Comedy Detective Pikachu Sequel | Warner Bros.

That's the only semi-natural way I can see it working.

Still wish we could actually get a full-on live-action take on Pokémon with familiar characters and settings though, but unfortunately Legendary doesn't seem to be interested.

Oh well never say never. I don’t think it’s impossible. Especially if the Mario movie really smashes it

Detective Pikachu’s Justice Smith Offers Update On Potential Pokemon Sequel

hm. Disappointing but it would surprise me if they wanted to go in a different direction

I'm not really disappointed. If they ever make another Pokemon movie, I want actual Pokemon. I want Team Rocket. I want gym battles. I want training and bonding.

Not surprised they are dragging their feet either. Detective Pikachu didn't bomb, but it didn't exactly doe Super Mario Bros. Movie business. Made less than both Sonic films domestically.

They should make a movie that resembles the anime series or the videogames.

This Pikachu as a detective is not really interesting to begin and thats most likely why the movie didn't perform greatly at the box office.

I'm totally on board if we get a different actor voicing Pikachu this time. Given the way the first one ended it would make sense.

A live-action 1998 Pikachu would've been glorious!

Whatever happened to that actor? : 🤔

They've been working on one for Netflix called Pokemon Red and Blue, but there hasn't been news on it for a while.

Ummm what? The original made 450 million worldwide. Prior to Mario and FNAF, it was the most financially successful video game movie to date. I'm honestly surprised a sequel is taking as long as it has.

WB was expecting a billion from a Pokémon movie. Idiots.

450 million worldwide and that was pre-Covid. Pokemon is a popular brand and it should have grossed more than that.

Pokemon is fairly long in the tooth and doesn't really have an adaptable plot. Live action cock fighting movie for kids isn't that great of idea if you honestly think about it. I think they made the right call here but anyone expecting this this to do a billion was insane.

I didn't expect a billion out of it. But less than 500 million worldwide, and less than 150million in North America before Covid hits... for such a lucrative brand. If it earned more, Wb would have fast tracked it sooner. Not 5 years after the movie came out.

Also few years before the movie, Pokemon Go was a worldwide sensation.

So we agree this came out past the IPs peak. As an adaptation of a side game, I think this did about as well as it possibly could.

No we aren't in an agreement. As I was saying, in my original post - the movie should have resembled the anime and the videogames (the classic Nintendo games, not the spin off which I'm not really familiar with). And that a Detective Pikachu movie wasn't interesting enough, hence why it didn't perform greatly at the box office, which you disagreed by saying "what?".

Is less than 150 million in North America and 450 million worldwide, great to you, considering the history of Pokémon? Thats just 115 million more than the Prince of Persia the movie.

I edited my post to 433 to 450 but when I checked box office mojo again. Its actually 433 million. So the difference between the worldwide gross of POP and DP is actually just 97 million and there was 9 year gap between those 2 movies.
