DC Relaunching Everything?

ok, the changes to batman I can see from the pic
- All-Star Batman Emblem
- Classic Jim Lee cowl with longer ears and seams on the sides.
- New Belt
- Seems like a slightly armored suit.
- New gloves and gauntlets (gloves reminiscent of the gloves in The Dark Knight)

It's exhausting just hearing about this. So many changes to inevitably keep track of... :csad:

Don't worry about it Corpy. Just assume that the universe is completely f**ked, and you'll be alright.

I may just assume that the universe is completely irrelevant and save myself some money.

Also, what's with the collars? Is that the new mark of "new" and "hip"? Are collars the pouches of today?

It's as irrelevant as you deem it to be, comics are meant to be fun and i'm sure you read older stories because of quality, not relevance. :p

Just curious, does anyone feel like they could have done this (not entirely sure if this is the case yet since it has only been confirmed in the past few days) without possibly erasing the past continuity? I mean why couldn't this be the new Earth One from Pre-Crisis and the current Earth 0 that we've come to know and love is the new Earth Two with all the characters in it, grown with everything that has happened.

Sorry my last post wasn't written well at all- what I mean is can't we have the current "new" continuity side by side with the new one like they did Pre-Crisis with Earth One and Earth Two.

Bottom line is- I ****ing hate Barry Allen more now.

you know how they could have drummed up better sales, recognition, and respect?

trust in your creators and characters and tell good stories.

doing that doesnt even begin to require doing what they are doing.

I'm sure they could, if anyone at DC were at all interested in the new continuity. It seems like no one is, except maybe Grant Morrison. I wouldn't be surprised to see all of his Batman work of the past few years remain intact, though.

Yeah but thats just gonna get better sales from 150 k who already read comics. This is so that Millions of people who like Superheros can become comic books in this new era.

Bleeding Cool understands that the DC Relaunch will also bring back a number of Wildstorm titles, as part of the new DC Universe.

Jim Lee’s Wildstorm studio and books were closed down at the end of last year, the licensed and creator owned titles shifted to DC, the staff moved to DC Digital and the Wildstorm Universe books canned. Well, it looks like several of the fifty-two issue one titles in September will be Wildstorm-related. We can probably guess Authority, Gen 13, WildCATS and the like, but I hear Grifter will also be a title.

Although finding a writer has been hard, and two have dropped off the book already

Ooh, now that sounds interesting. I hope they incorporate some of Joe Casey's ideas into that Wildcats relaunch. I would love to see Halo, Inc. become one of the major corporations in the DC universe with Hadrian as a kind of midpoint between Lex Luthor and Bruce Wayne on the badass CEO spectrum. :hehe:

I honestly have a hard time seeing how the Authority could be integrated into the DCU. They could be done as extremist vigilantes but they'd come off as jokes alongside the regular DC heroes.

Two dudes that dress up as Batman and Superman along with some other knock off superheroes and go around killing criminals doesn't really seem like something that'll work in the main DCU

Hmm, it sounds like an interesting idea in theory, but being part of the DCU? I don't see how The Authority's mindset and actions could possibly work with traditional superheroes without something giving on way or another.

yeah but lets be real here. this is gonna result in a temporary sales bump. sales will quickly level out to where they are now. and thats not worth it for what they are doing. this whole thing has nothing to do with the characters, and everything to do with pandering for money.

How do we know it's only temporary? Digital comics is a growing trend and DC is really focusing on that and Marvel has been testing it via imprints. This could make comics really huge especially with more and more people getting ipads and ipad 2s and whatnot. If it does result into a mere temporary sales bump thats a shame, because it seems they've really pushed themselves to get a good clean start for old and new fans alike.

They won't win with ipads. They need to make an affordable gadget like the Kindle.

That reminds me. I haven't seen Big in a while.

:hulk: :hulk: :hulk:

Just doesn't make sense to me. I never got a "good, clean start" when I started getting into comics. I enjoyed learning about all the stuff that had gone on before I jumped onto the various series. That's part of what made me a fan.

They're gonna combine the Wildstorm U with the DCU? Oh, that just sounds terrible.

i think the same day digital release is fantastic. i think they would have got more sales from that alone. but the reboot is still unnecessary.

this gimmick has been tried before in comics and it doesnt work. people who are intimidated by a characters history and unwilling to do a 5 minute wiki research to catch up in order to jump on to a title, will probably pick up the first few issues of this relaunch only to be re-affirmed that comics arent for them. if they wanna give new readers a jumping on point, its not hard to tell stories that arent steeped in continuity.

like i just said in another thread, they're making permanent changes to a temporary sales bump. thats not good.

Yeah, it does. I guess it could make for an interesting idea, having two different ideals clashing and such, but like I said, I don't see how you can do that with giving in one way or the other in the end.

Imma be honest with y'all if DC makes comics $2.00 or less digital they will change the industry. This is a great step but 3 dollars for a 20 page comic isn't gonna cut it with general public. You cut a dollar and release Justice League with advertising on tv or something. I guarantee that issue sells 500 k.
