Me too. It would be awesome to see Superman punch Brainiac through some buildings.
No doubt. And not only that, but I've always seen the villain in the next film as a planet wide threat..especially if it were Brainiac or Darkseid.
If he/it were trying to destroy/take over, I doubt he would limit himself to just Metropolis. I wouldnt be surprised if the film has things happening all over the earth.

Did show ever give his update?

And that also would help expand Superman's "universe" by either cameos from other heroes or mentions of cities where other heroes have their "base of operations".

Thanks for the heads up. Didn't know we were getting an update. Im still catching up.

Breakfast and some DC/WB (possibly Superman related) news.

What a morning. :woot:

Oh for sure..Not saying this is what they have in mind, but *IF* they ever wanna have a JL film, this would be the perfect setup for it.
I wouldnt want it too cluttered up with cameo's, but something like maybe Bruce Wayne sitting in the batcave watching the battle between brainiac and superman on his computer monitors would give me a heart attack.

I would go nuts too if something like that gets featured.

A Bruce Wayne cameo in this would be incredible.

It wouldn't exactly be outside the realm of possibilities. Warners originally wanted a Supes cameo in GL similar to Ironman/Hulk.

That would be spectacular.

Maybe that could further lead in to Bruce's arc of wanting to retire as Batman but not doing so after some altercation involving Superman or something like that.

I'm still an advocate of the JL film if its properly handled. If the Nolans and Goyer have come up with a way to do so in a similar fashion Marvel is setting up the Avengers with IM, Thor, and Captain America.

I wonder where that would leave Green Lantern... :(

After Brainiac, and the inevitable Lex stories, i'd like to see Mongul and Darkseid. Darkseid would fit a JL movie more to be honest.
Anyway, i've only read a few stories with Mongul and all of them involve Warworld (the games there are his schtick so...) except Moore's "For the man who has everything". But i doubt that we and the general audience would enjoy a gladiator movie with Superman fighting alien monsters. So i thought of a way to bring Mongul to Earth:

1) Superman returns from a 2 month absence in space. We dont know where he was.
2) While life goes on, various aliens attack Metropolis and he beats them till they flee or teleport away (What? They cant put them in a jail. Or would you have Supes kill them?)
3) By interrogating one of them he discovers that Mongul was sending them and was broadcasting the fights in Warworld.
4) We learn that during those 2 months that Supes was gone in space, he was actually kidnapped and forced to fight in Warworld. He escaped and freed many gladiators. While he was there he won the crouds so Mongul decided to get him to fight without him knowing it and hitting him where it hurts: Metropolis.
5) All this time Lex believes that Superman is staging these fights as propaganda so that he can rule the world, so he prepares weapons, rockets, armours, and Metallo which we'll see used in the sequel.
6) Final showdown with Mongul in Metropolis or Warworld: "If i win, you GTFO. If i lose, i'll forever fight in Warworld". Mongul loses but doesnt die.

Its a very simple and basic outline which could be enriched and infused with a deep theme and character development.

Cameos? In my DC movies? What blasphemy is this? :awesome:

If only... It would be freaking amazing!

Upon further thought, it would seem more logical if they were to try and maybe set up a world's finest film first.

The screenwriters put the cameo in (a Clark Kent cameo actually), knowing fully that the studio might take it out.

Bertlani said the studio originally encouraged the script to have crossover cameos.

Agreed 10000%.
Their relationship is so complicated and requires a lot of character development so it deserves its own film. It would bog down a JL movie. Besides, they should already be friends when the JL is formed because since Clark hated him at first (and vise versa), i doubt that they'd let the *****e in when nobody likes him or appreciates him. It's great when one defends the other even though they re so different (see "BM-SM-WW: Trinity" for example).

For a story that deals with the beginning of their friendship i'd use elements from Timm and Dini's animated movie, and "S|B: Annual #2".

I just hope Bale isn't involved. The last thing he needs is to be typecast. One more Batman movie, then run as fast as he can from Batman, Terminator, etc.

World's Finest could be a great movie and leave the possibility of JL in far better standing.

First they need to have GL, Wonder Woman, and Flash show what they got before JL.

So we still have a longs way to go. Assuming it will ever happen.

I hadn't heard that Berlanti had said that. I read comments of Guggenheim's that they put the cameo in knowing that it might come out, but I guess that doesn't preclude the studio having asked for cameos in the first place.

It would be awesome if this film somehow sets in motion a worlds finest film..
Maybe Bruce could make a cameo like I mentioned above and Clark could make a cameo in Batman III.
Then the film after would be WF.

This is absolutely great news. Variety states that he may bring on a co-writer as well (Nolan?) This sure supports Christopher Nolan's involvement. This is great news for Superman fans, the only thing that bothers me is the fact that they are going back to John Byrne for a modern reboot? Why not Jeph Loeb or Mark Waid? They are much more modern.

IGN has already said that Jonah Nolan is co-writing it with Goyer.

EXCLUSIVE UPDATE: IGN has heard from reliable sources that Tull is downplaying this report. Goyer is in fact on the project, but not only that -- his The Dark Knight co-writer Jonah Nolan will also be scripting Superman: The Man of Steel along with him. Nolan's brother Christopher is expected to only executive-produce, and not direct, the film. That said, he will be "hands-on" as a producer. Since the Superman film is under the gun because of the ongoing legal entanglements involving the property, Warner Bros. wants the pair to get started on their script on the double.

Our sources add that Warners is confident in the early work that Goyer and Jonah Nolan have done so far on Batman 3, and that as a result Superman has now taken on a higher priority status at the studio than it had since Superman Returns was released.
