Directors we need to see more of

People have mentioned Shane Black and I've recently read a book called Tales from the Script" which featured Black's insights in the biz. BTW, it's a very good, honest book. get it.

Anyway, Shane dissapeared from the limelight for like..a decade. And the reason for that was because of his 'out of nowhere' fame starting with Lethal Weapon. Not only was he a nobody back then, he got a lot of money for being a nobody, and that rubbed some of members of the Hollywood community the wrong way.

I think the Academy of Arts and Science rejected him when he tried to become a member and for no reason. It was because he was 'that guy'. And at parties, people would be like "Oh..it's THAT guy".

So he got depressed and became a hermit for 8 years till he found the courage to make "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang"

I'll put Shane Meadows on there, I'd love for him to have a more mainstream audience, to go alongside the critical acclaim. However, if by producing more films, it hampers the quality, I'll settle for fewer quantities, and just enjoy whatever we get.

Holy ****! I looked him up and aside from writing the Lethal Weapon movies as you already stated, I had no idea he played Hawkins in Predator.

"Hey Billy. Billy! The other day, I went up to my girlfriend, I said, "Y'know I'd like a little *****". She said, "Me too, mine's as big as a house!" :hehe:

Gotta back you guys up on the Universal Soldier Regeneration thing. One of the best DTV movies I've seen in a while, and I'm a big fan of DTV. You could see the skill of the director right there on the screen. He managed to tell a really great story with little more than an abandoned factory.

See, this really surprises me. While I still enjoy the original I skipped all of the DTV sequels since I knew they would most likely be crap.

You're as well as a good number of others have said this film was actually pretty damn good...for being DTV at least.

I might just add this to my Netflix cue but I need to know how in the hell did they bring back Lundgren?

Also, I had no idea Van Damme returned.

Nicholas Meyer - Star Trek II, Star Trek VI, Time After Time

Kimberly Peirce (Boys Don't Cry, Stop Loss) comes to mind. I know it wasn't for lack of trying, but she made only 2 movies in 10 years.

i think in a video blogcast (I think slash film) they mentioned Kimberly Peirce and how like she hasn't done a whole lot.

Howard McCain. I really hope the uphill battle of making Outlander hasn't turned him off of directing altogether.

I really can't tell you how Dolph or Van Damme are back because that's a lot of the plot right there. But the UniSol program is quite a bit more advanced than it was left in the first movie. Just so you know, I've not seen any of the sequels either for one reason or another, but I liked this movie.

Andrew Dominik
Victor Erice
Walter Lima Jr.
Bill Plympton

Thanks for the reply.

I'll add it to my cue, I had watched the original about a month ago(first time in a long time)and it was still enjoyable as an action flick with some cheese. Have to admit I still love that scene where he's beating up people in that diner while he grabs more food and starts eating some more.

I'll take a guess but my instincts tell me it involves cloning.

Sofia Coppola. How long has it been since Marie Antoinette?

Fred Dekker- Guy made one average movie, one really cool one, and one really terrible almost not watchable movie.

Gary Goddard-Masters of the Universe wasn't terrrible for a Cannon movie, wouldn't mind seeing more from him.

Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris--still haven't made a follow-up to Little Miss Sunshine
Jonathan Glazer--I haven't seen Birth, but Sexy Beast alone is enough to make me want to see more from him
Rian Johnson--take the last sentence and replace Birth with The Brothers Bloom and Sexy Beast with Brick
Spike Jonze--I'd love to see him make movies more often
Martin McDonagh--In Bruges was a great debut
Alexander Payne--it's been over five years since Sideways

Martin McDonagh
Duncan Jones (I believe he has 1 or 2 projects lined up, though, so no worries there.)
Brad Bird
Neill Blomkamp
Jake Kasdan (I loved both of his 2007 films, The TV Set and Walk Hard, and, going back to the previous decade, Zero Effect from 1998.)
John Carney

I already know the "almost not watchable movie" is Robocop 3. Now the question is, is the average movie Night of the Creeps and the really cool one The Monster Squad or is it the other way around?
