I know everyone brags about this book...and, it does look really nice...but, the length of time and realization that this really is just another JLA adventure has made it a bit "ho hum" in my opinion. (Come on, this story does not in any way warrant waiting 2 years for.) Plus, DC is so desperate to make money off this thing that it broke up the hardbacks into three seperate books. Plus, you know they are just going to put it all into one volume when it's all said and done. For me, I'm going to only buy a trade paperback when an entire story is collected.
I like the book, but that is probably because I forget about it after every issue, so when it does come I'm like, "oh, you're here", sort of like ASTONISHING X-MEN. C'mon, ASTONISHING is exactly the same. It's little different than any ol' X-Men adventure and it's slow as hell; a "2 year" story has stretched to 3 and counting. Quality wise, though, I'd probably pick ASTONISHING though. At least it has a recap page. And has better dialogue, followable action, and art. Yes, I said art.
I agree on DC's greed about the hardcovers. It is very stupid. It is amazing; 1-2 years ago, if someone wanted to rag on something bad Marvel was doing, you could claim DC was doing _____ better. But almost no one says that sort of stuff anymore. In fact the past year or so, DC in many areas has probably been bungling things worse than Marvel because they rely on more outright outdated ideas. Joe Q may hate the Parker marriage, but at least he hasn't flipped the universe upside down just to get 616 back in high school or something.
JUSTICE is probably an instant classic from Ross, considering he hasn't had one in a few years, but admittedly I may be bummed if the ending doesn't really rock my socks off. Admittedly the first few chapters where it seemed like the LOD maybe weren't so evil after all was interesting, but it lost some steam when it degenerated into a more generic Brainiac Invasion story, especially since I have seen that story done 100 times better and faster on JLU, but, whatever. You dislike it more than I do, and that's fine.
But, hey, Ross relies on the Silver Age just as much as DC does and cannot shy away from it, at least he openly admits it.
