Day of the Dead (Remake)

I don't mind a young cast as long as it isn't predominantly young. Like how the Dawn remake had Kevin Zegers and Lindy Booth as the youngest of the group and the rest of the peoples ages varied and it worked.
And not calling her old but Mena Suvari isn't like a teenager or anything.

Nick Cannon better be the first to die in this movie though.

The Dawn remake was woefully bad, and anyone dissing the original Day of the Dead obviously does not know anything about zombie films.
Day' is awesome and Romero's personal fav.
I wish hollywood would just quit it w/ the horror remakes, there has not been one half decent film since this pathetic trend began in 2000 or so.

Personally, I say stick with the original Romero Dead films and skip the remakes.

Shaun of the Dead was more reverent (and a more fitting homage) to George.

Also, read Max Brooks' "World War Z". Great book. Not so much a survival horror story, but a geo-political zombie simulation.

Dangerous people have different opinions. Dawn of the Dead is most everyones favorite. It was a very fun and exciting film for it's day...hell it's still fun to watch. Because someone doesn't like a movie doens't mean they know nothing about Zombie films. Not everyone likes every film but I loved Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Shaun of the Dead, and really didn't like the original day of the dead at all. Probably because how fun Dawn was. I don't give a crap if romero liked it' better. I thought the new Dawn was a solid film...not as fun as the original and it could never possibly recapture that magic...but it was a solid film. I agree with your comments on horror remakes as most are bad. Why the hell did they remake Steven Kings best film "The Shining"...and Carpenter's The Thing on tv? Really what was the point. I'm not even sure if The Thing one was ever made but they were talking about it. Now they're remaking The Changeling which was eerie as all hell.

I thought the Dawn remake was a decent zombie film. I always recall how someone online tweeked the original tagline for the remake = "When there's no more room in hell, the dead will... sprint across the Earth like freaking cheetahs."

The biggest problem I had with the remake was that it didn't seem to tackle the social commentary of materialism/commercialism like the original.

i didn't mind the dawn remake...when i suspended my knowledge of it being called "dawn of the dead"... hopefully i can say the same about the day remake. But really, wouldn't we all just rather see a well done (and i stress WELL DONE) movie version of Walking Dead, or a series of movies...my answer is yes.

Oh of course but this thread is about the Day of the Dead remake so if you're interested create another thread about Zombie/Walking Dead films and I'm there.

It baffles me that so many people hate Day, which I thought was the second best in the series, after Dawn. And no, I am not looking forward to this.

They hate it because it was awful. Romero gets huge props for creating the sub genre but every subsequent zombie film he made was almost a parody of itself. The great horror directors of the past are all hacks now. I'd sooner just some unknown director to direct a good horror flick than guys like Carpenter, Craven, Hooper, etc.

Zombie movies are out...a sequel to Dawn should have been made immediately after the first one. RE3 is going to struggle as well as this one.

You missed out Gus van Saints' version of Psycho.
Oh dear.
Hey if you liked NOTLD/Dawn fair enuf if u din like Day, they are all quite different. What did u think of Land of the Dead? To me it was basically Romero compromising a bit w/ a big studio and turning out a kinda 6/10 zombie film, which is sad to say. Wish he had just done it independently again. But hey, at least it had Asia Argento looking all foxy.

I saw the new Psycho. It was nothing close to the original. Kind of lame but cool to see Vince Vaughn doing that kind of stuff. That's why I want him for Jigsaw. Land of the Dead...looked cheesey so I didn't waste my money.

I actually liked all of Romero's Dead movies, including Day and Land. I still don't know why people hated Day so much, the only part that bothered me was when Sarah and the pilots were in the cave and they got close ups of their character shooting; Though that was very lame and unneeded. Land was a good rejuvenation of his series imho, instead of focusing on a small group of people fighting the zombies in a deserted building, he actually made it that all the survivors were able to make a small city and he also made people become scavengers going out into the zombie infested land instead of having everyone clueless as to what to do.

Hahaha, people talking s*** about original Day are just not living on my planet, at all, lol.
I love the original three, all of them. Such great films. However Day certainly is last on my list after a dead heat between the first two (which may be among my favorite movies EVER). Day suffered from a horrible cast, which the others films did not have. Also a bigger budget would have helped the Day people so much more.

If you ever get a chance read the original Day script, it's magnificent. This really would have been Romero's masterpiece. However it got hacked to sh** due to budget and production. The openning we never got to see would have showed fully the devestation across the world. The script is just brillant. So now with a budget and a (decent) cast perhaps we can have the Day we should have.

Agreed on all points.

I've wanted to read that for a long time. Do you know where I could find it?

Never read the book and maybe it was awesome so I'll have to check it out but as you said the movie wasn't the book. Still I enjoyed the remake...but never suggested it was anything more than enjoyable. I just feel we should give this one a chance considering they probably budgeted this one correctly and the make up effects look pretty solid.

Should be able to find it here. This site is awesome.

They also have the original Dawn of the Dead script which features an alternate ending where Peter is devoured and then Francine (waiting on the roof watching this unfold) places her head in the moving helicopter blades killing herself.

Many thanks to you.

I met Ken Foree at the comic-con. He has a site here on myspace. He told us so I know it's real. Down to Earth guy. Really cool.
