for ABC.

Well, I love Byrne's run on Superman, so this news may be a good thing.

Me too! So the Byrne interpretation sounds good.

But . . . Byrne made him Clark first and Superman second (which I like) and got rid of a lot of the Kryptonian stuff (Clark thought of himself as being human since he was raised from birth (the ship was his birthing chamber and he came out of it on Earth when he landed, so he was born on Earth)), so the big Kryptonian mythology seems to go against the Byrne interpretation on that point.

I could do without a lot of Kryptonian mythology, there's enough of that on Smallville.

^Indeed. Please leave out the bad one liners Goyer.

Well this is very interesting developments. Cant wait to see what turns out with this. Now the nolan rumor from the other week could probably become official soon. I do hope goyer will write a good script. Also i really hope we do have some origin stuff. Since hopefully this will be restarting superman we should have some origin told. Cant wait for more news.

This is really all around fantastic news. I love where they're going with it, and goyer is a man that I trust more than your average writer to deliver an entertaining comic book movie.

If he can do as well as he did with batman begins, then we're in for an amazing experience.

i think goyer is good structure and pacing, but yeah, his dialog can be dry.

So what in the heck is Tull saying is inaccurate about the report on Latino Review???

In regards to the origin, don't forget, I don't think they can do one at this juncture unless they settled behind the scenes already.

ah....yes.....I forgot about that issue........:cmad:

Whether or not they do an origin....they MUST connect the characters with the audience ( and origins are generally a good way to do that ).

While Supes, Lois, Lex, and co are popular and well-known characters, they can't make the mistake of SR and expect everyone to know these characters and their relationships with each other.

We need to know who Clark/Superman is and why he's the type of man he his. What's his relationship with Lois...why does he love. Why does Lex hate Superman so much......etc.

The story doesn't have to be perfectly linear....but we do need to care about the characters on screen. Otherwise, they will come across as flat and 2 dimentional.......a problem many of us had with SR.....

YES.

AICN is foolish. It is 100% legit.

Is that sooooooooo, Showtime?

another source?

Im just thinking Tull of Legendary Pictures didn't know how to react to the leaked news, thus used the tried and true method of denial

Goyer is a comics concious writer. He knows his stuff. His script will deliver a Superman loyal to the comics. He is a safe bet. People should be happy about this.

Also, I think Millaar talks too much bs and thinks too highly of himself. Glad he didnt get the nod.

The same actors looked at for Cap are gonna be looked at for Superman most likely. I've heard that too.

I really hope not.
None of the Cap hopefuls seem at all "Superman" to me.

But back on topic.
Great news!
Looks like big blue is gonna fly again!

They always have the most inaccurate stuff on their website not to mention all the hate spewing that goes on there. I stopped reading their website a couple of year ago.

Are they mad because they didn't break the news?

Especially now with Variety confirming it lol. :word:

We know who the info came from, it's legit. What is Tull going to say, "Yeah we are hiring Goyer, thanks for calling." AICN and Hit Fix are both lost in space on this one.

I am curious as to how Jamie knows it will be an unknown.

AICN do my head in, I'm not saying they're never right but they always think they are.
