Games Destiny 2

General Gaming Discussion
So I've been playing Destiny 2 for the past few days. I'm having fun, I really like the world and lore, good science fantasy. I never played the first one however, I was thinking of getting the version with all DLC. Is it worth it?

Still I think it's a bummer that Destiny ended up being a gear/loot grind fest game, rather than more traditional RPG with stronger narrative. They wasted such a grand world for a lame loot system.

With Curse of Osiris and season two on the way for Destiny 2, the team at Bungie has some time to fill with events to keep players busy and sated. No. They simply need to tie the Star Cards to achievement. The more you play, the better you do, you get stronger. Nothing wrong with that.

which I remember saying something on them making sure it's cosmetic like over watch my self

Any way here it is
Clarity on what “progression” means is key here. Bright Engrams currently contain cosmetics (and gameplay items of only trivial usefulness), whereas progression generally refers to the player growing more powerful through gear or levels, or otherwise progressing through a game’s content. Linking such systems to loot boxes that can be bought with real money has every chance to be another huge controversy.

More generously, this might just be a poorly phrased way for Bungie to say they want to make those cosmetics more engaging to offer players long-term goals of unlocking new bits of gear. Either way, Bungie have seemingly thought twice about their employee needs, or perhaps their phrasing of them - the job ad has since been taken down.

The Internet doesn't forget, however. Here’s a screengrab of the original ad, courtesy of the Destiny 2 subreddit, where players are expressing quite a bit of concern.

The fact that Bungie want someone to “design and implement new features and systems with an eye on engagement, retention, and monetisation” might raise some ire, but the long-term grind has proven to be one of the game’s weakest aspects. Yet no one is eager to see an expanded role for loot box-style random drops as a key part of any game's progression.

We've asked Activision for comment, and will update with their response.
Well we'll see how this goes if they 're doing this to hurt their gamer audience it'll only hurt them in the end more permanently. they are re thinking this.

Activision and Bungie have released a new trailer for the upcoming Destiny 2expansion Destiny 2: Forsaken titled “Last Stand of the Gunslinger.”

Here is an overview of the trailer, via Activision:

Destiny 2: Forsaken opens with an explosive jailbreak in the Prison of Elders. As the most notorious outlaws in the system escape their confines, the only thing standing between them and our home is you and Cayde-6, the most legendary Hunter sworn to protect the City.

A Vanguard doesn’t go down without a fight. Witness Cayde’s last stand.
Destiny 2: Forsaken is due out for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on September 4. Read more about the expansion here.

So, with news of Bungie and Activision splitting, what's everybody's take on it?

Our Destiny > News | Bungie.net

Here's what I think. I very much doubt that Bungie's and Activision's separation will suddenly make Destiny flourish. Bungie wasn't owned by Activision. They were in a partnership. Bungie was in charge of delivering the goods with their IP, while Activision took care of marketing and publishing. Activision wasn't in charge of gameplay design or writing the game's story. Activision didn't force Bungie to reboot Destiny 1 and 2 in the middle of development or threw the game's plot out of the window, months before release, that Joe Staten and his team spent years writing. Bungie were the ones that developed an engine, that took 8 hours to load a map, if they wanted to do something as simple as move a rock. Activision even let them renegotiate their contract, because Bungie couldn't keep up with developing new content. That's how we got the Eververse store, which was Bungie's idea.

While Activision is a scummy publisher and is certainly to blame for a lot of things, Destiny's constant under-performance is solely to blame on Bungie's incompetence and gross mismanagement during the game's development. And now with the loss of Activision as their sugar daddy, they have to pay for marketing, publishing, employee salaries and to keep the lights in their studio on. Prepare yourselves for even more mictrotransactions.

Not sure. Could be good, but I still want to see significant changes to improve the game.

at this point, I don't think anything will save Destiny. on paper, it seemed like a grand vision and idea. but the execution across 2 base games and multiple DLCS has fallen far short of that original idea.

it will be interesting to see if Anthem can succeed where Destiny failed.

To me, these AAA online MMOs just don't meet the ambitions and corporate marketing speak they promise. Give me The Witcher 3 any day of the week over this. Heck I will take Arkham Knight over it.

I'm glad Bungie is giving Activision the boot. It hurts Activision, their stocks dropped again by 11%, which is satisfying. And I think its always preferable for the developer to publish their own game. When publisher shareholders are calling the shots they rarely care about the developer's intentions. And in terms of greed not many exceed Activision's shareholders. My hope is Bungie will rebalance the game, and ease up on the gambling and microtransactions. I guess we'll see.
