I don't think I've never heard someone criticise someone else for taking too much care of their body. LOLWUT? I don't think he looks any different than anyone else at his age.

And in response to the original topic of this thread - the bottom line is that the actor is good. If so, age shouldn't matter unless the role specifically calls for someone in a certain age range.

i dont expect anyone to agree with me since i saw with my own eyes SHH members complainig that 40 year old actors look to old and that normal women are fat .

all becaue of hollywood. but hey live in your fake fantasy glamour land.

I would also like to add, why is it a bad thing for males (Hollywood stars or not) to mind how they look and try and take care of themselves? Why would ANYONE like someone who's dirty looking? I understand fully well that there are cases where someone may take too much care about their appearance, but those cases aren't very frequent anyway. And vice versa; there are some people who really should put themselves together a bit more.

Maybe the people who perfer those who don't take the extra effort to look good and stay fit etc, are the people who don't do those things themselves. I don't know, all I know is taking care of yourself (appearance, clothes, etc....) is something I admire about someone. people who are pricks are going to be pricks regardless of how they dress.

Again, says who? I know tons of 40 year old's who look fantastic for their age. And these are ppl who don't work anywhere near Hollywood. Your mindframe is so black and white, I suggest you add a little color to your way of thinking. Like, really.

Most lead actors I can think of are over 30... but even so, 10-15 years ago they would be the 20ish lead actors of their day... and they were great then too.

"Old" is hardely ever used to describe something as "good". When I say I know 40 year old's who look "fantastic", it's pretty obvious I mean they look GREAT for their age and even though they don't look 20, they look YOUNGER than 40. Like early to mid 30's younger.

Younger actors have every right to be leading men or women in a film just as much as the next person. Why the hell would anyone want harrison Ford playing Sam Witwicky in Transformers? Just one of many examples. There's room for everyone in the entertainment biz.

If we're saying younger actors shouldn't have leading roles then let's get rid of all the great performances from kids (Dakota Fanning, Brad Renfro, Hayley Joel Osmond, Linda Blaire, Leonardo Dicarprio etc etc etc etc).

Again, I'll say that these coments are ignorant and too black and white. Movies have never been this way and never will be this way. There will ALWAYS be something for everyone.

I didn't realize that Ford was 39 when he did Raiders. Wow.

Honestly, he aged pretty well until the early 2000s when it hit him like a ton of bricks.

I think it's important to note that the same goes for women as much as men. I would much prefer an excellent actress like Cate Blanchett or Uma Thurman than the barely legal boring supermodel turned actress type "stars" out there.

It was already established as the unwritten rule for actresses as it is. The only time an older actress is wanted is if it's a drama, supporting role in a romantic comedy, or if the role is played as a satire or something.

It seems people are going the wong way and turning this into a 20 year old actors aren't good .
The point isn't about young vs old but rather that actors should look like their characters. That is a problem that most young actors face because they look so young. Like i said in my earlier post. Guys like Eddie Murphy and Chris Reeve were in their 20's when they got really famous but judging them on their looks , they look like 30 year old men by today's standards.

And you don't even have to have zillions of wrinkles in your face.
Take a look at DiCaprio. For years the guy wrestled with his pretty boy persona. But as the years went by he grew in his acting ability. For me personally the guy acted okay in Gangs Of New York but paled in comparison to Daniel Day Lewis. Even intense looks and scruffy beard he just didn'do it for me. However the DiCaprio NOW has grown more as an actor. If he were to do angs again with what he got now in terms of acting ability , he ould actually be able to go to toe-to-toe with DD.

Here is another example of what i think Jones meant when he said that actors need to look like they lived.
Ridley Scott Robin Hood movie was a meh movie however there was one thing that i quite enjoyed in that movie. It was the lovestory between Robin Hood ( Russel Crowe) and Maid Marion ( Cate Blanchett). Casting young actors could've easily turned it into a happy go lucky kind of scene. However both Blanchett and Crowe are over 40 and they interact in a very mature way with each other. Blanchett looked like someone who has been dealing with crap on a daily basis. Crowe also looks like someone who is fighter.

COmpare Crowe with Orlando Bloom in KIngdom of Heaven and you'll see what Jones meant. Bloom was just wrong for that movie.

Jones was obvious talking about young actors playing old mature character.

of course Sam Witvicky should be played by someone like Shia. of course Spiderman should be played by a young actor.

but characters like Robin Hood should be played by badass rough actors. like Crowe. he looks like a real man. Bale looks like a real man. Rockwell looks like a real man.
