PlayStation 4 rumors

Ummm...what the hell are you talking about? The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 have about the same amount of games and the same amount of great exclusive games.

The Wii on the other hand...the vast majority of those games are nothing but shovelware garbage. Nothing to be really proud of.

There is a difference between having exclusives and having good exclusives and in regards to that Xbox 360 trumps the PS3 on having good exclusives. Most of the good games on the PS3 are multi, sure the PS3 has promising exclusives supposedly coming out but for now there is only a handful.

The only change I would care about is size. The PS2 slim is great because of its small size (barely bigger than a DVD case).

The PS3 is such a ridiculously bulky, heavy console.

I'm way past complaining about a console's size. As long as it's not too big to occupy the same size shelf as my other media components, then I really can't complain much. It's not like a Gameboy where you drag it everywhere you go. I've rarely heard people complain about the size of their DVD player or VCR, so I don't see why it should matter that the PS3 or Xbox 360 takes up a similar amount of shelf space.

Having only recently bought a PS3 and not followed the current gen consoles except the Wii these past 3 years I can only go by the selection of games I see in shops NOW. And that is vastly skewed in favour of the 360 and Wii.

Quantity doesnt equal quality. Of those large number of Wii games over the past 2 and a half years , how many are even worth getting? What does Nintendo even have on the horizon for the system this year? Wii Play's sequel? Its large number of great games starts to dwindle once you look past the number and actually consider what its putting out

Why do you think I traded my Wii for the PS3? lol. But it still doesn't mean the PS3 is great for variety. Of what I see available it's heavily tailored to the hardcore gamer who mainly plays fps's. If that's not your thing you don't have that much choice compared to what I can pick off the shelves for the other systems.

For every good exclusive the Xbox 360 has, the PlayStation has one as well. With Halo 3 and Halo 3: ODST you have Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2. With Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts you have the superior LittleBigPlanet. With Gears of War you have Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. With Gears of War 2 you have God of War III With Project Gotham Racing 3 you have Gran Turismo 5.

Whatever.

I can't say what you guys haven't already, but it's still surprising to see the "PS3 has no good games" argument. I guess it's all up to taste tho, because to me it's the opposite. I look at the Wii and see tons of shovelware, quantity but not quality. That's not to say the Wii doesn't have quality games, they do (Zelda, Mario, etc.), it's just that for every Zelda there's 20x that of games like Wii Babies and Cooking. As for the 360, I recognize it has good games, they're just not good for me. Halo, and Gears just aren't for me.

PS3 on the other hand I think did some good long term this gen. They created a ton of good first party game series this gen. Uncharted is (IMO) the best 'NEW' first party series this gen period. Uncharted will have many sequels I'm sure, even on the PS4. LBP and MGS4 IMO are unrivaled in their particular genres this gen. Wipeout, Gran Turismo, and Motorstorm are the best racers IMO as well. Resistance 2 and Warhawk are up there with CoD4 as the 3 best FPS on consoles this gen.

Sony really upped their first party efforts this gen and deserve to be applauded for it. IMO, they surpassed both Microsoft (which is becoming less and less dependent on first party efforts) and Nintendo (which is focusing more on casual games) in that category now.

IA on both counts

I hope they price this thing more reasonably than the PS3. And I hope I can opt to get it w/o any fancy shmancy Blu-Ray player or whatever's popular at the time. I just want to play video games.

I think so, unfortunately
The only reason why BR was expensive was bc it is a new technology. Prices have fallen drastically since it was first introduced 2 years ago. By the time the PS4 comes, price attributed to BR really wont be much of a factor. Its a given that the PS4 will contain BR and Sony doesnt really have any reason not to use it bc it wil provide too many advantages over DVD format

I'm sure something new and equally expensive will be popular when the PS4 is launched and they'll just have to include it :whatever:

lol...I dont think so. The only reason why BR was in the PS3 bc Sony was a huge investor in the technology. It would be counterproductive of them to abandon it in favor of something new, especially when it is picking up. The main advantage BR has over DVD is the increased storage space. We are talking about 50gb vs 8.5gb. BR is future proof for a while bc there's development for even bigger capacities such as 100gb and more. I dont envision games needing anywhere near that much within the next 3-5 or so years when the PS4 is launched

This new thing doesn't have to compete with or replace the BR capabilities. It could be a Blu-Ray burner, or an internal wireless router, or a garage door opener. Basically some BS that I'm not going to want lol :cmad:

lol...oh ok, I gotcha

Take the extra $200 that the new tech will add to the price of the console and give me that much worth of free games. Ha, I could get down with that

I get what you mean CS, but I doubt it. The PS1 and 2 were both reasonably priced, the high price only started with the PS3. I think Sony learned this gen, they lost their first place slot in the next gen fight, they won't repeat the same mistake.

BR was a future investment. There already have been games (MGS4) that have used massive amounts of data, and wouldn't have worked quite right on DVD's. I couldn't imagine another gen with DVD even being possible without drastically holding back next next gen gaming potential. If PS3 hadn't had introduced BR, it'd be just as expensive in the PS4.

Also, the PS1 introduced CD to consoles. The PS2 switched to DVD. The PS3 was just keeping in line with previous jumps forward. However BR's too new to make another jump, no way do they switch again. I can't see any new capabilties being added that the PS3 didn't have, I'm guessing it'll just be a better processor, more ram, better online, basically upgrading current features and launching with a lower price.

^That's why I wish they'd hold off on the PS4 until they have some new USEFUL tech to use at it's selling point.

Same. There's currently nothing new that's happened that warrants a leap forward. I'd just release a new PS3 with a better processor and more ram at a better price or something, and hold off on an entirely new system until 2014+ or so. There's still a lot of room for the PS3 to pull in more customers.

Also, I don't think Sony can afford to move on so quickly. They spent so much money in R&R and haven't even fully made it back. The PS3's just finally earning enough to pull itself out of the hole and start paying back that debt it's creation caused.

I will say that whatever Sony researches next, they NEED to get some exclusitivity. Microsoft ended up getting a piece of the Cell when it was Sony and Toshiba that funded it to my knowledge.

I hope it's a true upgrade in gaming... right now the youtube videos and such are suggesting more 3D and possibly motion controls (probably more kinect/move type stuff) When will true VR come out...Ps5? heh

The next big step in video game technology will be real-time ray traced lighting, and I'm not sure if we have the hardware for that yet. At any rate, if they were to release a new console that doesn't have race traced lighting, I would have a hard time getting excited since it's basically going to be our current consoles, but with more polygons.

the PS4 won't be coming out anytime soon. i don't even think there's been any movement in regards to that going on within Sony.

most likely by 2014/15 we will get a PS4, and it should only come out if it will be worth getting. that means newer and better technology. right now the PS3 is at its peak and more so now because of blu ray capabilities.
