DC Announces Vixen Animated Series set in CWverse

She was part of the Suicide Squad before joining the JL. I wonder if they'll venture there. Maybe have her as one of the first SS members before she reformed.

Maybe it's something we could see on Arrow/Flash if they bring her over to the live-adaptation world.

Wasn't she originally supposed to be in the SS movie, then they randomly replaced her with Enchantress (never heard of her)? I guess when they cast Will Smith as Deadshot they realized they had too many black people :oldrazz:

I've never heard of this character before, so color me interested. I wonder why they've chosen to go the animation route since, based on what I can find on the character, there doesn't seem to be much about her that wouldn't work in live-action.

Vixen was part of the very short lived DC Explosion, where a plan to devote some of each book's was killed by a need to cut the page counts of each books. She didn't see publication for a couple of years after that.

Sucks that it may be digital only but I'm happy to see Vixen getting some love, nonetheless. She's an awesome yet underrated character.

Well i'm going to assume Harley Quinn is the female lead of SS, so i would say Harley Quin replaced her. Vixen, Deadshot and Rick Flagg we're the leads of SS' original script.

Still let's cross our fingers for Vixen in Arrow live action, perhaps an appearences in the comics more often or her own ongoing! I'd just add her to Justice League personally. :b

The series expected to come this Fall, and it will feature into the worlds of Flash and Arrow. The project is being shepherded by Arrow's Marc Guggenheim. It's only on the CW Seed which is the CW's digital only station.

Costume's a bit plain, but I like what I'm seeing.

It appears that DC is 100% committed to the Young Justice style art that's been dominating their animated films for the last few years. I'm not complaining, I really like the style, but I wouldn't have said no to a bit of diversity.

Well through out the 90's/early 2000's they mostly used the Bruce Timm style. So they have a past track record of this. It'd probably cheaper/more convenient to use the same studio for most of their stuff. And at least it's GOOD animation.

you're right. and I frickin love that animation style. It looks great.

I am so excited for this. Vixen is such an underrated character and hooray for more diversity from DC!

+Guggenheim refers to the Vixen animated series as a spinoff, that will feature characters that currently appear on both Arrow and The Flash. Guggenheim also adds that the series will be a 6-part origin story for Vixen.

+One fun scene Guggenheim teased was that Oliver (Stephen Amell) will find out that Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) kissed Barry (Grant Gusting) in the animated series. Guggenheim says fans have been asking him for quite sometime whether Oliver would ever find out about that.

+Vixen will have a "big magic component"; something not previously explored on either Arrow or Flash.

+The Vixen animated series will be set in Detroit as a reference to the characters Justice League Detroit comic book roots.

+Writers Keto Shimizu and Brian Ford Sullivan are working on the series with Guggenheim.

+Here's what Guggenheim had to say about the animated series serving as a backdoor pilot of sorts for a live-action introduction of Vixen on Flash or Arrow. "We always say "never say never," and if the character resonates with people, that would be wonderful. I would love to be in a position where CW said to us, "Hey, we want a 'Vixen' live-action show." That'd be wonderful. We'll have to sort of see how things play out. But our goal really is to produce the highest-quality animated series. We want people to come to this who don't normally watch an animated show. We really want fans of "The Flash" and fans of "Arrow" to go to CW Seed. We really tried to approach it the same way we approach a pilot."

+As far as the characters from the live-action shows voicing their animated counterparts in Vixen, Guggenheim says many of the actors are just finding out about the project for the first time but the response from them has been encouraging so "all signs are good".

Hopefully, Vixen does eventually make her way over to the live-action Arrow and Flash TV shows. With Katana, Black Canary, Huntress, Speedy and even Felicity Smoak, Arrow is definitely making it possible for The CW to have a Birds of Prey spinoff.

Sorry to be a dick here, but why do people keep making TV show threads in the movie forum?

I'm not a huge fan of Vixen, but I love how they are branching into animation.

Vixen was in the JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA long before her Squad connection arose. She was part of the Detroit based JLA of the PRE-Crisis era, along with Vibe, Steel and Gypsy. She debuted in a DC COMICS PRESENTS story I believe, long before the first POST-Crisis SUICIDE SQUAD book was launched with the villains as black ops agents conceit.

I hope this succeeds. I like the character and its good that they are basing a cartoon around her. I hope it leads to a live-action depiction.

I love Vixen. That's who Jada should be playing. I hope this gets transitioned to live-action.

A six year old Suicide Squad script leaked, it literally has absolutely nothing to do with the upcoming Suicide Squad movie or anything else

I hope her friend Buddy Baker stops by to wish her luck.

I don't think he will since it's a 6 part origin story.

But it's really interesting that they didn't give Vixen a mask.

They probably figure no one will be looking at her face.

Seriously though, since when has Vixen worn a mask?

She did for a while when she first debuted. But if it isn't magical then she will be the first out hero/vigilanti.

Love this. So much potential for expansion. Not to mention animation gives you an opportunity to do things that are beyond a tv budget. Maybe even some cameos from Green Lantern, Lobo, New Gods, Mister Mxyzptlk etc.
