If Batman were re-booted after Nolan's series, how would you do it?

I'm talking about every aspect of the series. The casting, the costumes, the storyline, the filmmaking and effects, etc.

I'm curious to see what kind of ideas other Hypesters can come up with about how the next series could/should pan out.

Just a little starter idea: I'd like to see Batman done in a Pulp Fiction-style movie... The intertwining flashbacking stories would be a fun way to depict a more gangster, crime drama-ish movie (definitely not in this series though).

We got the best version of that style ever, in TDK, that was perfect for me. Tarantino is good but very very overrated!

I definitely agree that we've already seen the best, but I think it could still be taken in a different direction while sticking to that drama and result in a fun, amazing film. I'd never have Tarantino direct the film (I like him, but... I like Batman more, and he'd ham it up a bit, I think), but would like to see the weaving style pattern that he used apply to a Batman film.

I'd like to see a stylized, gritty, noir-type film that isn't bound by realism. The look/feel of films such as Zodiac and Road to Perdition, combined with the fantastical elements you would find in the Batman lore. The recent Gotham Knights anime touched on how I see a future series to be envisioned.

Someone like David Fincher or Guillermo Del Toro to helm this style would be ideal for me.

If I had to do it, then I would've done something like Batman 1939, a Batman set the year he was created. It would have the feel of old mobster movies, with Bats taking on The Joker (and killing him in the opening), and then facing Two-Face (as a pinstripesuited mob-boss) for the rest of the movie. His costume, which would be based on his first appearance with the short gloves and the outward ears, and his gadgets would have an old-style feel. Thats how I would do it. Maybe even in black/white? But that'd never happen.

Excatly what I would wish to see. The Bat-Man.

If I were to reboot it, I'd make it more like the comics. We're talking gray and black Batman here. But nothing in camp.

I had a very, very, very long post detailing exactly what would go into my Batman trilogy. But I lost it. :csad:

I'll have to retype it all out tomorrow. :csad:

Exactly. I'd like to see a hyper-stylized Batman film similar to TAS, taking place in modern day with modern technology, but with that great 1940s feel.

I agree with both of these. I want the grittiness of Nolan's films to be maintained, but the gothic and fantasy elements to be reintroduced to the Batman films. I'd like to be able to see Mr. Freeze on the big screen eventually, since we've never seen a serious depiction of him in live action. He has a lot of potential if the director doesn't see him as a big joke, like Schumacher apparently did.

I agree with everything except killing the Joker in the opening. Killing somebody, sure.

If it were my call, the Batman franchise would get rebooted back to something that hews a bit closer to the comics than what's on screen now. And that means Robin, villains like Clayface and Killer Croc, the whole nine yards, though there'd definitely be an influence from Nolan's films and even Burton's.

The costumes, production design, and characterizations would probably be from the comics mixed with traces of Burton and Nolan's visions, using working non-CGI-assisted props and actual location shoots whenever possible and casting based on characterization.

Examples:

- Freeze's cryogenic suit would probably have more of a rivets-and-hoses, bulky-diving-suit/NASA spacesuit feel to it, and in terms of the character, go watch "The Abominable Dr. Phibes". THAT'S my Victor Freeze.

- The Batmobile would essentially have all the functionality of the Tumbler, but would also have the traditional touches of Batmobiles past. I'd keep the design very simple in comparison to past movie versions, but instantly recognizable even to casual fans as what it is intended to be, much as the Burton/Furst car was the first time we saw it.

- Batman's costume (and later Robin's) would have the feel of plated body armor, though more to the minimalist extent of the Returns suit and not as busy as the Nolan suits are. The bodysuit would probably be a sort of a dark gray, with the other components black. Utility belt would be compartmented like on the Nolan suit.

- Villains may appear to die at the end of the movie, but the circumstances would always be left ambiguous. Like the old saying goes, if you don't see the body, they're not dead.

- Gordon would be more Gary Oldman than Pat Hingle - i.e. an honest, committed and competent cop who's so overworked and overwhelmed by the crime and corruption around him that that alone should be reason enough to explain why he would ever associate with a vigilante, much to the chagrin of his peers.

- Gotham would be shot with live-action location plates, with maybe some CGI assist where needed later on; five-hundred-foot tall cathedral towers would not so much be scary as they would be ridiculous by today's standards.

sounds good jochimus. haha don't i know you from deviantart? i'm qbatmanp.

anyways..what i would do from this point is just directly adapt from several graphic novels. we've seen the dark, the camp, and the realistic batman's, do we really need another reboot?

i think nolan pretty much covered all of Year One and Long Halloween with begins and tdk respectively; i think they should do a direct translation of Hush onto screen. that way, we can see the life of batman when he's more matured and used to the crime-fighting lifestyle, and we can also see tim drake in a movie for the first time. we could even see like a flash back of jason todd dying. it would be THE movie for new fans to get into the batman comic book lore.
i can dream can't i?

If they were ever to adapt a graphic novel to film, I'd wanna se DKR.
