This is a plea to Marvel & Disney to please open Avengers day and date. None of this opening two weeks ahead of time business that they've been pulling with Iron Man 2 and Thor. I know, I know, easter holidays in foreign markets, yada yada yada.

But imagine the excitement of a worldwide Avengers opening weekend! It'll be an event instead of just a movie. And maybe just for 3 days we can have a peaceful world while everyone on the planet goes to the movies.

That's cool but I'm talking about the movie opening in most major markets on the same day instead of staggered release dates like IM2 and Thor had.

Oh, now I get it. Yeah, somehow I think, that Marvel & Disney will follow their Tron Legacy/PotC4 strategy with The Avengers, which is pretty awesome, considering, that Disney KNOWS HOW to PROMOTE their movies in a BIG WAY!

I agree (And I'm from the UK).

Much prefer it when everyone gets to see it at the same time.

I agree. It's bull**** that some countries got Thor two weeks early.

First of all, I totally agree, it needs to open the same day worldwide. But obviously, that makes it harder for everyone to promote it internationally, attending all the premieres and such. This is gonna sound kinda random, but I think it would be cool, since the cast is so damn big, if they did like NBC did with their (yes, crap) TV show Heroes in its heyday: a couple weeks before release, split the cast up into groups of 3-4 and send them on an international promo tour (like send RDJ, Evans & Renner to Europe; Sam, ScarJo, Gregg & Smulders to Asia; Hems, Ruffalo & Hiddleston to Australia, etc) then have them all converge in Hollywood (or wherever) for the US premiere. That way they could still have the international awareness/hype all happening at the same time.

NBC had the Heroes teams take Flipcams to document the madness, and it was actually pretty entertaining.

I trust disney to make great marketing decisions

That's true, Pirates is opening day and date. Hopefully they wise up and do it here :argh:

That could be fun. And if they mix up the groups so different people were lumped together for different countries we could get a bunch of different interviews with different dynamics.

I'd love a day and date opening, but in Europe at least, you'd risk empty premiere cinemas if an important World Cup game is on at the same time. For the GA, football >>> Avengers. (Crazy, I know.) Which is, I think, the reason why IM 2 opened on a staggered schedule.

It was the reason for Iron Man 2's staggered dates but I thought the World Cup wasn't until 2014?

I second this.

Yeah, but 2012 is the EURO, which is almost as important as the World Cup. But it doesn't start until June, so it probably won't affect Avengers

If it doesn't start until June then it should be no problem.

Yeah the Avengers should definately open in most major markets on the first day, but I think it was good finacial decision to release Thor internationally first.

This is different from Thor. This is a sequel that will make its money no matter when it opens and it won't be competing directly with an action franchise that has become huge overseas.

Exactly, that's what I'm saying, that was the best way to handle Thor but it's NOT how they should handle the Avengers.

By the same logic, isn't Thor a sequel, too?

Anyway, you're right about the football thing. So, no reason not to open day and date, then.

Thor is arguably a sequel but it's not the same logic. Avengers is unarguably, unequivocally a sequel.

It's an entirely new movie comprised of characters from different movies. How does that equate to a sequel?

It is the continuation of Tony Stark's story from his movies.

It is the continuation of Thor and Loki's story from Thor.

It is the continuation of Cap's story from The First Avenger.

How does that not equate to a sequel?
