Okay, in the recent SHH! interview, Brandon says:

Routh: "I did not read the Superman comics. I was a big fan as a kid."

Okay, so it seems like he didn't read the comics. But yet, he was a big fan. Now, at least to me, his second sentance makes it seem like he DID in fact read the comics!

Could the first sentance be a typo? Can someone solve my dilema?!

No, he could have seen the movies, or watched the Animated series or the Superboy series in the 80s early 90s show, Lois and Clark and so on....

I didnt read Superman comics for a few years but I already knew him well.Icoouldnt read, when I fell in love with Supes

I did not also read so much comics about Supes, but I know his history and that is enough.

I read "Birthright", "For Tomorrow", "Lex Luthor: Man of Steel", "ACtion Comics #1", "The Death of Superman", some parts from "Infinite Crissis", "The Return of Superman", "All star" and now I am reading "Ap, ap and Away!" and "SR Prequel".

no disrespect..i couldnt care less.. it wont effect his proformance..although page fletcher nevah watched peter weller play Robocop and look what happend there.. Robocop prime directives. :(

point taken.

so, according to your logic, the only way anyone could have been a superman fan as a kid is if he/she read the comics?

i don't think so. there were so many other forms of media that superman existed in. like everyone else said, there were movies, cartoons, tv shows, etc. the comics was just one form of media that superman appeared in.

I don't read Superman comics often although I did very little when I was into comics a loooong time ago, although I may pick up a few of the big PBs like Superman for all Seasons, etc.

However, that doesn't eliminate my fan status I think. STM is one of my favorite movies, and I watch TAS, JLU, etc. I also have a lot of Superman stuff like a poster of Reeve in my living room, figures, cards, etc. Oh, and now a shirt!

There's no way to really know if he read the comics until he's asked point-blank, "Brandon, did you read the comics?"

i have to say that I've never read the comics but I've seen the movies. I've always rathered watch movies than read books.

He said a little bit after that that he was a fan of the movies, even though he didn't read the comics.

You don't have to be a comic book fan or read any to be a Supes's fan. It's about how much you know & understand the character. Superman has already proven to be more than just a comic book character: he's a media icon. His symbol is very recognizable to people all over the world beside the cross of Jesus. :)

Reeve as Iknow, didn't read comics and he became Superman in memory of every human on this planet.

Not a typo he's a fan of the character the movies, tv shows, cartoons etc

I was a fan of Supes, as I was 7 years old when the first movie came out. I grew up watching the Superfriends on Saturday morning cartoons, and watched reruns of the 1950's TV serials. I've never been a fan of the comic books.

So only a total fanboy would have a problem with what Brandon said.

I'm a big fan of Superman and I never/don't read the comics.
Superman is such an iconic item in pop culture that I would guess that many many fans don't read the comics and know him through TV and movie.

Did any of the actors to have played Superman read the comics?

like 90% of the people on these boards dont read the comics. which i think is really weird. i dont understand how you can be so much of a superman fan that you post on a chat board in anticipation for the film, yet haven't ever really picked up the books.

I heard that he actually has a pretty good knowledge of Superman history. Actually it was from superhero hype when they were talkign about meeting Routh during the set visits last year and some of the inteviewers tried to stump him with a bunch of Superman questions and they coudn't

Oh well this movie has no post-crisis elements anyway..

at least Snipes, Bale, and Jackman haven't foresaken their comic book counter parts

sheesh

Superman throws a continent into space......yeah he is pre-crisis powerful.

Reading. People don't like to read.

Plain and simple.

Plenty of people read, they just don't all read comics. I haven't seriously read comics in over 15 years, but I read books all the time.

Most peoples popularity of Superman comes from the previous movies, the TV Serials and the cartoons. Superman has not been as widely read as Batman or other comics. His popularity comes from a wider range of media.

If you read his full reply this thread would have been no need for this thread ;)

Q: Did you read the Superman comics?
Routh: I did not read the Superman comics. I was a big fan as a kid. You know, I think I've told this story many times about the first time I saw the movie wearing the Superman costume or pajamas with a little cape my mom still has. I was so excited to see the film at age five or six that I gave myself a migraine. I had the little silver bowl next to the couch in case I had an upset stomach through half the movie. I was always throwing things up in the air and seeing how they would fly. Making parachutes out of things and seeing how things would fly and my parents were like 'this kid is crazy." I didn't read the comics, but I was a big fan of the films.

agreed a lot of armchair analysts.

Routh knows his Superman stuff now though. Someone asked him a question about what Red Kryptonite does in an interview and he knew it right away (even tho its not in SR).

I think SR made him into a hardcore Supes fan; the same way it did for Chris.

yeah and according to BT Brandon already had a pretty good knowledge of Superman when he started filming
