It would easily be the most profitable at that number. DoFP actually wasn't as profitable as many think.

Or because you keep believing that Deadline's profit report which didn't even get TSM2's profit report right?

A $75 opening weekend seems crazy high for an R rated February release featuring a relatively obscure character

He's not obscure. He already appeared in a X-Men film before, appeared in cartoons/videogames and even got a solo videogame. Not obscure.

I don't think that appearance in that movie really does this movie any favors. But he's not the most obscure characters at the moment. And honestly, being obscure or not means jacks*** in box office terms and to the general audience.

I don't think anyone knew Peter Quill before 2014.

Relatively obscure. That's the phrase I used. Relatively obscure. Among comic book fans it doesn't apply. But until this movie's marketing push GP awareness for Deadpool was very light. And yes, that is not dissimilar to Thor, Iron Man, etc.

Video games, Ultimate Spider-Man, Hulk VS, trending with the most popular you tubers etc. He's had alot of exposure outside of the people subscribing to his comics. Marvel has pushed his merchandise very heavily with teens over the past few years, most of whom just like him cause he's troll and looks cool.

X-Men Origins definitely helped move things forward. If not for that films backlash on how he was treated and people actually liking Reynolds as Wade this film would have never happened. Deadpool's mainstream popularity and Marvels over marketing for him started right around that time. It was no coincidence that both Fox and Marvel took notice then.

That's actually true. And around the time I got into Deadpool. Actually thanks to you guys. I was wondering what all that backlash was and read the first two mini-series and the Joe Kelly stories... and I was hooked!

Same here, basically. I remember at the time when I went to see XMOW I didn't know a lot about Deadpool but the basics, and I remember being distinctly disappointed by the ending. But at the same time it made me a bigger fan of the character & I always hoped a more faithful live adaption with Reynolds would surface...never thought it would actually happen, though. :D

So I was right, X-Men Origins: Wolverine despite its quality and portrayal of Deadpool.... it did make Deadpool more known to the mainstream and non-comic book readers.

After the character was announced to appear in Origins it definitely jump started Deadpool awareness in just about every area of media. From movies and social media, to comics and video games. Deadpool went from 1 comic and practically no merch from 00-08, to about 30 titles between 08-15 and being one of Marvel's top sellers with merchandise.

That's awesome you went to Kelly first.

Yeah, this is an important film for Fox to score big with given the final product is awesome. They gave passionate fans full reign with production and marketing. The studio needs to know that when you hire people that know why these characters are great that they will benefit.

You guys think this will be no 1 opening weekend? I personally think Zoolander will take the no 1 spot.

Zoolander will be pushing 30 m.

DP is looking at above 40 m.

The box office has not been kind to comedy sequels a decade+ after the first film.

Deadpool should definitely get the top spot! Just for its buzz alone!

Awesome :up::up:

So First Class and Wolverine opening numbers.

That would be spectacular.

EDIT: Wait, first for females? How does that happen?

Well yeah I mean since when do Women not like to laugh and watch fun movies? Deadpool has a good percentage of female fans. Lady Deadpools a plenty at cons.

A lot of the number being thrown around for the weekend seem to around 50-70. If it can come anywhere near that this movie is going to be a very profitable for Fox. I'm a bit cautious still though, but I want it to do very well.

$50 million in 3 days for a $65 million film. Thats a sequel guaranteed.

if tracking holds it should defently hit 100 million domesticly and could pass it.

Do you guys think there will be a mid-post credit scene to tease X-Men Apocalypse similar to TASM2's mid-credit scene when that film teased Days of Future Past?

There's probably some sort of bonus scene that has something they didn't want to leak. Apocalypse would be the obvious thing to do from a marketing perspective, but given the timeline it would really be better to lead in to Wolverine, Gambit, or the Deadpool sequel.

It would be kinda hilarious (and very Deadpool) if they did a parody of the infamous Iron Man stinger with Cable in the Nick Fury role.

Nice to hear about the tracking hope this movie will be good and gets a sequel

No. I expect the post credit scene to be Deadpool mocking the audience.

I would almost guess Gambit, simply because they need to do *some* marketing for it eventually, and its ( theoretically ) only nine months out, with *nothing* yet.
