🏳️‍🌈 Discussion: LGBTQ+ Rights XVI - Part 6

Here is Chance the Rapper talking about working with R Kelly. This is how you actually apologize for something you did wrong.

Chance The Rapper Says R. Kelly Regrets Were “Taken Out of Context”

“The quote was taken out of context, but the truth is any of us who ever ignored the R. Kelly stories, or ever believed that he was being setup/attacked by the system (as black men often are) were doing so at the detriment of black women and girls,” Chance wrote. “I apologize to all the survivors for working with him and taking this long to speak out.”

You see how even as Chance believes he was taken out of context, he acknowledges that the issue was with him in the first place, and he must apologize for that? He didn't place the blame for what he did on anyone else. He isn't trying to push the blame he owns onto anyone else. He owns what he said and realizes how and why it was wrong. He even tried to make some sort of atonement by being apart of the documentary about R Kelly. Lending his voice. This while Kevin Hart cries about "haters".

His "apology" came after he refused to do it over a bizarre day where he kept on saying he had already apologized in the past multiple times, but can't seem to find where he did this.
Okay but folks continue to say that he hasn't apologized at all, yet there's a freshly minted apology less than a month ago. The reality is the "apology" or "apologies" don't matter. No one cares if he is sorry. That's why he should stop talking about it and move on.

No, people are pointing out the crappiness of his "apology" and how playing the victim negates any lame apology.

When people are talking about a lack of apology, it is two things. The first is he is making up that he has done so in the past. As CNN and Vulture have said, they have looked and are unable to find where he apparently did this in the past.

Second he spent the entire day this blew up not apologizing and how he wouldn't, then was forced to at the end of the night when he realized how much he messed up. That is what happens when you are a kid and your mother walks you over to to the neighbors to apology for some dumb **** you did. That isn't an apology. This is reinforced by how he has handled himself since, where he still insist he has apologized multiple, multiple times in the past and he doesn't need to keep doing it. Which makes his "apology" ring what it is. False.

Here is a fine example of Hart's "apology":

Hey, it's totally a sincere apology if 5 seconds later you off on tangents about how it's a shadow cabal of internet trolls out to destroy your career. Instead of acknowledging what he did, he decided to stomp his feet for a day until either he realized he had just made himself look bad or someone talked some sense into him, and then he went right back to it afterwards. It makes his apology seem like this little token gesture before he went back to how he really felt about it.

Precisely. Then he continued playing the victim on Ellen. He apologizes and then he plays the victim and like all who took offense are trolls, rinse and repeat on an endless loop. There is no consistency other than he has an incredible talent at shooting himself in the foot.

Yep. Exactly.

That's why I'm saying the apology doesn't matter. No one cares if he's sorry. He has apologized, but the focus is on where are the previous apologies he alluded to. He has apologized in a full public forum but yet no one is accepting this apology. This means the apology isn't the issue.

He can apologize 20 times a day. No one cares. He should just shut up and move on.

Everyone keeps on explaining to you and you keep on ignoring everyone instead deciding to stick to your own narrative. People would accept it if it wasn’t half-assed and inconsistent.

I'm not ignoring anyone. My point is clear. No one cares about Hart and his apology. Everyone is entitled to feel that way, but again, this is NOT about the apology. Clearly folks want more out of Hart, but whatever he gives them, it won't do. No matter what he does, there will always be folks who will still say "No its not sincere enough, its fake, he's only doing it because of _____". So he should get out of this whole discussion. He already stepped away from the Oscars so as not to be a distraction and not to further damage his career. That was the only smart thing he has done in this whole escapade. Now he needs to stop bringing it up and move on.

Yeah you are. I, Snow, and Darth have all explained it to you. Hell, I even said I would accept it if it wasn’t inconsistent. He apologized weeks ago then on Ellen reverted back to playing the victim - showing he doesn’t get it at all. Actions speak louder than words and Hart’s actions show he’s a jack ass who speaks out of his ass without meaning a word of it otherwise hey guess what? He’d be freaking CONSISTENT! He’d stop playing victim and actually - get it.

No one has to accept a half assed apology.

Are you even reading what is being written? I am going to break this down one more time in hope you don't just strawman it again, with how no one would accept the apology.

A sincere apology and acts of atonement would go a long way. For everyone? No. For plenty of people, including the many thoughtful people who are talking on this subject now and have spent years writing about it? Of course. But Hart hasn't done that and all his actions, including his "apology" show he isn't sorry. He feels hard done by. Your post is the perfect example of why he just threw out that apology after a day of ranting. So he could say he did it and then start labeling everyone talking about what he said and how he is acting as trolls. But if he was actually sorry, everything he said before and after that statement wouldn't be about how he is somehow being unfairly attacked for doing nothing.

A lip service apology is not an actual apology, and all of Hart's action show that is exactly what he was doing.

Exactly. This apology means nothing to no one. People clearly want more out of him. He needs to shut up talking and apologizing and move on. Live his life and let his actions speak for him Anything he does right now is a moot point, despite what Don Lemon thinks.

As with the James Gunn removal disgrace, this is PC theater that helps absolutely no one. Hart is a perfectly reasonable hosting candidate who (LIKE EVERY OTHER COMEDIAN EVER!) has said some stupid stuff for which he has subsequently apologized.

What's the goal here? To teach the kiddos tolerance through the vilification of an extremely popular black comedian and actor? One who would have been a strong ally if this situation had been handled appropriately? This is an extremely empty "win" for supporters of LGBTQ rights.

Wow, the guy who just equated normalizing the well known behavior of "beating the gay" out of young black men with "stupid stuff" somehow doesn't understand how this conversation around this problem helps? I am shocked.

Hart as an ally is hilarious, considering how many have pointed out that isn't his concern. If it was, he'd be out there doing the good work right now, instead of the PR campaign where he only shows concern about himself.

And I am sure this has been PC theater for all the black gay and trans men who have spoken out on this situation, and how it reflects their own lives.

So yeah, a big win for equal rights! Maybe the Academy can replace Hart with a black comedian that's never made a joke or other comment that is negative to the gay community. I hear Dr. Cosby's available.

Some of these people are lost causes, Darth. I’ve come to see nothing will get through to them. They’ll continue to use strawmans.

Good news is on twitter at least it does seem like most get it. So, that is a step in a good direction.

This is a strawman. Beyond playing down what Hart did, this ignores that Hart has made this way, way, way worse all on his own. The Academy said he could host if he simply apologized and he decided he didn't want to do that for... well can you explain why? An apology cost him absolutely nothing, but he wouldn't do it. He hasn't even been able to find his own apologizes he said, he made in the past as an excuse for why he wouldn't do it now. It's almost like he thought he did nothing wrong, until someone told him he had to apologize...

Hart should have apologized the day the tweets were revealed. I don't know why he didnt. Maybe he was concerned about losing his street cred? Anyhoo, he did apologize and the Academy should have brought him back on. Moving onto the next comedian - and their offensive tweets, jokes and comments - doesn't fix a damn thing.

If it was “street cred” that’s a damn shame. I personally wish “street cred” doesn’t revolve homophobia or at least I hope it doesn’t.

I think they should hire an actor to host it anyway and have someone write jokes and material for him. Most comedians these days seem to have told an off-color joke or two in their day.

All I know is anyone thinking about hosting better start going back and deleting their tweets right now.

I think I just figured Kevin Hart out. The little guy has a Napoleon Complex lol.

What about a PWC CPA for the hosting role? They're already on the payroll.
