Anyone collect these? They are the DC equivalent of the Marvel Essentials (which I collect as well). Once I got use to the classic 50's/60's DC style, I loved reading them. So far I have picked up the first volumes of Superman, Green Lantern and Batman. They are possible even thicker than the Essentials, they take a loooong time to read-! Plus they seem to be published a lot faster.

I'm looking forward to picking up Superman vol 2 and House of Mystery.

This is the first volume of JLA and the second is published in January.

i Don't particularly collect them because I find them a bit more expensive than they should be, however I do buy quite a number of them and really love that DC are now publishing these archives.

I'm glad that I saw this thread because I've been meaning to buy the Showcase Batman book. I saw it about a month and a half ago and didn't have the money at the time. Now that I have 65 bucks in gift certificates for my local comic shop I've got a lot of stuff to get.

This will be it.

And I agree...the Showcase books seem a LOT more thick than the Essentials.

They're not a lot more thick. The average Showcase or Essential is 500 pages.

Weren't these things around 10 bucks? I just picked up the Shazam one on sale and it had a cover price of $17.

I can't belive you guys are saying "more thick" than "thicker" :cwink:

Some of the original ones were $10, sort of an introductory price...I think I found the first volumes of Supes and GL for $10 a pop.

I'm really lovin' these so far. I didn't know that JLA Vol. 2 was already out - I'll need to pick that up ASAP. I still want to grab Batman, GA, and Teen Titans as well.

Also looking forward to Aquaman and Hawkman books, too...

So far, I've got the first volumes of Superman, Green Lantern, Shazam!, and JLA, and I want all of those as well...damn! Too many to buy. :(

I'm cool with the lack of color. It comes third after writing and art. I'd rather spend 16 bucks on twenty issues worth of story, than spend nearly 50 bucks on half that.

I bought Showcase Presents: Hawkman, Vol. 1 a couple of months ago. It cost me $14. I'm not a huge collector, though...I was just looking for some classic stories and art for this character. I've only gotten around to reading a small portion of it, but I love it.

Wow, I need to pick up the Showcase of Hawkman and the Flash. They're coming out with a Suicide Squad volume! I hope they do a Showcase of the Doom Patrol.

How was the Green Lantern Showcase? And do you think Geoff Johns current depiction of Hal is accurate? I'm only familiar with Hal from Rebirth and up, even though I bought Emerald Dawn and Emerald Twilight, I don't think its enough resources to be able to really know the character well.

Actually, they delayed the Suicide Squad showcase. They havent given us another release date.

Jonah Hex, Suicide Squad, Captain Carrot, Atomic Knights and Secret Society of Supervillains were all delayed.
