This is going to be this years Valkyria Chronicles. No, I don't mean it'll be a pleasent water-colour style adventure, I mean its going to be a fantastic game that most gamers won't know about.

So what is it?

This is a super hardcore, super difficult action RPG for PS3. You play a warrior storming a creepy castle in true dungeon crawler fashion. Bosses are massive and twisted, the atmosphere is as moody as it gets, and the gameplay can be as deep as you want it to be.

There's a great interview that gives insights into mutliplayer etc.

If you want to call yourself a true gamer, buy this game (and Valkyria Chronicles) when it comes out in the Fall.

I thought that came out a good while ago. Oh wait, this is coming out in Europe and the States? How about that, cool

Yeah, confirmed at E3, though Sony didn't bother to show any of this uber-cool game in its hour long montages. I'm so happy its hitting this year.

Although a European version is yet to be announced, I'm still happy to import.

Some reviews for the game so far:

Eurogamer - 9

PSW - 9

PixelVerdict - 5/5

OPM UK - 8

(Reviews of the Asian version,, I should have added).

There's a good review of this at RPGFan.

It sounds like a really interesting game. Though probably not my taste. It would probably have a lot of appeal for masochistic gamers that enjoy highly difficult games. The main thing that caught my eye was that the "co-op" sounds really unique. I don't plan on buying this, but I do want to play it, so I might just rent it or something.

Though the review is a positive one I have to say I really didn't care much for a lot of the things I read in it. I'm all for challenging games (in fact I prefer a nice bit of challenge in games), but I honestly don't care much for the idea of making a game so incredibly hard it seems unbeatable (as the review more or less says). Seems like that would just devolve into endless level grinding, which I definitely do not care for in the least.

I'll probably still give it a chance, but that review made it sound like something I personally wouldn't enjoy

I know what you mean, but I see it more as a very long term purchase in that case. Something I only play for an hour this week, then spend all my time on it the next, then don't play it at all the week after etc until I finally get to the end.

I dont think Ive even heard of this game. Not a good thing especially if it will launch soon

That is a good thing though. You don't have to hear about it for it to be a good game. Think about all the amazing JRPGs and Indy games that slip under our noses every day without us thinking. Hype is a dangerous thing my friend, just because a game's getting the spotlight, doesn't mean its great, ala Assassin's Creed.

No one had heard of a little game named ICO before it came out, and Demon's Souls is appealing to the most hardcore of gamer, which is why it won't interest a lot of people and get covered as much.

That is one way of looking at and, like I said, I do enjoy challenge in video games, but there is a limit. According to that RPGFan review, most enemies will kill you in 2 or 3 hits and the first boss kills 99% of all players in 1 hit. Seems to me like that's just silly hard and will just result in endless level grinding, which can always kill me on games in seconds (hence why I haven't been able to play most of the Dragon Quest games I've played).

I mean I will give it a chance, but I can't say all of that stuff sounds too appealing to me.

I've always made games as hard as I can though. You can die in 1 hit in RE5 Professional, but I still sold out my inventory completely and started from scratch. Completing this will feel more like an achievement than completeing other games I think.

If you're into it that's fine and all, but that kind of thing was one of the main reasons I found it hard to get into the NES/SNES era of gaming. I know we tend to have the reverse problem now, but I prefer challenging (Ninja Gaiden, Street Fighter, Devil May Cry) as opposed to so crippling hard you can never succeed (Battletoids, Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts).

haha, I know what you mean. I guess I've never faced THAT much of a challenge... apart from maybe World at War on veteran.

No its not a good thing. I dont have to have heard about it for it to be a good game, but I do in order to buy it. It cant sell well if people dont even know iabout it. Had this thread not been created, I probably would have never even thought of it. There hasnt been any hype for it and I havent seen many media outlets covering it. It'll most likely slip under the radar with people not knowing it was even released.

Well, it's being released by Atlus, and their games usually get similar treatment from a hype point. In the end, I'm sure their name will at least sell it on Atlus's usually niche level.

My friend imported it because the Chinese version has all English text and voices. Its a hardcore game the level cap is over 400 lol. its a hard game you die a lot but its fun.

Oh man I cannot wait.

I hope a European release gets confirmed soon. :(

That WAS awesome... until they said no plans for an EU release. :(

Man! I missed that part. Sorry dude. :csad:

I bet you will import it anyways, right?

Yeah, heck I'll probably go for that cool edition too. Wonder if it'll work on the NA servers.

LOVE the avy btw.
