Theres been some uncertainty over this. Brandon went on record saying he isnt trying to mimic Christopher Reeve's performance.
How would you want Brandon to play Superman?
The Chris Reeve Superman was the 100% precrisis comic book Supes. A one dimensional boyscout character, naive with this perfect moral core.
The STAS Superman was more headstrong, angsty and stubborn. Rushed into battles without thinking it through, sometimes let his pride, ego or stubborness blind him (ex: The Clash).
So far, it seems Brandon's Superman has alot of depth. He questions his place in this world thats forgotten him. He questions if he should even continue as Superman. Hes a lost man trying to find his place in a changed world where he doesnt fit into any group or family anymore. Martha has remarried and is leaving Smallville. Lois has moved on... He questions where he belongs.
His reaction to these events happening in his life are what makes the character 'human' in this film,...despite not being a human.
I think part of the character will still have that moral core like Chris Reeve's Supes, but he'll also have the depth of the modern imperfect Superman. It could possibily be the best of both worlds....or the best fusion of both interpretations.
Acting wise, it doesnt seem like Brandon is copying Chris Reeve's Superman delivery (which came off in this all american good natured boyscout way). Routh seems to deliever his Superman lines with a slight deep Kryptonian-like accent (like Stamp and Brando) making it divergent from his CK delivery from what we've seen so far.
