Dick Grayson Casting Thread

Not to mention how traumatizing it is to go to a public lavatory every single time.

I really like the idea of Efron for Dick/Nightwing and Butterfield for Tim (or Damien)/Robin
Both good choices. Efron is totally underrated.
The only bad thing is that he doesn't look the part as much as, let's say Zegers or Lerman. But it doesn't matter. I'm starting to think he will blow us out of the water with his Dick Grayson.
Asa as Tim is also a really good idea. If he gets the role, I think he will forget that he lost Spider-Man.

I don't find Logan Lerman to be fitting at all, not even for younger Grayson.
Lerman is one of the few young actors that were born to play Dick Grayson Robin!
But as they say, to each his own.

I'd expect someone who looks more mature and is more lighthearted. I can see him as Tim Drake, though, as it is quite the opposite - a younger looking man that is very mature by nature. That would befit Lerman perfectly, I find.

Still, to each their own, as you say.

I think he could do it, but I'd like to see him do something super serious to confirm him as my number one.

RE: Butterfield: he looks too young to play Tim, and I'd rather someone of mixed race play Damian (but that's incredibly unlikely to happen).

Dylan Minnette might be someone to look out for. The new movie he's in, Goosebumps, looks awful, but he doesn't look like he'll be awful in it.

I know this is the Dick Grayson casting thread, but if he should be under consideration for any Robin, it should be Tim.

Actually, having seen Alexander's Horrible Bad Day, I think Minette could be a great choice for Robin. I would still like a Nightwing who is a bit older. Hence my Efron suggestion.

Minette is pretty mediocre tbh.

If I had to throw one out there id say Callan McAuliffe

Freddie Highmore might be another to watch out for

My top choice is Jack O'Connell. I think he showed amazing talent in the UK film Starred Up, and will soon prove himself stateside in Angelina Jolie's Unbroken. When I see him with his hair dyed black to play Louie Zamperini it is exactly how I picture a live action nightwing, not superbuff pretty boys like a lot of sites are saying he should be.

Bumping this post since I'm seeing the usual Lerman/Highmore suggestions and Jack is the best choice for Dick hands down.

Also, his Unbroken costar Finn Whitrock would make a great Jason Todd.

O'Connell has the versatility and depth to pull off this role - especially if he will be the Robin Joker got his hands on.

Maybe. I'd have to see him attempt to portray a lighthearted, smooth, charismatic character before deciding one way or another.
That's what you need Lerman to do before judging if he will suit Dick Grayson, because the first Robin is a lighter character. Did I get you right?

But this is what Efron should do before deciding if he's a candidate for Dick?
I don't quite follow your thinking there.

Sorry!

Dylan O'Brien.

lol because God knows your taste in fancasting is impeccable, Airwings.

Oh. Wait. :o

I find Lerman to be a very average actor. He's not terrible or anything but I don't see why he gets suggested for roles so often.

Highmore is great but I have the same issue with him that I had with Aaron Paul when people kept suggesting him for the Flash. Not every actor out there fits the superhero mold. Granted, there is leeway here; not every actor who has played a superhero looks exactly like their comic book counterpart. But I just don't think I could buy Highmore as badass Dick Grayson. As Jimmy Olsen? Sure. But whoever plays Dick needs to believably be able to play an Olympic level athlete and master or hand to hand combat. I can't see Highmore pulling that off.

If Lerman plays anyone, it's Tim.

If Batman were younger (which would make Lerman a possible candidate for the role of Dick Grayson) then yes, I would need to see him display those characteristics.

Dick isn't a clown. Not everything that comes out of his mouth is a joke. I'd like to see him played by a well-rounded actor who can make us laugh and cry. I know Efron can be funny. I want to see him be serious.

Yep.

Milo Ventimiglia! Has been my top choice for years is still is.

But could Lerman pull this off?

Please don't suggest O'Brien now. If there's someone who can't do it, it's him.

Lerman = Jason
Butterfield = Tim
:)

Efron was serious in Charlie St Cloud.
Bad Neighbours showed us not only he can be charismatic, but also do some fighting.

Milo Ventimiglia! Has been my top choice for years is still is.
He's too old. He's born in 1978
I suggest Kevin Zegers for Dick. They could also go younger if needed and pick Michael Angarano

I would never suggest Dylan O'Brien. I have nothing against the guy, but after all the insane crap that went on over Spider-Man's casting, I have no desire to ever see him in a superhero film.
