In a sequel, should we see Devastator or any other joined robots? I keep thinking something like that would be to much for a live action film. It's something the Japanese would do. How could you possibly pull something off like that without it being over the top.

Poll added :trans:

absolutely! just look at bonecrusher.

I think we should see some Combinors. Although if the Decepticon's get Devastator then the Autobot's would eventually need one as well...the Arielbots would be cool but I would prefer them to battle the Stubticons, they seem to be destined rivals since they were both created in The Key to Vector Sigma episodes.

Maybe the Autobots could have Omega Surpreme since he and the Constructicon's were friends on Cybertron and then enemies. (Although that arc is messed up: Megatron created the Constructicon's in Heavy Metal War and then we find out they were on Cybertron and Megartron simply turned them into Decepticons).

"gestalts" is the proper term.

Devastator would probably be too huge. As much as I would LOVE to see the Constructicons and Omega Supreme!!!!

It is but there may be some people here who aren't familiar with the term.

This would probably be best suited in the sequel forum. While I ma here I will say no, there are better characters to choose from in the TF catalog, preferably ones that dont go walking around going "Kill, Crush, Destroy"

PS some of the individual constructicons like Scrapper are good though.

If they did it right, and I dont even know what right is, but I know the only reason any Godzilla movie existed was to have huge ass creatures fight in a city, it would be tough to make it look non cheesy, but sweet if it looks cool.

I'll say make them fight in the dessert.

How could they assembly realisticly? In the cartoons we see them form the legs, arms and torso and then join together in midair. I just don't see how that could work in a live action movie. It just seem to cheesy. I think the main problem is we've seen it in too many cartoons. Like Transformers and Voltron and it just would look silly in live action.

they join together on ground then stand up a giant. like that. ;)

LOL .... sounds simple and yet it could look cool. Seeing one rise to it's knees and slowly to it's feet.

Yeah but the Stunticons aren't popular. If M.Bay came to Hasbro wanting combiners (Gestalts FTL) in a sequel they wouldn't push for the Stunticons. There are 3 popular combiner teams (going but what was acutally on the market for G2 and homaged in RiD and Energon). The Constructicons (by far the most popular), the Aerialbots, and the Combaticons. The others (Protectobots, Stunticons, Predacons, Technobots, Terrorcons, Trainbots) just aren't up there with those three.

I still think it would look over the top. Even though the idea of them combining on the ground and standing on their feet, would look cool. I just can't picture a giant robot alien the size of a sky scraper walking around in a live action movie. To much Japanese mech action. LOL

Simple.

The legs form, while the others climb the legs, or fly/backflip up to attach.

And I'd love to see a Combiner for the next one. They have to step up things somehow.

Dur! You have 3-6 already giant robots combine into one even more gianter robot. How can it be anything but over the top Japanese mech action!

That said, combiners are a big tradition in TF's. And I'd hate for combiners to be like the second teir X-characters in X3. Just tossed in to please fanboys without much consideration for their involvement in the overall story.

Devastator, being the most popular would be hard to make the actual combining sequence look intense...as they are mostly slow moving vehicles. In my head, I picture the Aerialbots because they would be moving fast enough to make the combining sequence a great action piece. Here's how I picture it.

One Aerialbot is already in robot mode on the ground somewhere while another one flies toward looking like its going to crash into him. Dust from the concrete flies up juuust a little to show impact and then the others start doing the same thing til you get a combined robot. If the camera movement is correct then I'm sure ILM could do wonders with something of that magnitude without making it look silly.

Combiners would look a bit odd for the big screen I think. There's a problem with mass and making things look real: The bigger you go the slower and more ponderous the movements get to keep it looking real. I can imagine something the size of Devastator dawdling around like an astronaut on a spacewalk and the only thing I can think of it really being able to do effectively is tear up big structures... sloooowwwwllly. I'm looking for high-intensity action in my action blockbusters! :cwink:

Anyway here's an amusing take on the the subject

Also, we would have to hope that no one thinks of Power Rangers if we see robots merging. It's funny to see how badly PR ripped of the Dinobots and Transformers in general.

If there is a GOOD REASON for Devastator I think they can definately make it work. In the comic book, they were brilliantly introduced. Build communications bridge... when attacked turn around and defend it in the most dramatic way possible.

If it's done purely for effect and "gee whiz" audience reaction (which is typical Bay) then I say No. I'd much rather see Shockwave trounce everybody.

I can imagine Starscream leading the Autobots into a trap at a construction zone.

They enter what looks like a warzone, with wreckage everywhere. There are pieces of broken building, girders bent and twisted all over the place.

Construction vehicles flipped and smoking. Then they start forming together. Pieces start sticking together. Tons of little metallic and magnetic arms/tendrils start sticking together.

They form.

Optimus turns, looks, and says something.

And he just raises from the ground like the Balrog's first appearance in LOTR. Tons of dirt and smoke. Lets out a loud growl and roar.

"WE ARE DEVASTATOR."

And then Unicron eats Mars, Grimlock transforms into a Dinosaur to hide from the general public, Junkions invade Earth, and the movie becomes a five year old's fantasy all over again.

You got it backwards. TF's are an outgrowth of Voltron/Power Rangers type Japanese fiction. Power Rangers actually predates TF's by almost ten years. In fact the original Optimus Prime, all the Autobot cars, the Dinobots, the Insecticons, and Decepticon jets were all originally transforming armoured battlesuits of the Diaclone forces. They all came with little pilot figures that fit inside them. You ever wonder what that flap above where G1 Grimlocks robo-legs connect in Dino form is? It's his Diaclone pilot cockpit.
