DC's Definitive Joker origin

Wow. If I was considering getting this before, assuming this cover is some of what we'll be seeing, I'm going to skip this for sure. That's probably one of the uglier covers I've seen in a while.

BATMAN CONFIDENTIAL #8

Art and cover by Denys Cowan & John Floyd
Part 2 of a 6-part Joker tale written by Michael Green (TV’s Heroes)! Batman crosses paths once again with the punk who will become his deadliest foe — The Joker — in a Gotham City that seems to be increasingly more deadly and psychotic.

I've seen fan art better than that. Way way way better.

If DC was to make a definitive Joker origin it shouldn't go into the hands of Batman Confidential. ASB&R was written to be intentionally bad--but Michael Green & Co. have no idea how much they suck.

Stop whining is all I can say.
Seriously... this past week all I've been hearing were crybabies crying and crying not getting what they want when it came to the Joker.

I'm going to have a blast with this arc.
Killing Joke was good but I think it's overrated.
It's not even his real origin so why should it be?
Accept what you get and try to have an open mind.
I'm giving this a shot like I do with everything.

You masochist.

You'd whine, too, if someone forced you to eat your own sh**, which is what Confidential is.

i actually kinda dig some of the line work going on in that drawing....the coloring isnt helping though.

I have no interest in this series.

However, I'd be very interested in seeing Grant Morrison's take on a Joker origin.

The kinda cool thing about Grant is, his Joker origin, is prolly the one originally presented in the 50s.

He's like one of the two Batman fans in the world that actually look at the silver age with appreciation. :o

You have a point there. Morrison loves to synthesize all of Batman history.

Why is Batman's right eye on the side of his head?

hey, i didnt say all of it was good! im just saying, theres some interesting and fun line work going on in some areas. its kind of like a failed attempt at a sinkiewicz style (i.e. spastic scratchy lines)....and though failed in its goal, still not all that terrible.

Has anyone read this thing yet?

What's the deal? Spoil.

Man, what the hell happened to Denys Cowan??I was planning on checkingthis out just for Cowan's art, but if this is what it's going to look like, count me out.

Yes.

It's the only story that delved into his background, and fit in nicely with the Red Hood origin. It's not set in stone that it's exactly what happened to him, as Joker himself said he remembers his past differently all the time.

Killing Joke also doesn't make up BS like the Hush Returns story did.

actually, the Hush Returns origin should be the in continuity one, as the Riddler witnessed parts of it

^ yep let's say again...it's not a rewrite, cuz it was never written

Anyone who's actually read this care to fill us in?

i'm all for elseworld explanations of joker's origin, since god gave us that option in TKJ, but for the love of mercy, get somebody better than These hacks- u were right- i've seen Way better fan art (maybe not a lotta sequential work, mostly just cool poses, but still)- these guys come off like amateurs- seriously, i wish they'd hand batsconfidential over to matt wagner. least we know he can draw and write early batstories. this is Painful. i quit after the 1st issue. this crap should come on the back of a cereal box or as the insert to a figure with 2 points of articulation, just so it never gets read.
