Flashpoint - DC Animated.

I haven't seen it yet but from what I hear there's no way they could have done the violence dark themed impact of this movie on JLU, the network wouldn't have touched it, or would have forced them to completely water it down.
I think one of the reasons Timm and co. launched the Direct to DVD brand, was to get around the network sensors and restrictions to tell the type of stories they actually wanted to tell.

Violence aside. I just think that superheroes are better explored in serialized form. I hate new continuity and having to reconnect with these characters in every film.

I just watched it, and after getting only 10 minutes into Superman: Unbound, I did not have high expectations. However, I ended up really, really enjoying it. More than anything, it's a film with consequence and heft, where I felt the impact and cost of death. Barry Allen was the most interesting I've ever found him (I've always been a Wally West guy) and all the characters were filled with purpose. Overall, the top 5 DC Animated films are:

1. Batman: Under the Red Hood
2. Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox
3. Wonder Woman
4. All-Star Superman
5. Green Lantern: First Flight

I agree except for me number 5 is number 4 and 4 is 5.

The film does grow on me, even tho i think Oliva went a tad too far in the violence at the end, it's still abit fantastic stuff, but yeah.

I watched this the other week, my initial reaction - holy **** at the level of violence! I couldn't believe who and how they killed characters, but it all added to the apocalypse like nightmare of the reality Flash was in, it conveyed really well how bad things had gotten and it was all up to him.

The only thing that caught me out was when did Barry actually go back and change his mum's fate? Like I guess that part was left ambiguous so we the audience felt lost in this new reality and searched for the answers with Bart.

Another thing, I never realised how awesome The Flash was until seeing Barry and Wally in action on Young Justice and this film. Their speed is so exhilarating to watch, I cannot wait for a Flash film now, pleeeeease let it be good.

The thing is in the comic it just starts and he's in the Flashpoint universe. I actually like the mystery of it. I think it maybe doesn't cut in quite aswell in the film as the book as they had to set up the world before with the Justice League and in some ways the Rogues so you could get the emotional impact.

Flashpoint is my second favorite DC animated movie. Loved seeing Flash and Cyborg and most of all Batman/Thomas Wayne... my favorite character. I didn't like Aquaman's design in the movie though.

Flashpoint launched the DCU into the NU52 universe...I think the same will be true of the animated universe since the next one is based on the first JL arc.

Animation wise the Direct to DVD movies have been for the most part stand alone self contained movies. No starting point except themselves.

He's suggesting they might change that and use the Flashpoint movie as a launch point for a Nu52 specific Animated universe.

Although I think they'll still treat them as mostly stand alone films, even though they are drawing from post 52 stories.
And still may occasionally do older pre-52 stories, or all original ones.

That I could get behind. Even though I disliked Johns JLA releaunch I do like the idea of a shared universe with the animated features. Let stories build. It enhances the consequences. Under The Hood was decent but how invested where we in the opening scene with Jason getting killed? Compared to following the comics, it just doesn't have the same impact when you keep rebooting with a new continuity.

Just watched this, and was severely disappointed. The over-the-top violence was childish and immature, and the nest scene of the entire storyline (when Flash gets to talk with his mum) was skipped over in favour of hackneyed violence and gratuitous imagery that added nothing. Not to mention that Aquaman and Wonder Woman had ridiculous reasons for becoming evil, and the former's design was laughable.

Flash has many suits..so that Nu52 suit could be just one his alternatives OR he just wanted a change of suit after his experience.

It's interesting to speculate, I'd say likely for Court of Owls but we'll have to wait and see.

Morrisons Action origin I'm not sure if they will after we got Brainiac in Superman Unbound but maybe years down the line. After all we are getting Darkseid again in JL War and he was the main villain in Superman Batman Apocalypse.

I just watched this and have to say, it's rather brutal in parts isn't it? I mean I enjoyed it. I didn't keep up with all the tie ins to the comic so some of the stuff was completely new to me. I liked it over all. Just a shame there was no Joker stuff, but it couldn't really fit in I suppose.

I've had this movie for awhile and just had the chance to watch it. I loved it! I really wish MARVEL would make the same kind of effort and create more animated movies instead of the MARVEL Knights stuff...they are good for motion comics, but animated would be better. DC really does a superior job on animated movies. I have enjoyed every one immensely. Some better than others...but it definitely keeps the craving for more stuff at least at bay a little.t:

I know MARVEL concentrates more on the motion pictures, but with Disney's monetary funding now, they could really make some good stuff. They back Ultimate Spider-Man, Avengers Assemble, and S.M.A.S.H. ...geared more towards kids, but geesh! Earth's Mightiest Heroes was awesome! Oh well, I guess all that money for producing animation needs to go towards financing the CGI company's for the films.

I enjoyed the film a lot. But I had just watched it after 'Doom' (which I felt was really slow and dull) so that could be a reason.

Wonder Woman's costume is pretty bad. Silver just doesn't work.

This one may be my favorite, or at the very least, in my top 5, of the animated films so far. Yes, the brutality enhanced my enjoyment of the film. It was very in-your-face and upfront about it. With such an apocalyptic story, it felt right that it was brutal. The only part where it got to me was

, but even then, it fit. The speech that Zoom/Reverse Flash gave towards the end was so awesome and actually made me angry at Barry for a second. I love it when a film can draw emotions from me.

Saw this over Christmas. It's amazing how DC does so well in the animated department over Marvel, but can't get live action right. Maybe their characters just work better in animation. I admit, the destruction in MoS seemed over the top, but here? It fits.
