DC and their "Urban Demographic"

LOL! They'll be callin' him the 'bling slinger' instead of ring slinger.

But I always thought of Green Lantern oath to recharge his ring sound like a Rap song anyway.

Maybe everytime he do it on screen they'll have some funky beats going on in the background. :word:

So Tyrese or some hip-hop star plays John Stewart, what will you guys to if he refers to the ring has his "bling?"

I've always thought comic book readers and true believers of (fantasy) to be a special lot of individuals.
The world would be a better place with more of OUR kind in it.
Sadly I was mistaken. :csad:

The world is a better place because of people like us.

We're just making fun of Hollywood sterotypes if they go with a younger hip-hop version of Jon Stewart. Don't take us serious.

You can be joking all you like, but rehearsing a stereotype still brings it power.

No. You give it power by letting it DEFINE who you are and what your character and self-worth is.

Define your own character and not what others may think of you regardless of how you talk or what you look like.

Look man, I'm not getting into a pissing contest with you or anyone else about a little off-hand joke I made with "tongue in cheek".

I'm a 40 year old black man, living in the South all my life, so I know all about putting up and breaking down negative stereotypes, and the one thing I know is that my character and self-worth will always be define by how I look at myself and not how others look at me.

If someone is going to characterize you by what they perceive you to be, then no matter what you do or say or how you look will change their mind.

Tyrese is not as bad as you make him and his teen base consist of more then tennyboppers. The problem with blacks in hollywood is that they don't have enough clout so they are portrayed as one diementional. We'll never know Tyrese's range as an actor cause studios think this is how black males all act or if not that the comic relief like Anthony Anderson's character in Transformers. They also think this is what black people want to see. Until more people of color are placed in positions to change things this is going to go on for a while.

I've said before that I want john stewart portrayed as he is in the comics and not some angry black man with a chip on his shoulder. I can live with Tyrese cause he's decent enough but I already know that WB is going to tailor make the role to fit that urban hipster black guy with a chip on his shoulder or as you say the same character that Tyrese plays in all his films and their's nothing we can do about it.

Tyrese has a fan base besides naive teenage girls?

Oh yeah I just just have to think of the Fast and the Furious type of audience.....

Scary.....

Well in the Black community his support is pretty spread out. We're not talking Zack Efron(can't believe I mentioned his name) or Chris Brown here. Now exactly how many teen girls did you see in the audience of the Fast and furious 2? Now i saw that flick and many will agree that the main demo of that film was male. Tyrese did not pull in a ton of teen girls.

My God! Cringe worthy. I hope they don't do that! LOL!

Actually I was smart enough to not waste my time and money to those garbage Fast and Furious films in the theater.

I assume teenage girls....because why would teenage boys look up to Tyrese and be fans of him? He is garbage.....LOL

Thank you! If those that were so offended by my comment took a look at my more serious take on the subject in this thread I felt African Americans may be more offended if Stewart was a slang talking cliche in WB's attempt to be more hip in the eyes of white teenage suburbia.

True. And while what others think/feel/believe about me does not control my life, sometimes I imagine what my life would be like without those specific negative stereotypes.

I'm all for pointing out stereotypes to prove how rediculous they are, but even the title of this thread gives serious weight to them and I find that rediculous. So I still agree that the conversation, as a whole, does not inspire confidence in the intellectual acuity or integrity of comic book fans in general.

I'm sorry that you think this about a single off-hand comment.

Another man's garbage is another man's treasure.

Also tyrese is like 30 years old, why would his fan base be all teen girls??? Not saying he don't have teen girls as fans, but someone who has been around a good amount of time in the entertainment industry means their base is probably spread around.

^ One of the many reasons why the movie industry is getting worse and worse and why the overall decline in BO the last 5 years.

Can't argue with you there. You can also throw the music industry in there as well. In my opinion it's the suits, who are supposed to handle the business side of both the film and music industry are now getting their uncreative and unimaginative @sses involved in the creative process. This wasn't the cse before but now it's common and both music and movies are suffering for it.
