so you agree that women have it difficult in hollywood? so it could not be possible that she get's a bit more credit for her work, because most of the time men dominant this area of work (directing)? dont you think this could play in favour of her? again...she could be massiv talented, but there is always a chance that she gets treated differently because she's a woman. that's not her fault, but this is the way of life and just look around..

I think she's a good director and I enjoy her films. I think that Zero Dark Thirty is a better film than the one she won best director for. That's what I think.

It's art and art is subjective. Your statement that she's recognized only because she's a woman is utter crap.

when i say she's overrated does it hurt your feelings?

If I said Christopher Nolan is overrated, does it hurt yours?

This is rediculous, why don't you appologize for what you said and move on rather than make yourself look even more ignorant.

You have every right in the world not to like her work, but that doesn't make your opinion any more important than anyone else.

How about Bigelow is successful, because a) she's a very good and capable director and b) yes, because she is a woman. The thing with The Hurt Locker isn't the type of film women get to direct often. I'm not a huge fan of the film, but as an audience who rarely see women direct, especially these type of films, it is something that will make people take notice a bit more if it was a man. And her being a woman isn't a hindrance to her credit as a director. The fact she is a woman directing these films is fantastic.

Women do indeed have it harder in Hollywood. Bigelow got where she was from talent yes, but her being a woman does play a part of it. It's not sexism. This is pragmatism in Hollywood which can be sexist.

why do you guys have to bring nolan into the discussion? nolan ****ed up big with tdkr. just because my username is nolan doesnt mean the guy is god for me.

again, i think she's overrated, i dont give a **** whether she's a woman or a man...i see her as a director and she's not up in the big league, and also mentioned that her being a female could have influenced something..

I'm bringing up that point that opinion is just that, opinion. If you don't like her, fine, saying that the only reason people recognize her work is because she's female is BS.

I say let's not ignore the fact a woman is directing these type of films. You don't get where you are without talent, and Bigelow certainly has it. But typically, women don't direct these type of films. This is pretty historical. And her being one isn't something to be ashamed of when you bring up her success. Yes, she is a talented filmmaker, but she is also a woman that other women can't do because Hollywood is male dominated. You add that to her credit. Again, it's not a hindrance, it's part of her credit as a filmmaker. Because this is atypical.

first point: i said, she's overrated, not without talent. you can be good, but still a bit overrated.

second point: exactly, you dont expect women to do such movies. you are happy about it. could you give her more credit for the work than a man? probably? probably not. there's a slight chance

This I agree with. She should be commended for taking on these types of films, typically seen as male dominated.

That wasn't what CN was saying though, and perhaps he misstated himself, but he seemed to be saying that she was not a talented director, but only recognized because she was a woman directing films normally men direct. That is BS.

You think she's overrated. You are one of the few people that think that.

Okay thanks, figured it out

one more time my opinion of the characterization of maya:

I am just glad I saw this three weeks ago before it went wide and it all of sudden became "boring" and poorly directed, acted, written and the other laughable claims being thrown around in this thread. I think it boils down to it is not an action movie and we should all be thankful for that.

when i say she's overrated does it hurt your feelings?

Hurt my feelings? No. But using the excuse that she "might" have been treated with kid gloves by the media because she's a woman in order to undermine claims of her talent and her success is pretty much what happens to women who are successful in pretty much anything. Its just tiresome and frustrating to see time and time again.

Its also frustrating to have to explain to grown adults why such claims are bullsh**. If you are in fact a fourteen year old I apologize for wasting your time.

I think the majority of the wide audience expected and would have preferred an adaptation of No Easy Day.

If you're not a white guy all your accomplishments are apparently due to some affirmative action type thing. I don't like to play that card but it seems appropriate.

Reportedly before making hot fuzz Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg gave Nick Frost a giant list of action films he needed to watch but the only one he watched was Point Break...the only one necessary.
