That cannot be true. If you dont get new customers/clients, whats going to happen to your business when your "repeat customers" get old and die? Does your business die with them? The comics industry NEEDS new readers, i'm not sure if a reboot will do it, but something drastic needs to be done. In this day and age where superhero movies are cleaning up at the box office there's no excuse for today's top selling books to only be pushing 70k-80k a month.

well, the idea that repeat customers are better business than new customers is a proven fact of business practices. new customers are obviously integral to growing your business, but not at the expense of your repeat business.

you are assuming everyone who is currently reading the books will drop DC because of this

Thats true but again, there's only so long you can tap into that repeat clientele until you need fresh blood to keep your business afloat. Now of course you dont want to upset your established clientele but something needs to be done to bring in outsiders. Again, i dont know if this reboot is the solution but i can at least appreciate DC taking a serious approach as opposed to Marvel's "Yeah um...we have these .1 books....that'll bring in new readers right?!?". Who the f*** is going to buy a book with a ".1" on it?? Whoever in Marvel's marketing department came up with that idea needs to be fired.

Maybe I'm just being naive, but i don't see why Marvel and DC can't re-convince supermarkets and newstands to carry their products again. Their movie franchises are juggernauts at the box office, i cant imagine it'd be that hard for them to strike some sort of distribution deal with these businesses because the direct market is not working.

i like to call it the Star Trek conundrum...for the longest time Star Trek tv shows were only for trekers....and they were losing viewers...they rebooted the series and Star Trek was a hit

but i can already tell you which one of those books will end up getting cancelled after a couple arcs:
-firestorm
-hawkman
-mr. terrific
-captain atom

This is exactly what they did with COIE. It didn't work then (they were still #2) and it won't work now. DC started to fall behind Marvel in the Mid-70's and they fell behind Marvel because they stopped being themselves and tried to be more like Marvel. Why would anyone read a faux Marvel instead of reading the real thing? This is why crap like Byrne's Marvelized Superman from the 80's always fails. If I wanna read a momma's boy who runs home for milk and cookies and reassurances, I'll read the real thing in Spider-Man and not Superboy, er "Superman" with that crap forced into the equation.

They'll bring in a certain amount of new fans from this, most of who will soon lose interest and go back to reading Marvel or whatever else they were into before. And although not ALL fans of the current DCU will drop their books, a certain number of those people will be lost forever, just like it was with COIE.
I didn't quit after COIE, but I know a lot of people who did, and I myself stopped for a number of years after half of the JSA were killed in Zero Hour.

Everything sounds AWESOME!!! So Diana doesnt look so bad, Hawkan looks amazing but has the bad luck of being written by Daniel, while i'm very interested in Firestorm and Mr Terrific. Mr T does look a bit... girly to say the least. I was gonna use the other g word but i dont know if its offensive or not. You get the point though.

I'm kinda weary of Manapul writing AND drawing Flash...i mean that just seems like a recipe for disaster sschedule wise. Hasn't history proven time and time and TIME again that artists can't do both and maintain a consistent schedule? Hell Manapul couldnt keep a schedule when he was just drawing the book with Johns.
