DC Relaunching Everything?

Well, as I said before, I personally do not care. DC ended for me in 1986 and every thing since is apocrypha. What I would have liked was a total reboot of everything, all the characters starting 100% fresh and anything that needed to be finished, like Batman, INC, to be done on an alternate Earth.

Instead, they're going to continue Batman Inc but with Dick as Nightwing and Babs as Batgirl and who knows what's up with Damien, while Superman will be wearing this horrendous 1990's costume and will never had been married to Lois, etc. It's going to be a huge, huge mess.

The last panel of Flashpoint should have been Jor-El and Lara launching the rocket before Krypton explodes. The first panel of the new Action #1 should be Jonathan and Martha finding the rocket. Superman should be the first hero again, and JLA shouldn't appear for another 6 months. They want to start fresh, they should start totally fresh. Instead they are doing just what they did after COIE-trying to have their cake and eat it too. They didn't learn from their mistake, but I can't say I'm surprised.

'Kay, whatevs. :o

So, now that we know DC has apparently been planning to relaunch everything at once for a while, it kind of makes me wonder: How many s***ty recent stories have been the result of DC just approving whatever to tread water until the relaunches? How many Bart-then-Wally-when-Barry-was-coming-back-all-along situations are we really looking at here?

Grounded and Odyssey...it makes so much sense now...

you are assuming. Just because there is a Nightwing book doesnt mean its Dick and the Babs as Batgirl is a rumor that has yet to be confirmed as is the single Superman.

They did Doctor 13 together, which was outlandish compared to virtually anything else. But also unbelievably awesome. I'm a big fan of Chiang in general, so I'm fine with him. Azzarello's a bit of an oddball choice, but then again, the last great Wonder Woman writer had a big crime fiction background too (Greg Rucka, if that really needs to be spelled out). Could be a stroke of genius... or it could be so terrible it'll give me a stroke. Either way, I want to see it.

I will read the first few issues and if i like it i will buy it

But i be skeptical whether it will be any good

Who the hell is Gypsy?

Also, notice how Ice's midriff is gone, Vixen has no cleavage and so on. Booster's suit is a disaster.

Those costumes are lousy and boring :csad:

Btw Misty, Simone will be writing Firestorm.

I have no interest in Firestorm so I wont be buying that

Disapointed. I hoped she would be writing something interesting

Yep Azzarello seems like a weird choice for the writer of Wonder Woman

They cut Brian Clevinger from Firestorm and gave it to Gail Simone? Weird.

True, just rumors at this point. As I said before, I don't really care. DC has been a mess and a joke since 1986 and they are so far removed from what they were when they last were the #1 comics company in the early 70's that they'll never get back there. The more important aspects of this move is the digital comics and the price drop to 1.99 after four weeks and the returnable books and how all of this will affect the direct market. The plan to expand the exposure of their books online and through retailers like Barnes and Noble are all good ideas.

But if the plan is to bring in new readers by starting fresh, then they should go all out and start totally new. So when you see Joker or Robin in the new continuity, it should be their first appearance in this new continuity. It would be like the Ultimate Universe but it would be replacing the old DCU. They could get away with this because while the 616 Marvel has been more or less a continual continuity since FF#1, DC's coherent and continual continuity ended with COIE and the Universe they've went with since has went through constant changes and has never really made much sense. They've got less to lose because they threw it all away 25 years ago anyway.

Folks, as you wonder and wait for the new series announcements to unfold, I just wanted to let you know that we are spending an extraordinary amount of time and energy to reinvigorate our line of characters and bring the best books possible for the widest audience possible. Sorry if anyone is feeling disenfranchised, especially since that's not the intent. Quite the opposite, we are trying to create a place and story where older fans can point for new fans to start, whether in periodical, graphic novel or digital. A place where everyone can share in the excitement of the DC Universe.
As the saying goes, if it ain't broke, don't fix it, and there are a lot of great things that don't need fixing. But we're also saying that we will not stand idly by and let series run on inertia and let the industry fade around us. All of us here at DC love the form and the characters way too much for that.

Tomorrow we begin filling you in on all the excitement we have planned, plenty of real news to talk about and it's time for everyone to join in the fun.

best,
DD

"Its a relaunch not a reboot"

Except prior to that, Bob Wayne also states that "this is the launch of the New DCU." What I'm reading from that is that, this relaunch and re-numbing isn't altering the current DCU, which what a "reboot" would be; this sounds like he's saying it's an entirely new DCU with it's own separate continuity.

It would be great imo if they started an actual Young Justice book that was part of the main DCU since there are plenty of teen heroes to take up 2 books.

If you're talking about the TV's Young Justice, it's been given it's own earth.
Earth-16 is only about Young Justice, Tv and comics.

Which is amazing when one considers the pace at which they love to kill teen heroes.

"Here kids, read our comics where most anyone your age can and will get brutally killed!"

I better be hearing something about J'onn soon. :cmad:

Simone was :awesome: writing Birds of Prey i loved that series with so much love

I doubt I will be buying it now she isn't writing it

I dont know why they take her off the title only to bring her back to the title when it is relaunched only to relaunch it again and take her off again. She better be writing something besides cowriting Firestorm.

How is this not a reboot?

Wow, that's what was wrong with Lee's JLA picture. F***ing Cyborg instead of the Martian Manhunter. :o

:csad:

I mean, I actually rather enjoy Cyborg and don't mind him on the team, but him being in the core seven instead of MM? :nono:

Well....they've got to have a minority on the team somewhere. lol

Kind of makes you wonder why they bothered bringing J'onn back. Although I suppose we have to wait (and, since it's Lee, wait and wait and wait some more...) and see whether that promo pic features the full roster or just part of it. J'onn might still be there.

It's already been said that there are 14 core-members.
