Deadpool & Wolverine Deadpool & Wolverine News and General Discussion Thread

I dont see FF or BNW making a billion. I think Marvel needs to be happy if FF can exceed Quantumania numbers and BNW I think they are looking for L&T numbers
No, absolutely not to either making a billion (I'm even on the fence about Deadpool, honestly), especially given the Fantastic Four's history on screen. Those are good comparisons and yeah, Marvel Studios would probably be happy if movies just did reasonable numbers.

I watched the Reel Rejects reaction/review, and it got me SO hyped for the movie. I'm still spoiler-free, so I'll see you all on the other side. I'm staying off the internet. Enjoy!

Deadpool has built in brand security, but it does make 2025 interesting with Brave New World and Fantastic Four.
And Thunderbolts*.

The thing about 2025 MCU movies is they aren't the typical sequels to previous MCU movies

Brave New World - follow up to a streaming series, first film to have Sam Wilson as a lead
Thunderbolts* - has a roster made up of MCU supporting characters
Fantastic 4 - 2nd film reboot in almost 10years and F4 aren't that popular with the general audience

I think Disney should be enjoying the success they'll get this year, because those three aren't an easy sell. I don't think I'd see Deadpool & Wolverine today, because the weather has been terrible since Monday and it doesn't seem to be getting better.

Dan Murrell definitely hit on something I agree with. This isn't a cure-all for the MCU. It's not a movie that fixes all the problems for the recent films, but on its own, it's a fun highly entertaining film.

Most of what's depicted in Deadpool & Wolverine had its groundwork laid in frelling Loki! Haha!

We were basically lied to for years about the costumes. The costumes work. They always did. Studios, executives, and filmmakers who don't understand these characters lied to us for decades.

Are you talking about the X-Men, or in general?

Either way, Spider-Man already proved this 22 years ago.

X-Men, Marvel Netflix, The Punisher, Fantastic Four, Daredevil, and numerous others. Here's the showrunner of Season 3 of Daredevil:

Yet, “I love Daredevil,” he says. “I’m able to steer this ship towards very deep waters. And that show, I guess the one lesson I drew is that superhero outfits don’t look that great in daylight.”

Again, I'd have to say if there was any "lying" going on, it was already obvious when 2 years after X1, we got a live action Spidey looking very much like he stepped out of a comic book.

I wouldn't necessarily claim anyone was "lying", more like certain people were going for a certain vision, and felt the comic book outfits didn't fit into that. A Wolverine who wears yellow and blue fits the world of the MCU. Bryan Singer's X-Men? Not so much.

Luckily, we've seen numerous examples of comic accurate suits from 2002 until now.

I guess when you cite Fantastic Four, you mean the 2015 version, because the '05-'07 version wore blue spandex suits.

I'm OK with saying lying. Once again you have the showrunner of Daredevil saying the suits don't look good in daylight. Lies.

Deadpool & Wolverine and Daredevil couldn't be more different, tonally. What works for one is a disaster for the other. The costuming in this movie works perfectly for the tone they're going for. These costumes in X2, especially the stuff that isn't in the trailers? Hell no.

I know. It's better. Let's also keep in mind the X-Men films have teased cooler costumes before and then drop them just as quickly.

X2 is a much better film, it's true :o There's a time and place for everything, and now's the time for these designs. The cowl isn't particularly well designed though, it looks both entirely CGI and like an ill-fitting cosplay helmet at the same time, and it does Hugh zero favors. Whoever ends up wearing the cowl in the MCU proper (and I do want him to wear the cowl), it better be of much higher quality.

No, I mean Deadpool & Wolverine.

The time and place is now. And the time and place didn't happen before because we were gaslit by studios and executives for years.

I was really trying to avoid getting too overhyped for this, and I loved it. And I absolutely hate and loathe Multiverse shenanigans. I think the reason I was OK with it and I enjoyed it was because it was done through Deadpool, so all the manic lunacy sort of works.

The movie is very kooky and irreverent. It works though because it's a Deadpool story and Deadpool can get away with this level of irreverence and basically clowning on everyone. Nothing is sacred for Deadpool. NOTHING.

There are lots of tributes to the pre-MCU Marvel era, which I think longtime fans will enjoy. It also shows that Marvel Studios and Disney are willing to allow Deadpool to take the piss so to speak. They use Deadpool to make fun of themselves and their past mistakes and failures. And the overall message is about how are past failures and tragedies make us who we are and how we can overcome them.
Good to hear. It is convenient that Feige got Deadpool to use as a vehicle for this stuff. He’s kind of a unique character in this respect as you can get away with anything in his films.

It's kind of like what James Gunn did with Peacemaker and DC.

I think the problem is that sometimes Marvel veers too tonally comedic for certain things because they want to keep that bright happy fun style that's worked for them before. And sometimes they take it too far, like the kittens thing in the Marvels.

But like in Deadpool, wild fourth-wall-breaking irreverence works perfectly, so the more mayhem the better.

I wasn’t expecting Deadpool to go beyond 3 films but now that it’s in the MCU maybe they keep it around for that unique stuff it can do with the universe, poking at everything with no regard for CBM norms and unique comedy. :D

They could always make a Deadpool Corps movie ;)
