Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool earned a record $47.5 on Friday, putting in course for a estimated three-day gross of $117 million and four-day haul of $130 million over the long Valentine's Day/Presidents Day weekend — among the top 10 comic book openings of all time and the biggest ever for an R-rated title.
Damn... that's some big money right there.
:chd:

Could somebody please let BladeX in again? :D

So far that movie mainly had bad buzz though.

Actually, not really, if you count out complaints from die-hard fans such as "I don't want Gambit, I want X-Men". So far, it's just taking them more time than initally planned because of the director's switch (and something similar happened to Deadpool early on, as well, as Robert Rodriguez passed on the project and Adam Berg was in talks before they signed Tim Miller to direct). But them taking their time and releasing the movie in 2017 instead of this year is a good sign. And that movie has a star and producer which seems to be at least half as passionate about the character as Ryan Reynolds is about Deadpool. That project's cool in my book. Great star, great director (Doug Liman may have been hit or miss in the past, but he more than made up with Edge of Tomorrow). I'm pumped to see their take on Gambit.

And get banned in China? Nah not worth the R rating.

Deadpool is obviously going to cleansweep domestically, but it's currently wait and see internationally, lets not forget that American Sniper did a staggering $300M+ domestically but not so much internationally.

Hell if Deadpool has an overall gross of $700M then every studio making cbm are going to start considering R rated.

You have seen the reports that Deadpool is setting records internationally, right?

And remember, this is without any 3D, though it does have Imax.

Also, I find it hard for Gambit to have any buzz at all when it hasn't even started filming yet. It's mainly been criticism of the budget, which I find a bit weird.

20th Century Fox is off to a great start. The Revenant, Kung Fu Panda 3, now Deadpool, and they have yet have to release X-Men: Apocalypse, Independence Day: Resurgence, the new Ice Age, and Assassin's Creed, which could be a huge hit as much as it could be a letdown (time will tell, but I have faith in that project with the talent attached).

This movie is gonna have a bigger opening than any of the X-Men films?:funny: The movie deserved it. It wasn't ashamed of source material and fully embraced it and it has paid off.

It has a great and passionate team at its helm, and a studio which left them alone (except for slashing $7m off the budget before giving them green light). You can embrace the comics as much as you want, but without a smart team to elevate it and put together a well-done movie, even that means absolutely nothing!

Crazy, they will recoup their costs of making the film in one weekend.

I'm so happy for Ryan.

This movie deserves every dollar it's making. Expect many Deadpool sequels in the future! :D

Yeah ... And believe it, even I doubt it that Apocalypse will have that big opening like Deadpool is having...

Except that a lot of people were sceptical about Channing Tatum to begin with, though people seem to be warming up to him, there were also early stories that he was going to walk. There is also the director switch and the completely overblown budget. None of this is really 'weird' but it doesn't really make for a great first impression.

Damn, that 4 day total would definitely put more pressure on Apocalypse to perform. :dpl:

Not every comic book movie needs to be R rated. Deadpool had the perfect lightning in a bottle marketing campaign that was true to the character. Very few characters would be able to pull it off with similar results.

A-freakin' men! Such a breath of fresh air.

I was surprised by how crowded my 9pm showing was last night. parking was tougher than starwars lol

 I hope that's what FOX will learn from Deadpool's success too. No more Flopt4stics!

Ryan Reynolds was fresh off X-Men Origins: Wolverine when they started working the script, and then went on to star in Green Lantern, and got (undeserved) hate on the web.

It was the script and test footage leak which won most fans over. Only God knows if the $150m budget for Gambit is overblown, or if they simply tell a much bigger story than anyone thinks.

People not liking Channing Tatum is up to everyone's opinion (I'm rooting for the guy since 21 Jump Street), the surprise success of Magic Mike has also shown that he's a pretty competent producer. And the director's switch happened way early in development, and allows Doug Liman to make the project his own.

Fox not rushing it into production with a filmmaker who just signed on is a good sign.

They have yet to start filming. Unless there are huge problems during production and post, I don't see it actually being in a bad spot.

I suppose I can't argue with any of those points. We'll see how it goes down the line. :)

Only time will tell. But honestly, I always hope for the best, especially if talented people are involved. :)

Yeah... I really want it to be good as well. Can't wait until we get to see a bit more and hope doesn't disappoint. :)
