Diamond Shipping List for October 15th, 2008

Theres three issues of ASM on that list because ones a second printing of issue 571 and the other is a variant cover for the new issue that's coming out.

I've seen an issue of Amazing Spider-Man in my comic shop that isn't anywhere in the timeline and it shows Jackpot or whatever her name is. The red head chick superhero. It's confusing. I'll see if it's still there and pick it up and see if anyone might know.

It was probably Secret Invasion: Spider-Man: Brand New Day or whatever.

Or another reprint with a variant cover. But probably the Secret Invasion tie-in. It's not in some on it's own universe, it just takes place during the invasion, which as far as the events in ASM is concerned, hasn't happened yet.

X-MEN WORLDS APART #1 (OF 4) $3.99 - maybe; I like Yost, and I'd be interested to see a solo story with Storm, a long-running X-character I've never had the best feel for, but I may trade-wait (plus, Marvel's new, gratuitous price point).

You know, it's weird. I was looking at some sales charts from previous years to see how some of today's top Marvel titles were selling back before Civil War and House of M. I'd forgotten just how well the Ultimate line used to sell. They used to practically dominate the top 20 every month.

Ghost rider #28 $3.99
iron man director of shield #34 si $2.99
moon knight #23 $2.99
uncanny x-men #503 md $2.99

I just realized Columbus Day was this week. Does anyone know if shipments have been pushed back to Thursday? I hate walking into the comic shop only to realize nothing arrived. I have to drive for 20 minutes just to get there.

Weak week for me. But i do get to see the Rogues in action, so i guess i can't complain.

I can't wait to see more Quasar in the next Nova. DnA are kicking ass on both of the cosmic ongoings right now.

Indeed. I can't wait, either. It just is a shame that it appears that most things that pop up in NOVA don't stay they, they just move to GOTG, like Knowhere and Cosmo. Why can't Quasar stay with Nova a bit? Worldmind was his only supporting cast and now he is gone.

I like how Annihilation has shifted the focus of Marvel's cosmic stuff from a realm of insane power levels and operatic waxing to more of an untamed frontier filled with rough, gritty heroes (and Nova as the lone, shiny beacon of order to contrast all that) and more of a respect for the cosmos itself as a mysterious and enigmatic force in the series. Half the time, the Guardians and Nova don't even know what the hell is going on.

Yeah, I like that too. A good way to revive the genre while sticking to it's roots.

Indeed. It is the "ultimate" sign that the line has run it's course. All of those books no longer have A or even B list talent, aside for USM, which is the highest selling of the bunch (and even it struggles to sell within the Top 25). UFF at times struggled to sell within the Top 50 and is the lowest selling of the line, with Ult. XM in the middle. They're all in a limbo; creatively without any purpose, but they sell too well to cancel.

Ult. X-Men has been dead to me since the beginning of Kirkman's run. That crap was so bad, I'm afraid to read Invincible. Yes, I know Ult. X-Men is supposed to be the "exception", but I didn't like the acclaimed Irredeemable Ant-Man, either.

Yeah, the irony of course was that Ult. XM was Kirkman's best selling work, and among his worst. I stuck around for about two years before bailing, and I am glad I did.

His best work has been for Image, IMO. But it is all up to taste.

I have contacted two comic stores on two coasts and they state that comics will ship on Wednesday despite Columbus Day. I even worked on that day; a lot of stores and offices do not consider it as vital a legal holiday as others.
