Big debate on the IMDb as to whether, in some prints, Aunt May slaps Peter after he tells her what happened to Uncle Ben....the version I saw at the cinema had no slap.

Please don't post a response saying, "I didn't see it, therefore it never happened."

I think I saw it like on my 2.1 DVD, but not in theatres.

I haven't seen it on either the theatrical version or the 2.1 version. If it did happen, I can see why Raimi left it out.

It would be uncharacteristic of May to slap Peter like that. Her walking away from him in silence was much more effective. She was shocked, and needed time to take it in.

^I concur. A slap not only would have been completely out of place for May (especially to strike her son), but would have destroyed the emotional heft of the scene. Good choice to leave that one on the cutting room floor, if it was ever shot at all. My guess is that they probably shot several reactions with both characters and Rosemary got carried away.

^And before somone corrects me, I know May is not Peter's mother, hence the Aunt part. I was only using that to invoke the kind of love she feels for him.

A slap would have been awfull. Not needed. It was fine the way it was.

What in the blue blazes would she slap him for? It's not like he said "Aunt May, I shot Uncle Ben, cut him up into little pieces and fed him to the Fuddermans' chihuahua."

She's an old woman. She's losing it. She had a flashback to when she found a copy of Penthouse in Peter's room, and didn't reprimand him then.

I've never heard about this before.

Anyway, I've never seen it; even in the 2.1 DVD.

"You little feckin' jerk, ya' killed ma' Ben!!" *SLAP!*

And then Peter slaps her back, with full power.....

Totally agree. Her silence said it all.

Agreed. And it's staying true to the Comics that way. And yes the silence does prove how She feels and her reaction. It would have been too odd for Her to hit Peter.

I think Raimi should have kept May slapping Peter, and then Peter slapping her back (but a backhand), which is why she goes upstairs.

It didn't happen, people are remembering the scene wrong.

I didn't even know that existed till the DVD was released. I was watching the movie with my Uncle and when the scene was over he said, "what happened to the slap?" I said, "what?" Then he said that he remembers Aunt May slapping Peter and I said, "I don't remember that."
