Showtime.
From the way things are devloping now , are we looking at a summer 2013 release date ?
I know there someone here had said that WB will lose the rights in oct 2013 making a summer 2013 release very likely. Potter ends in july 2011 , sherlock holmes 2 will be released in dec 2011 , perhaps Batman in JUly 2012 ( i'm still iffy on Bats and Spidey duking in out in July 2012) and maybe he first hobbit movie in dec 2012. Right now , aside from a potential dec 2013 date for the 2nd hobbit movie , most of 2013 hasn't been filled yet.

Plus it gives WB and Nolan enough time to approve the script , select cast and director. Nolan will oversee the project and assuming that they may go for Batman in 2012 , it would also give Nolan time for him and the director to tackle the post. prod. on supes for a summer 2013 release.

WB's not going to let Superman duke it out with Batman 3.

As matrix just posted, it looks like the DC line up will go like this:

Green Lantern 2011
Batman 3 July 2012
Man of Steel 2013.

It makes the most sense. Now, technically WB could do Batman and Man of Steel in the same summer. Nolan's only going to executive produce the film. He could technically oversee Batman 3 and Man of Steel.

But, given the economics, I think WB would want to spread out these three films over three summers, especially since they lose Potter after July 2011.

Makes sense.

Goyer will probably write a first draft, like he did for Batman Begins, and Nolan or probably his brother Jonah will work on it too.

This seems to confirm that Nolan is overlooking the project, but denies a previous rumor that WB already had a script they were happy with.

For those skeptical about Nolan´s involvement, it´s said up front, this is intended to be a FUN take, not dark and gritty, they understand the difference between Batman and Superman.

And I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE that it´s not an origin story, thank the good Lord, even though it´s intended to set up a Kryptonian mythology - will they take that from parts of the JJ Abrams script, maybe?

Hey i totally forgot about that LOL
It does fit WB initial superhero plan to have a DC movie released every year. Then Wonder Woman and Superman Returns happened
If i remember correctly i would've gone like this

2005 BB
2006 SR
2007 Wonder Woman
2008 TDK
2009 MOS
2010 WW 2 / Green Lantern

It's no secret that one of the main reasons why WB is moving forward with their comic book flicks is because Potter will end in 2011. They have the hobbit movies although it's still a question of when the crap at MGM will be settled.
WB is a studio that relies heavily on franchises to bring in the $$$. However i still believe that they are always counting on at least on of their summer movies to truly be the biggest grossing flick in order to potentially compensate eventual losses from bombs or underperformers.

Look at Potter. WB felt the effects in summer of 2006 when SR & Poseidon bombed. 2008 had TDK and Potter 6 coming out yet when TDK made a billion , WB wisely moved Potter 6 to 2009 because 'they didn't have a sure fire blockbuster. 2009 had some pretty risky movies that underperformed at the BO like Watchmen & Terminator Salvation yet with Hangover , Sherlock Holmes and of course Potter they still had a excellent year.

The question still remains if WB would allow to have both Man Of Steel and Batman 3 in the same year. Definately not in the same summer but if Hobbit is delayed again i could see MOS released in summer of 2013 and Batman 3 in december of 2013.

maybe he is already working on the script. maybe he will do WB's script.

The five things I love about Byrne's Superman that I think should be included in the movie.

1) Superman being the sole survivor of Krypton.
2) Corrupt businessman Lex Luthor.
3) Clark as a real man and not a bumbling idiot.
4) Both the Kents are still alive.
5) Superman's toned down power level.

Another thing I love is finally there´s Brainiac there. Enough with the villains being always Luthor or Kryptonians with Superman´s powers.

matrix,

I just don't see WB doing both Man of Steel and Batman 3 in the same year UNLESS the situation with the rights to Superman were that big of a deal that they would position Man of Steel as a December 2012 release, which at this stage COULD happen.

But with Marvel's line up and the fact that WB loses Potter in Summer 2011, it just makes sense to spread these films out.

Now, a Wonder Woman greenlit project or other DC projects(Veritgo) could change the line up.

Still, if you REALLY look at WB's output of DC projects, it's been more varied and more interesting than Marvel's.

Constantine 2004
V for Vendetta 2005
300 2006
Watchmen 2009

In between those, you had Batman Begins, Superman Returns, and the Dark Knight.

WB will continue to mix it up a bit between larger properties and smaller ones under the DC flag.

