So one of the big toy companies comes to you. They say that they want YOU to design their next action figure line. However, you have some rules to follow. What do you do?
Rules:
The Figures:
1. You must have at least 2 waves designed, but no more than 4 (the success of your line is yet to be seen, so they don't want more than 4 planned).
2. There must be at least 6-8 figures per wave.
3. If you want them, there must be at least two variants.
4. The figures cannot be bigger than Juggernaut.
5. You may have a BAF, accessories, swappable body parts. You need some sort of pack in.
6. Keep in mind, however, that the bigger a figure is, the less and smaller accessories/BAF piece/etc they can come with. For instance, HML2 Thor comes with just Blob's head. Also, if you have a big figure, another figure in the wave is going to have to be smaller. So if you have Hulk and Juggernaut, you'll probably have to have Puck and Wolverine as two other figures.
7. Character specific accessories like Thor's hammer count as part of the figure, not the accessory.
8. You must have a combination of obscure, popular, and fan-demanded figures. (Example: an ML wave with Spider-Man (popular), Fan Demanded (Black Bolt), Obscure (Squirrel Girl) )
9. Figures must be in either a 4", 5", or 6" scale.
10. If you go a BAF route, the BAF cannot be taller than Onslaught. If you go a build a vehicle or build-a-set route, the vehicle can not be bigger than say, one of Spider-Man's cars that are always taking up shelf space. If you go the build-a-set route, these are massive and will take a lot of plastic, so keep that in mind.
11.There must be a media tie in be it comics, movies, or TV.
12. It must appeal to collectors AND kids alike.
13. There will be no electronics or action features.
14. Consider articulation, how much? Super articulated or with some limits?
Also, in your toy line, you may have:
-3 Vehicles (Keep in mind the proportion rule. They can all be equal sized, but if you have one big one, the other two have to be smaller, or one is average and the other is really small)
-2 Playsets (Proportion rule does not apply, but these will be large and expensive. Consider if retailers will want this)
-A cheaper army builder line as a supplementary line.
And...
-Consider case ratios. 12 figures per case. 4 vehicles per case. 2 playsets per case.
You can make your figure line based on ANYTHING you want, but you have to consider the rules.
