Games Destiny 2

General Gaming Discussion
I think I've read how they wanted to focus more on the story and its characters. But back then they also said that Destiny can sit alongside Star Wars and Lord of the Rings. So yeah, they say a lot.

yeah. we'll have to see.

Back then I Pre-ordered blindly, because I was naive and trusted every word they said. Now I'll wait at least a month after release, listen for word of mouth and look up multiple reviews, to decide whether or not to purchase it.

Bungie are capable of doing it (unless they've lost the people who originally made them great - I don't know about this aspect). It's just about how determined they are to deliver and whether they've learned the right lessons from what they did wrong on the first game.

trailer looked interesting.

looks like the game will be more story heavy then?

have they said?

Based on this, I would say yes.

Key Features

  • Immersive, Cinematic Story – Humanity’s last safe city has fallen to an overwhelming invasion force, led by Ghaul, the imposing commander of the brutal Red Legion. He has stripped the city’s Guardians of their power, and forced the survivors to flee. You will venture to mysterious, unexplored worlds of our solar system to discover an arsenal of weapons and devastating new combat abilities. To defeat the Red Legion and confront Ghaul, you must reunite humanity’s scattered heroes, stand together, and fight back to reclaim our home.
  • Dramatic, Cinematic Story and Missions with Relatable Characters
    • New Worlds and Stunning Environments to Explore with Action, Adventure, and Discoverable Rewards
    • Gameplay Activities for All Types of Players: New, Returning, Casual, and Competitive
    • Competitive PvP Gameplay with New Maps and Modes
    • Customize Your Character with More Options Than Ever Before to Enhance Your Abilities
  • Destiny 2 is Available on PC – For the first time in Destiny’s history, Destiny 2 will be available on PC.
  • Join the Beta Early – Early access to the Destiny 2 beta is slated for this summer with more announcements to come later. At launch, PlayStation gamers will also receive access to timed exclusive content for Destiny 2.

Will wait for reviews to confirm the above and if they do then I'll be happy to join in very soon after launch.

Based on this, I would say yes.

sounds nice, thanks!

hopefully 2 will include a more robust Character Creator - the 1st one was kind of limited, but serviceable since the game is mostly a FPS.

but, it would be richly ironic if Destiny 2's CC ends up being more robust than MEA's.......:hehe:

Destiny 2 – “Rally the Troops” Worldwide Reveal Trailer

  • 11 hours ago2,617,994 views

Despite being one of the worst kept secrets in gaming, Destiny 2 was officially revealed to the world today, but despite the considerable excitement surrounding the game, Bungie is assuring players who may not make the jump right away that Destiny 1 (it'll be weird calling it that) is not going anywhere. Bungie's community extraordinaire, DeeJ said that "Destiny 1 is still a game that will be there for players."
DeeJ continued, "We’ve planned to support it for the foreseeable future, so while we do have a sense of finality and closure as the theme of this [Age of Triumph] event, we are by no means turning the lights off on Destiny 1."
It makes a ton of sense to keep the original Destiny running, as many players all over the world have dropped considerable cash on the game, from the $60 original price tag to its subsequent DLC's. Pulling out the rug on those investments would be a bad look for both Bungie and Activision, and it's not like either is hurting for cash at the moment.
Destiny 2 is set to release on September 8th, 2017 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Destiny 2 – “Rally the Troops” Worldwide Reveal Trailer [UK]

Last week Destiny 2 was revealed to the world alongside an epic trailer, as well as some details on various limited editions and the promise of two expansions. Now rumors have it that these expansions will come sometime between late 2017 and early 2018.
Announcing collectors editions and mentioning that there will be a Season Pass is pretty common, but showing the release schedule this far ahead is not. As per usual, this rumor comes from some dude on Reddit who knows some dude who works at GameStop and apparently GameSpot received an internal memo from Bungie giving some further details on when the two announced pieces of DLC will be released. According to it, the first two expansions will be released winter 2017 and spring 2018.
"The Destiny 2 Expansion Pass includes reservations for both Expansion 1 and Expansion 2, which will be released in Winter 2017 and Spring 2018, respectively. The Expansions offer brand new story missions, cooperative activities, competitive multiplayer, and a wealth of new weapons, armor, and gear."
While it's easy to criticize Bungie for already having DLC ready to go out almost a year in advance, five months before even the game has been released, it's important to remember that Destiny is more like an MMO like World of Warcraft and needs a constant flow of new content. Besides, most games these days release DLC in about the same pace that Bungie has planned, it's only that their plans got leaked.
You can read the memo bellow and see what you think, if it's legit or not. PC Gamer reached out to a Bungie representative, though they had nothing to say about these rumors.
Even if this particular rumor is false, the schedule it about the same for when they released the two first expansions for Destiny 1.

For Destiny 2, I'm going to need assurances of less pointless grinding.

Expect lots of Destiny 2 video on the internet around then.