Or maybe this is the one they're happy with and it's already written...

I do get what you are saying.
And yes i does make sense if WB spreads out the movies. Yet at the same time i wonder IF WB will take the risk of solely having MOS as their biggest movie to bank on that year. Hence why i used Potter's example of it's massive BO succes to compensante for eventual losses and also my post of potentially having the 3rd batman movie released in the same year should ..godforbid...MOS not make enough $$$
Remember that it was only after TDK's success that WB decided to move Potter away to 2009.

From the way things are going now , i think that the stuff at MGM will be cleared in order for WB to have Hobbit prt 1 ready in december of 2012 and rt 2 in Dec 2013. Considering that all LOTR movies made more then 800 million WW ( ROTK went over a billion) , coupled with audience awareness and maybe a 3-d release , i think it's safe to say that both Hobbit movies will be huge . If that is the case then WB could have supes competiting in summer of 2013 without having to worry about potential compensation of losses.

But you know..asuming the news is true of WB making MOS more action packed with supes duking it out with Lex and Braniac , i think it's safe to say that the movie will make millions. With WB already having the last potter movies converted to 3d as well COTT , GUardians of Ga Hoole and maybe Green Lantern ( fingers crossed) , i do think that WB is serious about 3-d and most likely will release MOS as a 3d movie. Ideally if they are going for a summer 2013 that also gives them enough time to make shoot the movie in 3d as well as creating CG shots in stereoscopic 3d. It is time consuming but the 3 year window should be enough.

Nolan bros + Goyer

An established Superman to me says one that's been around for a while, has already faced certain villains, and will prolly have a history with Lex. I think Supes age will be, going by that article, early to mid 30's.....If so, then Michael Trucco's name is sounding good again, even if he is pushing 40.

Noooooooooooooooo
No Goyer, no, no, no. I think this is a very very very bad idea. There is others ways to deal with Superman. Kevin Smith, G.Johns, Mark Millar, Grant Morrisson.
Please not Goyer. :(

Something interesting about Hamm is that he was in a Funny or Die sketch as Lex Luthor back in 2009.

And now recently (20 hours ago) MTV asked him about fan's petitions and cries for him to star in a superhero movie.

He actually mentions Superman and with his comment's we can almost count him out of the movie.

""Well, it's interesting. I'm a huge comic book fan, first of all," Hamm told MTV News. "I've collected them, I've read them since I was a kid. I am a big fan of the classic comics and also the darker ones that have sort of predominated in the last 10-15 years."

"I don't know," he said when asked if he'd consider a role in a comic book movie. "It's a tricky road to go down with some of those heroes, because they're not flawed. Superman is Superman — he's invincible, so where's the drama?"

Constantine 2004
V for Vendetta 2005
300 2006
Watchmen 2009
You're a year out on the first three there. Constantine was released in 2005, V for Vendetta in 2006, and 300 (which was based on a Dark Horse comic book by the way, not a DC one) in 2007. IMDB has V for Vendetta and 300 listed as 2005 and 2006 because they were screened at the Austin Butt-Numb-A-Thon in those years, but they were actually only released nationwide in 2006 and 2007 respectively.

Next bit of news i'm looking forward to is rumored directors.
after that, a list of actors up for Luthor and Brainiac. You just know both of those roles will be WELL known actors. As for Supes, I fully expect it to be a relative unknown.

I somehow suspect this is going to be Jonathan Nolan's directorial debut...:o

Is this a joke?

Kevin Smith is a big fat fanboy and the rest are comicbook writers, not professional film script writers.

Goyer is way better. Morrison as a consultant is okay, just not as the script writer.

At least there's something in the works at long last. There are better choices. But there are definitely worse ones. Goyer is the safe choice, which may be what the franchise needs at this point, and at least the movie will be infused with comic lore. I'll get excited when I learn more about the project. Telling me it has no origin and Braniac and Luthor are involved tells me only that Goyer, so far, has the same ideas Kevin Smith and Tim Burton and...oh...everyone since then has had.

I do think that pretending that having Nolan mentor him will make Goyer deliver a good or great script is a little silly. I'm still not sold on Jonah Nolan, and find him kind of hit or miss, even after TDK. We'll see.

Seems in order to get this off the ground, they're skipping right over SUPERMAN BEGINS and going straight to THE DARK MAN OF STEEL. Interesting. Maybe we'll get some pseudo origin stuff in there somewhere.
