More Exclusive Story Info About the Jla by Patrick Sauriol

Come on guys, try to learn a little bit more about the people you are talking about. Just because Common is a rapper, don't think that he is a pants sagging, mysoginistical, drug dealing, wannabe thug. I think the guy is perfect for John Stewart, because I've actually seen him act and have listened to his music enough to know why it is important to him to take this role. Try to be a little bit more knowledgeable.

It doesn't mean he's their only option to choose from.

Hollywood is full of talented black actors who have a better resume.

The only thing they lack which WB wants is recognisation and a built in fanbase.

While Common has his following, he is more underground than mainstream. Even though he's won 2 Grammy. He's not commercial by any stretch. I'm sure it was more his audition than anything. If they were going to go by popularity, they probably would have went with 50 cent.

And that would be selling a whole lot of black actors short, who do have a following. Why not go with Jaime Foxx, Will Smith? They have talent and name recognition. Morris Chestnut, he's way more accomplished and popular than Common in the black community, especially with women.

I didn't even know who he was until I saw 'Smokin' Aces'.

He's not that underground if he's winning Grammies or getting roles in high profile films like Smokin' Aces or Wanted.

Has he or anyone at WB said what he did to get the role?

I'm sure his first film bombed.

WB even seems to be looking for actors with some acting skills if Common and Gibson were asked. Johnson's performance in Get Rich or Die Tryin' didn't impress the public.

and Samuel Jackson wasn't impressed with Curtis Jackson either, but he has a lot more fans than Common. I think get rich did well at the box office the first weekend due to his following.

Hip Hop fans recognize Common as being underground. he was given a chance in Smoking Aces, did well enough Denzel gave him a chance in American Gangster, and he continues to get offers.

Did it end up breaking even at the box office?

True.

He seems to be successfully managing both acting and rapping simulaneously. That can't be easy to do.

GRODT pretty much broke even, made $6 mill over budget, with an opening weekend of $12mill which isn't bad considering what the movie was. ran from Nov 05 - Feb 06. fwiw, I still haven't seen the movie as I'm not a 50 cent fan.

Ugh. Don't even go there. I'm still ashamed of the movie industry for putting him in "Righteous Kill".
