Why did'nt they do that for Superman: Doomsday then?

to be fair, they really didn't use much from the original story...it was also the first DTV for WB and DC so they wanted to go with something familiar to the audience

It's a shame though because it had the potential to be great. Superman: Doomsday could have featured both The Death of Superman and World Without a Superman and then had a follow up with The Return of Superman. Done more faithfully those would have been great IMO...

A 70 minute movie was just kind of the wrong venue for the Death of Superman story. I'd much rather see the story as a multi-episode arc on a series. I'd love to see a continuation of STAS one day and have them do the full blown Death of Superman arc.

well I first saw the film at SDCC in '07 and they had a Q and A panel afterwards and someone did ask about the original storyline and all that....a big issue was the money, WB was still wary about these straight to video animated films and only giving them so much money to do them

and as for the films that have been released so far, some have sold very well but WB hasn't seen that one big seller that they want yet

Pretty much this, the sales have been good but not a big blowout sale they want.

Superman/Batman: Public Enemies might be that one though. Superman and Batman together for little kids? They'll be jumping all over this.

I'm definitely hoping that Warner Bros./Bruce Timm decide to do the Supergirl arc as a sequel.

I would like to see this too. Well I wouldn't mind seeing them do an adaptation of each volume of the Seperman/Batman tpbs.

Well with the new court ruling with the siegels now gaining the rights of more of the origins of superman we are likely never now going to get a superman batman teamup or jl film with supes.

They got the rights to the origins (as in life on Krypton), why would that prevent WB from making a movie set later on in his life? If anything, it just means we won't see a 'Superman Begins' movie, which I'm actually pleased about as we've seen that story told enough times already.

Well they could probably still use the origin elements if they want heck they have to pay the families for the characters of clark/supes, lois lane as it is. I guess they would just have to pay more to use the origin if they really do. Just the whole court things is just a darn hassle. I hope things work out in the end really and the character stays fully intact. Cause really would most fans only want to see a half/half superman character both parties could be left with if they took it from wb/dc?

And it will SUCK without Supes.

I couldn't agree more. But if they decide using him is too costly they won't do it. If that happens I'll be angrier than I already am that WB has sat on JL for so many years. Not that I wanted the last project to move forward with all the questionable casting choices it had, but it's a shame they haven't been able to put something decent together by now.

Well i do hope in the end a full 100% superman will remain at wb/dc and that the families just charge wb/dc a reasonable fee to license the character in tact.

Yea i didnt like alot of the cast choices or some of the rumored direction it might have gone. But now i am curious to see how it would have turned out. So we could have at least had all the characters together on the big screen. I do hope they will be able to have 100% supes and in few years do it or atleast a WF/trinity film.

Doomsday sold around 9 Million copies. That's easily over a 100 million in revenue for an initial investment of probably well under 10 million. I'd think they should have been pretty thrilled with those numbers.

WB was expecting more (around 12-15 million copies) simply because of the Superman name...Im sure they appreciated what they got, but it wasn't to expectations

I think traditional animation is fine, its just finding a story that is going to catch on....the main element of success to these DTVs is word of mouth....I think Public Enemies might be that one they are looking for

the story itself is not that complicated...and its one of the better stories of the Superman/Batman run....

Im still cranky over Allison Mack and the taint of Smallville involved in this....ugh
