I was disappointed in the issue of Invincible Iron Man I read because it was so incredibly similar to DoS, only it skewed a bit away from the intrigue and politics that, in my opinion, make DoS great. I wondered why two books covering practically the exact same stuff needed to exist. Obviously, my question's been answered now that we know DoS is becoming War Machine, so Fraction's comic should comfortably fill the void and give people all the patented Tony Stark *****ebaggery they could want. I won't be reading it, though. Salvador Larroca's art is terrible and, frankly, the bit that IIM skews away from the politics and over to Tony's personal life is a bit too much for me.

I think it is just something about Iron Man in general. If I was offered a good lump sum of money to drop any of the main Marvel heroes for the rest of my life, Iron Man would probably top my list. There is just something about his character that lends itself to boredom. (The true test would be if they put Slott on the title. If it's still boring, then I guess there isn't any hope for Tony Stark.)

FRANKLIN RICHARDS SUMMER SMACKDOWN $3.99 (God, I love these.)

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who loves these Franklin Richards' adventures. It definitely has a Calvin And Hobbes feel to them, and I think I've only read one issue that wasn't good.

I thought Cable was universally considered terrible. How come so many people are still reading it?

I wouldn't classify it a "terrible," especially when compared to the other X-titles, like "Young X-Men" and "New Exiles." THOSE are terrible. It's just a mediocre title that is more appreciated when compared to a lot of the other crap we read.

The Franklin Richards comics are amazingly fun, and amazingly consistent in quality. Sometimes you need a break from all the big, muscly men and scantily clad women pounding each other into oblivion, and Franklin Richards gives you that whilst retaining the familiarity of the Marvel universe setting. This one-shot also reminded me that I've gotta pick up that Mini-Marvels trade, so I'll probably get that, too.

As for Iron Man, I guess he is kind of inherently boring, especially if he's being treated as a human being and not just a one-note dick, which Invincible Iron Man obviously has to do. I think, if he has to be three-dimensional, he's far more compelling as the head of SHIELD, which may just be my predilection for political thrillers and espionage at work. Fraction's take features some SHIELD stuff, but the tone feels a lot more personal than Director of SHIELD's. Tony feels like just one guy in a really strong ensemble cast in DoS, whereas he feels like the undeniable center of Invincible. His conflict with Zeke Stane is far more personal than any of the more global threats he faced in DoS--even the Mandarin--and, frankly, I just don't find Tony a compelling enough character to sustain my interest in a comic largely delving into his personal life.

Oh, and the Pepper/Tony 'romance' is so incredibly weak in Invincible. It was charming in the movie, but they've got way too much history in the comics. I mean, every time they're together I keep thinking, "You got her husband killed and now you're trying to worm your way into her pants? You f***ing *****ebag."

I can dig the mindless action, and I'm curious to see why the Messiah Baby (who I will not admit is Jean) is so important.

I'm tempted to pick up the issues where he meets up with Cyclops again. I always like seeing Cyclops and Cable together, even if Scott is a total ******* right now.

In all fairness, when has Cyclops not been a total ******* to Cable?

I've been considering dropping Eternals to make room for the upcoming War Machine ongoing and maybe even Secret Warriors as well...

I've been considering dropping Hulk also, just for different reasons.
