Iconography, lol. Ask Joe Public and they won't know who Domino is.

They will after the movie.

I 100% do not care about the changes to Domino's look. This sort of reminds me of the whole Joker is not perma-white in TDK debate. Ultimately, it is trivial.

What does this have to do with anything?

In Joker's case it was trivial. Because he still looked 100% like Joker.

The Grandmaster in Thor: Ragnarok doesn't have his "iconic" blue skin from the comics. Do I care? No.

Kane, could I please get this in avy form?

You said the look was part of her ''iconography''...i.e. that the look is ''iconic''. That's a huge stretch.

To say that she is ''unrecognizable'' from her comic book counterpart is false.

Agreed. Basically all they changed was inverting the color scheme on her skin and changing her hair. I still recognize this as Domino, though. Much like Jeff Goldblum with non-blue skin still looks like the Grandmaster to me.

I think you don't understand the meaning of the word.

I stand by my opinion that iconography needs to be respected. Just because she's a lesser known character doesn't mean I have to embrace their experiments.Perhaps for you.

Experiments? It is adding some needed diversity to these franchises, and it "changes" a character who never had a natural skin palate to begin with anyway.

The point is this is a minor character, and all of five people probably care about her "iconography." Just as the Nick Fury change was welcomed, this too is a good thing and might change the way people imagine the character, as well as how she is depicted in the future.

Apparently you don't. Because iconography has nothing to do with how recognizable something by GA or not.

Iconography: ''The visual images, symbols, or modes of representation collectively associated with a person, cult, or movement. The iconography of pop culture''.

Pop Culture: ''Modern popular culture transmitted via the mass media and aimed particularly at younger people. Fashion, music, and the iconography of pop culture offered the perfect medium for profit''.

Correct on this point. But, the definitions are:

i·co·nog·ra·phy
noun
1.
the visual images and symbols used in a work of art or the study or interpretation of these.
2.
a collection of illustrations or portraits.

In this case, we are basically dealing with definition 1, the images and symbols used to make the work. The thing is, she still has the mark on the eye and assassin gear (even the cleavage was kept). Yes, they inverted the color scheme, but the overall look was still preserved (outside the hair).

Comic Domino: unnaturally chalk white skin with a black spot around the eye
Movie Domino: natural brown skin with a white spot around the eye

This is not how you invert a color scheme, this is how you save money if you're too cheap to buy some bodypaint. :o

Peter looks majestic.
Lol. He does.

To me movie Domino looks like alt version skin of the character you would select in Marvel vs Capcom :hehe: which I can see as being annoying to people who wanted the character to look like she does in the comics. There's really nothing wrong with that but I can't really fault the filmmakers if they felt like Beetz was the best person for the job and adapted the character to best suit her.

It's also possible that they never cared to be super faithful and wanted to experiment.

Loved the new trailer. So many hilarious moments, but the best one's were easily the DC joke and Peter at the end lol. The action sequences in this look pretty amazing as well. Definitely a BIG step up from the first.

To me it looks like they saw Domino as a perfect victim for the joke. So they can add diversity with a "clever" take on the character.

Well geez, Tom Hardy's Bane didn't look all that much like the comic book version. I guess he was BINO and Jeep Swenson is the ONE TRUE BANE!!!!

You see, something tells me if The Joker was played by Asian or Black actor with a giant green afro Doink the clown style, A LOT of people would be flipping cars (I hope I didn't mess the grammar too much)... But with Domino it's suddenly fine, because oh my god diversity and and not many people will care.

I don't think race really matters for the Joker. At the end of the day, he is a sadistic clown. Clowns are not race specific. So yeah, if they cast a black Joker, I wouldn't care.

And they have...

Kevin Michael Richardson voiced The Joker in The Batman.

I didn't even want to bring race into this, because ultimately I don't care about race either. But to me it looked like certain posters suggest celebrating the new look of Domino because of diversity and that alone validates it and should be embraced.
