David O. Russell’s “Amsterdam” (Bale, Robbie, JDW)

This is looking like another American Hustle to me. That movie ****ing sucks.

I can't say I'm overly infatuated with Russell's work. The Fighter is the one that stands out most but the story used a formula that is well worn. It really was a showcase for the actors.

As ensembles go however he's outdone himself here and maybe that's the hook for Russell because for I'll watch it for the actors alone.

I never knew he not only groped but admitted to doing so to his niece. It certainly is interesting he seems to have the same pulling power for actors regardless of the accusations. I think the cast are in for a fairly tough promotional run. I mean look at the crap Phoenix had to put up with in interviews for something that proved to be utterly innocuous......but can't say it wouldn't be justified in this case.

Silver Linings Playbook is one of my favourite movies. I haven’t seen much after that besides American Hustle

The cast shouldn’t have to answer for whatever Russell has done, take it up with Russell.

But I’m sure that won’t stop social media from a round of “cancellations”.

As for Russell’s work, I haven’t seen enough to have an opinion, but I like Silver Linings Playbook.

Eh, with this cast and rumored premise, I will pay to watch it. DOR placing Nolan in a headlock is an unfortunate picture moment lost in time.

We don't talk about Uwe Boll, but O. Russell is one guy I wouldn't mind seeing him in a boxing match with. :funny:

Bale’s weight just goes all over the place doesn’t it?

I do not understand how a director as "middle-of-the-road" as Russell is able to pull a cast like this. He's snatching up celebrities for this like its a Wes Anderson feature. Especially given he's such a controversial personality. The script must be amazing.

Russell is passionate and driven. Passion and drive attracts actors. Plus regardless of what you think of his films, Russell is a different class of director. Theres nothing cookie cutter or generic or cheap about his work.

Because actors in his movies get Oscar noms

Curious about this project, i really like American Hustle.

The old title was SO much better. Why is it so freaking hard to get movies original titles these days? This is almost as boring as 'Oppenheimer' over 'Destroyer of Worlds.'

Amsterdam Footage Reaction: The Latest From David O. Russell [CinemaCon 2022]

The footage begins with John David Washington and Margot Robbie saying the film's title: "Amsterdam." We then got a glimpse of Christian Bale, whose character recalled Dr. John H. Watson from "Sherlock Holmes" in terms of his appearance.

He's in a bad spot and looked like he had recently taken a heavy beating. We then got a sneak peek at Robert De Niro, who was seated with a dog in his lap. Washington, Robbie, and Bale's characters then proceeded to form a pact. They're people who save lives in times of war, like doctors. "Do me a favor," says Bale. "Try to be optimistic."

The footage also provided a glimpse at Chris Rock, who's among the many members of the film's supporting cast. He made a crack about how he and Washington's characters are the ones who'll really get into trouble, seeing as they're both Black men and there's a dead white guy in a box in the room with them.

Cant wait for the trailer. American Hustle was great, one of the best American comedy films in years.

Hustle was OK. David’s last movie was horrible though. Hopefully this uses its cast well.

I remember enjoying some of American Hustle, but it was so all over the place. Joy was a lot more focused.

Why do we keep giving David O. Russell work in Hollywood when he's got such a bad reputation?

Folks despite their best judgement still wanna work with him for the cred.

The same reason Woody Allen and Roman Polanski keep getting work.

I might’ve missed, when David O’Russel got cancelled…