Destiny 2 is going to be a big story very soon, as details about the game's reveal event have shown up on Reddit. Invitations were sent out to a number of gamers, YouTube personalities, and media types alike pointing to May 18th as the date for Destiny 2's gameplay reveal. Here's a look at the slick invitation that was sent out.

There will be a keynote presentation that will begin at 10 AM PST on the 18th with an accompanying livestream, and every attendee will be able to go hands-on with Destiny 2 on both PC and an unknown console (probably the PS4). Expect a ton of YouTubers to capture oodles of gameplay from the event, but it's currently unknown when/if there is an embargo date on that coverage.

It seems as though Bungie is looking to grab some headlines ahead of E3 2017, but that probably won't keep them from having a strong presence in LA in June.

Destiny 2 is expected to be sold through Steam, despite previous fears that Bungie would release their own proprietary platform. There are also rumors that the game will get its first expansion by the end of 2017 and its second in early 2018.

Just PC and PS4.

After invitations to Bungie's Destiny 2 reveal event began popping up online, the mega-developer has stepped forward to talk about the event a little bit on their blog. The biggest detail to glean from the post is that the mystery console that will be used to show off Destiny 2 is the PS4. This is hardly surprising given the support that PlayStation has gotten from both Bungie and publisher Activision over this console generation.
Here's an excerpt from the post on Bungie's blog:
You might have noticed that we’re inviting some special guests from the media and our community to be part of a live audience for this premiere. They’ll be among the first players to get some hands-on time with Destiny 2 immediately after the conclusion of the livestream. The PS4 and PC versions of the game will be on display, so you should expect another wave of news, coverage, and content to dig into after the event is over.
The Destiny 2 gameplay reveal event will take place on Thursday, May 18th, beginning at 10 AM PST with a keynote presentation. There will be a livestream coinciding with the event that will presumably start around the same time, and you can expect lots of coverage to come out in the following days.

All rumors and leaks should be taken with a grain of salt.

Yesterday, a rumor suggested that Destiny 2 would be running at 60FPS and would feature a cross-saving between the PC and PlayStation 4, as well as a few other things. Another leaker, has revealed a bit more information - this time going into detail on weapons, classes, subclasses, a new PvP mode, and more.
The post, now deleted, has been preserved via Google Cache, however, the comments were lost. Luckily, one netizen still had the page open this morning to reveal even more details (thanks, nowai)! According to the additional details, there will be four open areas that are "much larger than anything in D1, but still nothing compared to a full MMO. The average zone is close to twice as large, and there are roughly 3 times as many zones per location."
The leaker named four open areas: Earth, Myriad (a moon around Jupiter, could be changed to Io or Europa), Titan, and Ganimede.
This time, Earth will be a "European Dead Zone."
Additionally, the leaker hinted at Looking for Group for Raids.
Here's the leak (with minor format tweaks and emphasis by me), as per Reddit:

  • Destiny 2 will launch on Battle.net - not Steam and not Origin.
  • Max level will be 20 just like D1 vanilla.
  • Tomorrow they will reveal a new PvP game mode. It is like an evolution of Elimination, but Elimination is not gone (don't worry!). At the moment, crucible - all of it - is 4v4.
Let's talk about the weapons.

  • Slot A is like Primary. It will work mostly the same as it does now. There will be no elemental weapons in this slot. Kinetic damage Auto, Pulse, Hand Cannon, and Scout. However, side arms will get moved into this slot and SMGs will be added.
  • Slot B is identical to slot A, but the weapons are elemental. That means that you get two primaries in crucible and ammo is abundant for both.
  • Slot C will be Rocket Launchers (with even less ammo, but larger explosions), Swords, fusions, snipers, shotguns, and.... a secret new weapon I don't want to spoil (but was totally in the trailer)! HMGs are gone.
  • "Heavy ammo" will have relatively short timers and many locations, but only drops for the person that picks it up. Of course, we've seen that Bungie can change this kind of thing with relative ease, so who knows how it will be at launch or a year from now.
  • Abilities are a really big deal. You can expect to see each class have a new ability that exists for the whole class no matter what subclass. Each class gets 1 ability with 3 options. Hunters get Shadestep, Warlocks get something similar to the bubble, but it doesn't offer a physical barrier, just the perk, and Titan's get a "brace" which is kind of like a cover they can create.
  • Golden Gun, Voidwalker, Striker, Nightstalker, Stormcaller, and Sunbreaker will all return, though they will all see massive changes. Bladedancer is being replaced by a class that uses an arc bow staff. Sunsinger is being replaced by a class that uses a solar sword. Defender is being replaced by void Captain America.
  • Trials of Osiris is gone. It's called Trials of the Nine :)

Looks like a great game for people who were way into Destiny 1.

If you tried the first game and bounced off of it, this doesn't seem like a huge improvement.

Nice new abilities. Other than that, looks like regular ol' Destiny to me. Not even remotely excited.

For PC players, it will be exclusive to Blizzard's platform (formerly known as Battle.Net).
