Why do so many people want Common to be Green Lantern? Or is that just the latest rumor to latch onto and pretend to like?

Because he's supposedly a really good actor. I'd also be fine with Derek Luke for the same reason.

I don't know about the mediocre part...but I agree with the second.

I want a blockbuster franchise! If it won awards, great! I don't care though. This film should be ENTERTAINMENT first, art second. They should try to make the best film they can, but I don't think WB will be submitting them to the Academy for their consideration.
i was actually hoping that this would be an epic movie, usually those are more entertaining anyways

Well for me, it's not that I want him but I find him having much more credibility than the other rumored name Tyrese Gibson.

Not always . . . Troy, Alexander, Kingdom of Heaven . . . All movies that would probably be considered epic, but not entertaining.

Well of course epic. But epic doesn't always mean award winning piece. It just means it has a grand scale!

I used this as an example.....I and I'm sure most of you non SHEEP in here would prefer to see that cast that as used as an example instead of a ridiculous C and D grade cast of actors.

A) Your cast list sucks
B) Disagreeing with you doesn't make anyone a "sheep"

Of course it sucks....cause its NOT better than this one....

Superman- Scott Porter or Matthew Bomer or Tom Welling
Batman- DJ "WHO" Catrona or Armie Hammer??
WW- MEW...baby face.....or Gale no acting experience weird face
Flash/Allen- Porter Friday Night Lights??
Flash/Brody and what is he in again?
Aquaman- might as well cast the guy who played him on Smallville....don't know who the hell that is
MM- CGI.....thank god

Talia- Palmer....a 20 year old natural blonde playing an exotic brunette like Talia??
Max Lord- who knows but might as well cast James Van Der Beek

LMAO!

Why do you have to know who they are before they are cast DK? How will that affect anything?

Yea,it just seems like lazy casting IMO.

I'm just glad that Hal will have the spotlight all to himself if and when the solo flicks get off the ground with Berlanti at the helm.

Yeah....I hope and pray that solo GL film with Hal as the lead is done well. Thank goodness they are not giving Common the lead in that film. Who knows though knowing the schizophrenic and paranoid nature of WB's execs....they might replace Common as John Stewart in the solo GL film directed by Berlanti! I would not put it passed them after this JL silliness.

:joker:

Reliving this to make people remember the screenplay is good.

Flash (Barry Allen) - Ryan Reynolds.
Flash (Wally West) - Scott Porter.
Green Lantern - Common.
Aquaman - Jasom Lewis.
Martian Manhunter - Hugh-Keays Byrne.

Max Lord - Andy Whitfield.
Talia Al Ghul - Eva Green.
R'as Al Ghul - Liam Neeson.
Graves - Armie Hammer.
Rex - Jay Baruchel.
McCarthy - Arthur Krestchmen.

Did they audition any professional black actors for the John Stewart role?

Yea from what i remember hearing when it was picked to be john stewart gl for the film they would looking at rappers/hip hop dudes to appeal to the hip young crowds that are into that. Also being they went to black gl they wanted to have more diversity in the group. Personally yea i wish actual black actors were looked into for the role there is plently of good ones out there. But i think common could do well as john i never seen his other films he has done but i only heard good things about them. So if in the end he stays gl i would wait to judge him untill i see footage/the film.

WW- MEW...baby face.....or Gale no acting experience weird face

MEW's age would work against her. She should be good enough to make to be an equal to the other Leaguers. Definitely have to lose the "vulnerable" side to work. Gale's got the perfect look only she lacks MEW's acting skill to back it up.

Aquaman- might as well cast the guy who played him on Smallville....don't know who the hell that is

They should make the team's angry lone wolf. Gerald Butler would be great. he can come across as intelligent while being a convincing warrior who has much in common with Wonder Woman.

Peter David's Aquaman would rock in live action.

MM- CGI.....thank god

J'onn needs an actor who can come across as incredibly intelligent. It would be important to show how incredibly sad he is since his whole world destroyed. Unlike Superman J'onn knew his race. Even had a wife and daughter.

