Detroit

The entire history of the civil rights movement would seem to differ.

blacks didn't protest that, they could have opened their own business to serve their community, instead they wasted time protesting to shop inside someones store that didn't want them there

The concerns they were addressing went much further than just business though.

Almost didn't recognize Will Poulter there. He looks ten years older.

Looks good and the cast is interesting. I didn't even recognize Jason Mitchell at first, but I'm glad to see he's getting a lot of work coming off of Straight Outta Compton. I'm also really curious to see what they do with Will Poulter in this, because that dude can definitely act based off what I have seen from him in The Revenant and even Maze Runner. His character seems to be the most intriguing honestly.

john boyega does a horrible american accent
After seeing Daniel Kaluuya's brilliant performance in Get Out I'm starting to think he would have been a choice for role. If they truly wanted a Brit actor to play an American. Still think Boyega will be good though.
Boyega is always great, but damn if Poulter isn't going places.
That guy is really talented.

How exactly were they going to open their own business when banks wouldn't offer business loans to many black people and many black people were forced to work low paying jobs that meant they could just about afford to provide for their families. They had little money to save for starting their own businesses.

I don't think you understand the social economics realities of 20th century racism.

Also African Americans only using stores run by other African Americans is self segregation which most black people were against (i.e Jim Crow and Apartheid). African Americans wanted the opportunity to shop in whatever store they wanted and eat at whatever restaurant they wanted.

Sooo, this is winning best picture huh? I mean it's about racism so it must be frontrunner at the oscars. Or they will be called racist again.

I hope it is better than last year piece of crap Moonlight.

On topic for the trailer:

Looks very good. I can see Boyega getting Lead Actor nom and Pulter getting Supporting. It will be great. My only problem is that I really did not like Bigelow's last two movies (The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty). Both were weak. And THL was one of the most stupid Oscar winners ever.

Detroit is one of those films that after viewing it, you would need to go to a bar, get a drink, and think about how ****ed up society is. After watching Detroit, I was on my train ride home and everything I just witnessed from the movie sunk into my soul which resulted in me crying for a good 5 minutes. It wasn’t one of those silent cries where you start tearing and looking down, but it was one of those cries after your mama disciplines you.

Poulter delivers a performance so terrifying and threatening that you wouldn’t expect someone like him to play a character so detestable. He gives a Michael Fassbender 12 Years A Slave caliber of a performance as in the character he portrays so hateful; it's going to take me years to be willing to see a film featuring Will Poulter. ****, I can't even watch We’re the Millers anymore without looking at Will Poulter and not have hate fire in my eyes.

Can't wait to see this... the guys from Double Toasted said it's their favorite movie of the year so far.

I want to see this, but I might wait for streaming. I've seen so many movies in the last month and I dunno if this necessitates the "theater experience," as it were.
