DC Animated - Superman/Batman: Public Enemies

because of Gomer Pyle, not the comic...I do recall the horrid live action series, they had an RV that had a lightning bolt plastered on the front of it....when was there an animated series??

There were two actually. Late 70's and early 80's. The second one was about a superhero high school.

I loved Public Enemies. Great animation, it was like it leaped right out of the comic. I would love to see a new Batman d Superman series done like this. The voice acting was the best. Conroy and Daly are the best!

At this point, with today's crowd, I think more people know the word "shazam" from when Spider-Man was learning how to shoot webs in his movie (even though that was a Cpt. Marvel reference). Or else they might get confused and think that was what Shaq says in his genie movie (which was "Kazam", not "Shazam").

If Superman and Batman and Wonder Woman are A list, Green Lantern, Flash, and Aquaman are B list, Captain Marvel is C list. I would say guys like Green Arrow and Martian Manhunter are somewhere between B and C at this point, because of their exposure on the Smallville series. Despite what you say about the show, it is getting good exposure to the masses for the various DC characters when they show up (epsecially repeatedly like the Leaguers on Smallville...though Manhunter has been lacking recently...).

This is in terms of recognition, not neccessarily who's a more important/ stronger hero. I had always known about the Superman and Batman and Wonder Woman TV series, but didn't know Captain Marvel had one until recently. Didn't know about the animated one til it was just mentioned here.

Hopefully if DC gets around to a Cpt. Marvel film, that will change, though I hope they would get around to the main Leaguers before him. Why a Lobo movie is getting made before a Flash or Wonder Woman movie is BEYOND me, though that's a discussion for another thread...

would be great, its too bad that wolfgang peterson one didnt happen a few years back. Cause at this rate we have no clue what is ever going to come about for superman on film again.

Just saw it!!!

I think this is the BEST So Far..

The VA are great, the Animation is great, the action is great, and the story is better than the actual comic book.

There's no time travel unlike the book and the frame-up is better here than in the book.

The only thing better in the book is the narrative thoughts of Supes and Bats which explains alot.

But it's the BEST animated movie DC has done.

The Supes vs. Shazam was better in JLU but their clash is in this one is also pretty good.

Here's my ranking so people can understand my taste:

1. Public Enemies
2. The New Frontier
3. First Flight
4. Wonder Woman
5. Doomsday
6. Gotham Knight

I just watched it and I thought it was great. One of the best DC movies to come out yet.

And whoever thinks Captain Marvel is a "No Name" needs to read some history of the character.

He's one of the best known and loved characters of all time.

3. Wonder Woman

The rest don't matter.

I'd say

1 Wonder Woman
2 Gotham Knight
3 Justice League : The New Frontier
4 Public Enemis
5 Green Lantern

For those who saw it, how's Shiva in the film?

(Reply in spoiler tags)

I personally wasn't a fan of how all the characters looked all bulked up and everything but thats just me. Otherwise, great movie. Bats and Supes chemistry was especially well done. This and Wonder Woman are my favorites so far.

She's hot and she didn't really say anything if I remember, it's exactly like the comic book WITHOUT Batman's narrative thoughts on her

Why can't they have a cool Superman fight in live action like they do in the animated movies...They can do it, but yet they alway wuss out on Superman in Live action.

1. Public Enemies
2. Wonder Woman
3. First Flight
4. Gotham Knights
5. The New Frontier
6. Doomsday

She's also apparently less skilled than she is in the comics.

Saw it. Enjoyed it. Didn't love it.

Probably my third favourite DC Animated release (following Wonder Woman and The New Frontier). I certainly wish it had been longer (with more character work as opposed to more action) and I was a little lost when it came to the giant Superman/Batman robot rocket, but I guess it was from the comics, so I can't complain (too loudly) about them being faithful to the comics.

Cheers.

I saw the movie on Friday night and it was pretty good. I still enjoyed Green Lantern more than this but I would rank this movie as #2 on my favorite list.

Very cool movie. Not my favorite. Never read S/B until Michael Turner took over w/ the Supergirl Arc. I actually thought it was her spaceship that was coming in the astroid. I didn't care for the animation at all. I saw Bruce Timm speaking on how this was a mesh between his style and McGuinness' but it didn't work for me. I'd rather they use the JLI or Wonder Woman style. Kevin Conroy is Batman and I'm glad he was cast along w/ Daly. As far as action, I don't think there's ever been an animated movie w/ this many fight sequences. LOL only Bats and Supes could even be standing at the end of the day w/ all the battles they went through.

I'll give it 8 out of 10.

eh...its different...I liked it...and we've seen his style used constantly for the past decade plus, its nice to see something different

Thanks guys.

I enjoyed the movie, but it felt a bit lacking overall.

Not much of a plot, just Lex Luthor becoming president, putting a bounty on Superman's head, and a random meteor threat, with Batman tagging along for the ride.

Lot of lost potential, really. Lex Luthor becoming president alone could make quite a story if done right. Heroes having to choose their loyalties, how to deal with him as commander in chief, etc.

The two main characters aren't really utilized very much, beyond in fight scenes. Clark Kent is a major reporter, couldn't he have been used in some capacity when dealing with a major public figure like Lex Luthor? Or Bruce Wayne, a multi-billionaire, whose company is connected to the government, which is now run by Luthor.

Some characters also seemed noticeably absent, especially the Flash. They mention him, and we even see his arch-foe Grodd, but where is he? Normally wouldn't be such an issue for other heroes not to show up, but in this case it just seemed odd. I'm going to guess it might have been a copyright issue or something.

All in all a decent movie, but with some issues. Fight scenes were great though.