Talia- Palmer....a 20 year old natural blonde playing an exotic brunette like Talia??

Won't be a problem. Ra's was played by an Irishman in BB. Any caucasian actress could do it. With Palmer they can give her a wig or hair dye.

Max Lord- who knows but might as well cast James Van Der Beek

LMAO!
Ven Der Beek can be a great bad guy. His performance in Rules of Attraction was amazing.

Not surprised with this film's budget.

Surprised Gibson didn't get it. He's much more qualified with acting experience and skill then Common.

Also being they went to black gl they wanted to have more diversity in the group.

Not surprised with that. Stewart's doing the same thing like in the cartoon.

No problem with that. He is a character with enormous potential.

Agreed.

Yes, and because of that disappointment, you're not getting a sequel before JLA. What does that tell you? They have to regroup for another Superman movie, and they're going to have to do it, after a JLA film.

They can't make a new super-hero non-JL linked franchise while producing JL at the same time?

They all don't have to be tentpoles or have huge bloated budgets.

It's funny you should mention Blade, Marvel had to remove their name from Blade in order for a studio to take a chance on it.

They might have had no choice at their end. I heard Marv Wolfman, Blade's creator, wasn't happy with being left out of the process in an article in Wizard.

Because the studio didn't want people to know that it was a comic book film. Thanks to Batman/Supes's films, that made Hollywood hate comic book movies.

Blaming the genre instead of their incompetent management. Real mature of them.

As for Iron Man, Marvel now has a huge movie going brand name now. Iron Man is following behind successful multi-billion dollar franchises in Spider-Man and X-Men. Marvel is now bold enough with their success to finance their own films. Without Spidey and X-Men movies putting Marvel Films on the map, I doubt this would be possible.

Definitely agreed.

I'm not saying that a Green Latern movie can't be successful, I'm telling you the way Warner Bros. is looking at the matter. They have to be thinking, "should we spend 150-200M on a Green Latern movie, when we did that for a character who's 50 times more popular whom disappointed at the box office." You see, you look at it through fanboy eyes, WB is looking at from a business standpoint.

That's easily solved. Lower the budget and use smaller scale stories. Hiring directors who can do well with smaller budgets would be a simple option.

Now let's take JLA. Here you have Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman (three icons) and even the smaller name characters that people want to see on screen. In short, the box office pull is greater than a GL or a Flash movie.

Superman and Batman's built-in audience is much, much larger then the JL, WW, GL etc brands put together.

Not to mention, seeing them interact with one another, knowing that they have different backgrounds and powers/skills, and coming from various comic books is intriguing.

It's also easy to screw up. They only get one shot at this.

On top of that, this is something that not even Marvel has ever done on film, multiple properties coming together in one film and forming a group. A group, that because of its ICON characters is bigger than the X-MEN by leaps and bounds, and has more power-play then anything in Spider-Man.

It carries a bigger risk if they fail. They're doing something nobody have done before, that means they have no blueprints to follow.

Majik:

Gibson was extraordinarily good in Baby Boy. It was a lead role. He nailed it.

Quantity does not equal quality.

I never said that. Tyrese has been making films longer than Common. That's all I said.

I also agree with Major. Gibson was really good in 'Baby Boy'.

Anyway, we could use that same argument for Megan Gale.

Come on guys, try to learn a little bit more about the people you are talking about. Just because Common is a rapper, don't think that he is a pants sagging, mysoginistical, drug dealing, wannabe thug. I think the guy is perfect for John Stewart, because I've actually seen him act and have listened to his music enough to know why it is important to him to take this role. Try to be a little bit more knowledgeable.

If it's true that they wanted a rap/hip hop guy, I'm glad they got him. :woot:

Common is hip hop, and he happens to rap, but he's not the MTV type. I'm sure once they auditioned and interviewed him they came away very impressed, that he wasn't typical, and were probably very happy they picked the right one.
