Digimon

Just from the 1st arc you've got a lot to work with

i know, but there are aspects i really enjoyed from later seasons that i really enjoyed. season 3 was my favorite season, for example, doesn't mean they should base a whole move on it. i think this should be approached like any comic book adaption with a lot of source material.
I don't really want them to do new characters. The story is very much about the kids themselves that it would be like making a Harry Potter adaptation where the main character is named Glenn Hockenbary but still goes through the same situations as the original. It's isn't about the journey itself, it's about the person taking it.
you do realize that there are SIX or SEVEN seasons of this right? you're completely disregarding 85% percent of it. with the exception of season 2, every season introduced new characters. i feel it would be more in line with the spirit of SHOW AS A WHOLE to create new characters to introduce it to a global audience.

I agree, but I don't necessarily think that they should rename characters and stuff when they do. I just want the best story possible while still respecting the source material like I want from any other adaptation.

I tought season 3 was probably the best one, i loved it too.
However i think season 1 is the more cinematic one, it can be aproached like a comic book adaptation as long as you know what you're doing.
Somebody should present the idea to steven spielberg for him to produce it and the director should just try to make the best story he can with the material.
We would all probably aproach the material in different ways, that said they should use the central plot of the first series, when the kids go to digi world, then they can take it from there and be creative, i think that place mimi was in the begining of the show with a giant tedybear could be an interesting place to use:yay:
The point is, this movie should be the dream of a visual director

I'm not ignoring them, I am simply talking about how to put the beginning of the movie series in motion. I'm ignoring parts of the series because I personally either didn't care for them or weren't as interested in the characters.

For instance, I didn't like the second group of Digidestined, but liked the concept of Tikato and Guilmon's story. The later stuff just felt a bit... off to me. You know, like when they ended Yu-Gi-Oh and then continued it into 5D's. It just felt like they were continuing because it was popular, not because they had a cool way to continue the overall story. Pokemon is really guilty of doing that.

I remember that i prefered the Marik arc in Yu-Gi-Oh but the rest of the series was interesting too, but since GX that i don't watch it, they made it more technologic than mystic, that said i think the first 3 seasons of digimon were the best ones, the 4th season made me stop watching.
I liked the 2nd generation and liked when they met other chosen kids from other parts of the world, season 3 was amazing to say the least but season 1 is in my opinion the darkest ones (in least its environment was the crepiest one)

I think i should make a Digimon movie thread to take the discussion somewhere else but i fear that discussion like this one, would probably be forgoten

I would actually support this. We could put it in the Misc. Films thread?

But why did you make this thread?
Now i'm thinking of how a movie based on Digimon could work as some kind of Super 8 in Wonderland
I started this thread to ask about news and info on the new Digimon Xros Wars that is being shown in Japan now. I want to know if it's any good or if it's as bad as Seasons 2 & 4?

Season 2 had all new characters too, but it also had grown up versions of old characters.

I was kidding, i just said that because you made me think of how a digimon movie could work:woot:

I don't think we need two threads for that but I guess that's for the Mods to decide.

You keep talking about Super 8 but I've not see that yet (maybe tomorrow if I'm good)

I wish they would stop going all Power Rangers on us and start keeping the same cast around again like they did for the first 2.

WATCH IT. This is not an option.

I like how they are self contained little stories. From what I understand most Japanies shows are like this.

I will watch it, the only question is when. I want to see it as soon as possible but it depends on how much money I have in my bank.

Im fine with them doing some self contained seasons but it would be nice if they went back to useing the same cast for 2 seasons or so. Then go back to self contained for awhile and vice versa.

And there are plenty of animes that dont go the Digimon/Sentai route.

But I wish they would start having Pokemon as self contained seasons since ive had enough of Ash and co.

I would like them to go back to the canon of the 1st 2 seasons so that we can know how the characters are doing, and their kids

The reason why Digimon is superior than Pokemon (storywise, not sure bout popularity) is because Digimon has proven that they can switch things up and alter plots and bring in new characters and still maintain a great story (with the exception of Fronteir -__-). Pokemon has been the exact same for over a decade now: Ash and the gang are walking, come to a fork in the road, battle a gym leader, somehow ALWAYS come across a legendary Pokemon, or face Team Rocket who is still after Pikachu.

Digimon isn't afraid to go to new heights and completely change up what we know about the Digital World and the characters. Season 1 and 3 were their best hands down, with 2 being a runner up. Never got to see Savers though.

The manga is much better than the anime you can be shure, it's still published and every generation they change characters but they normally meet the old ones many times and some story arcs have the old characters playing a more important part of the storyline, like the firered/leaf green arc.
The manga is cool, the first storyline for example is only 3 volumes long and the characters are likeable

I loved digimon as a kid!! But only the 1st season and maybe the 2nd season.

PokeSpecial manga is what you want. Good storylines too. I remember one where Gary's Charmeleon used a Slash to decapitate an Arbok.

Season 3 of Digimon was a create demonstation of the "break the cutie" trope with Jeri and Leomon.:csad:

Yup, i put the volume right there.
In the USA its known as pokemon adventures and its also a bit darker than the show.
But what i don't like with the translations are that they changed Green and Blue's names and they also changed one of Blue's jokes from the manga, if you read the original version of the manga's first story arc then you'll remember the scenne with the pokeballs:cwink:

Bras, right? :D I've been reading scanlations, is the manga consistently released and pretty easy to find stateside?

To get back to Digimon, I think the animated segment from the movie released in America would be a great intro to the first movie. Agumon was pretty scary, and the writers could add something interesting to Tai's relationship with Agumon/Greymon by having him recall that incident when he gets Agumon in the digiworld.

I would hope they manage to incorporate the Digimon Sovereigns, as they and the Devas were my favorite part of the mythology.

What were your thoughts on the Dark Masters from season 1? I myself found Myotismon more frightening. Doubly so in season 2 when he had Daemon kidnapping children.
